Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread
Wheelchairsuperhero replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
People like to say that because that's just how it works. As in, only 2 of the last 3 teams with the best odds actually got the pick. Next year, that may very easily turn to 2 of the last 4. Another way we could say this is, "Finishing last doesn't guarantee anything." -

This is pretty much how I see it playing it out. I wouldn't be upset if Boqvist fell to us and we got him or anything, I just think he's a high risk/reward type and I feel like we already took that kind of pick with Cholowski. Meanwhile, I feel like Bouchard may be in that Charlie McAvoy lane. -

If we keep this spot and he's still available, give me Bouchard. We need a good D prospect and you can't teach the kind of poise he has. I know everyone is big on Boqvist, but I'm just not sold that his game transitions well. -
Official 2018 Off Season *Rebuild* Thread

He's definitely saying the right things (in my opinion) and the talk about Rasmussen/Cholowski is equally as good to hear. Hopefully we can walk the walk now and take some solid steps forward. -
The Leafs, always the Leafs.

He's putting up 100 point seasons on a crappy team, I think he'd be fine on a different crappy team too. -

I'm not one of those people, but I'm not so sure Nyquist wouldn't also just be benched. -

I definitely like what I've seen of Wahlstrom in the brief time I've been watching him play at the U18's. He's got that effortless looking one time release from the top of the circle/face off dot area which seems pretty rare. -

Were you counting the minutes until you could come and say that? Just curious. In my head you hit your enter key so hard it broke your keyboard. Anyway, good game by Fleury. I know some people think he's overrated, but I like him and think Vegas is lucky to have him. -

If we take a defensemen not named Rasmus Dahlin I really hope it's Evan Bouchard. The way this kid plays looks legit, huge amount of poise with the puck. -
I'm on the Caps train.

Tankathon says we have an 8.5% chance at the first pick. Not sure how accurate that particular site is, but I'm sure someone here will confirm/deny.

That actually is pretty amazing, thinking about it. Folks in the Atlantic division need to get their s*** together.

Am I right in assuming the best we can finish draft wise is 5th, with a Canucks win tonight? I only looked briefly, but right now it looks like a real shame that we squeezed a point out of that Isles game. From my point of view it was worst case scenario, I would've rather we just won the game.

I would also love to have Sutter, that's my dream. I'd be pretty thrilled with Quenneville too though. Either way I don't think either of those coaches turns us into a relevant team just yet, here's hoping for a great draft this year. -
3/29 Post Game GDT | Detroit Red Wings (6) @ Buffalo Sabres (3) | 7 PM ET

These are the wins I can still enjoy. Lots of young guys putting up points, hinting at some hope for the future, not to mention watching the Wings put up 6 g's is awesome by itself. Good stuff. -

How do you feel about this guy, kr? I don't know much about him and have done minimal research, but I do value your opinion. If we were to get him, what should we expect? -

You lost me at ESPN. -
I'm not convinced we always look like we're trying to win. Though they may have convinced themselves they are.

Amidst all of the negativity surrounding this team right now Larkin really is a bright spot for me. I love seeing the young guys take a step in the right direction, and his game has really improved this year. -

I'm honestly dreading seeing anyone else besides us get Dahlin. -

This is exactly what I was thinking. I hate all the losing, but I still enjoy watching in part due to seeing how the kids play/develop. I don't think playing 5 minutes is going to do much for Svechnikov, though I'm not too upset yet because it was only his 2nd game. I sure don't want to see Luke Witkowski playing more minutes than him for much longer though. -
I've been looking forward to a Svechnikov call up, I'm still fairly optimistic about this kid. Unfortunate about Nielsen though, he's a solid player. Is there a clip of the Backes hit anywhere? I didn't see it and didn't realize it was suspension worthy.
-
Definitely an awesome fight-- and those quotes make it sound like he's a solid kid. He may have got the worse end though, didn't seem like Witkowski was missing a lot of punches. Like he said, glad they're both alright.
