As much as I am frustrated like most of you in this forum, I am grateful for a few things. After looking at most of these trades I really feel that we had nothing to give up except for Andersson, Tatar, Nyquist, Smith and Ferraro. I am glad we didn't let any of those guys go cause honestly they were slightly equal to the players most of teams gave up to get Pominville, Gaborik..etc. I am extremely happy we didn't give up the first round pick and I think Kyle Quincey proved to Holland that he should re-think before giving up his first three picks in the draft. The asking prices for some of these players were outrageous. Jay Bouwmeester for a first was bad, Roy and Jagr was too high as well. I would of been pissed if they got one of those guys cause their on edge of their career falling apart. The one thing I truly wish holland would of done was atleast get a Steve Sullivan or even a Ryan O'Byrne. I'm tired of the "Were not looking for depth, were looking for a top SIX defenseman" well sorry Holland but THERE ARE NO TOP SIX DEFENSEMEN BECOMING UFAS THIS SUMMER! Sadly, I will not be purchasing a playoff ticket this year because I don't believe in the group of guys we have on this team. I feel like i'm watching a potential rebuilt team. Yet, were in 7th place and had an opportunity to become a stronger team going into the playoffs. We all knew this day would come and the best thing is to allow the storm to pass through and be grateful that were not a 15th seed. We couldn't sell the players we have now cause in a financial world you don't dump a team that you have on the border of making the playoffs. Not only will it create a deeper hole but the team would not make any money during the playoffs.

Oh Well...

I am really happy we didn't get Bouwmeester. Here we are complaining about how our defensemen pinch in often and cant get back on defense. Bouwmeester is a master at that. Subban was never on the market and Kenny doesn't offer RFA contracts.
-
You're insane. Sorry but no one wants Ian White.. No team trades bad players, they only trade players if they are looking to acquire or rebuild. I don't mind him here, he is not as worse then Kindl, Quincey and Colo. Heck I would get back Huskins at this point!

Interesting names Holland could really look at.. Mike Ribeiro (Wsh): © Expected to be a UFA this summer, Ribeiro and the Caps are far apart in negotiations. The team is still in the hunt however I bet they learned their lesson on not dealing Semin last year. Ribeiro is a top forward and a first line Center. Would absolutely help their Powerplay situation. Joe Corvo (Car): (D) Another expected UFA this summer. Corvo coming into the league was an offensive defenseman but now he has developed into a 2-way Defenseman with lots of veteran presence that can really help out the Defense. I can see him paired up with Ericsson or Smith. Alexander Sulzer (Buf) (D): Think Christian Ehrhoff. Alexander has been moved from NSH to Van to Buffalo. He is a 5-6 Defenseman however he's 28 years old and has lots of potential still of becoming 3-4 Defenseman. He is a big hitter with good shot and before Lindy Ruff was fired he worked with him on his defensive game. Sulzer looks much better this year and could easily for a 7th round pick. I think he could put Kindl and Quincey on their toes for active roster spot. The Red Wings has less then 9 Million in Cap space. Lets put away the Gaborik and Vanek rumors, we don't have cap space and most importantly we have players to re-sign (unfortunately). I would love to see Pominville however his game has been declining and I see the Sabres asking for a 1st round pick..No thank you.

Babcock is not the reason for this team not clicking. It's management and we don't have the right product on the ice in order to win a championship. We don't need new coaches or Goaltending. We need a 1st-2nd line forward and a stay at home defensemen.
-
It's official. They're getting some prospects in return and apparently they weren't too happy when Boston didn't include Subban. Agostino is a good player, he'll be in the lineup in two years. I haven't seen Hanowski yet however I am surprised that a Goaltender was not involved in this trade cause Feaster wanted a prospect goaltender.
-
Ian White has been playing pretty good in the last few games defensively.
-
Can't wait to see him back in the lineup.
-
Todd Richards has established a great relationship with his players and in result the team has developed chemistry. However, I feel they are the type of team of when they start losing then it starts to spread like a disease. To prevent this, you need more a veteran presence in order to keep the team together. If the CBJS are still alive for a playoff spot then expect a veteran acquisition at the deadline.

A bag of pucks would be just fine.
-
Boy did I get a kick out it when I saw 5 of our players thinking they can carry the puck up the middle and deke out 4 defenders.. (Nyquist, Miller, Smith, Franzen, Flippula) Bonus: Brunner enjoys shooting the puck wherever he chooses.... patience!

Wow. I hope you didn't shoot your TV or toss your xbox out the window. It's easier said then done. Relax.. there is a lot of drama this season for this team, we get it. However, all teams go through this but as long as we have the same ownership then we'll be fine so be grateful were not the Islanders or the Oilers. Holland will have to step it up in the draft but the unfortunate part is that we have to wait 2-3 years to see if the team can contend for the cup.
-
I agree, free agency is not the way to go in order to build a team. However, when was the last time we had a legit draft class? especially early rounds. Helm can't score, Flips is overrated, Ericsson is well Ericsson. Andersson and Tatar are question marks still, Abby and Emmerton are 4th liners and most likely wont improve, Franz is a bust, Kindl looks AHL worthy, Smith is still debatable..etc. The only best picks were Kronwall (with the help of Bowman), Howard and Fischer. Holland and his team needs to step it up this offseason in drafting because I haven't seen a core player come out of our draft classes since Kronwall.

Red Wings close to re-signing Howard

I still think McCollum is young and needs more development before we shut the door on him. Remember he's 23 and in two years we will see where he is at in growth at in development. -
Red Wings close to re-signing Howard

Howard is 28 yrs old, in his prime and already we have someone talking about replacing him down the road.. unbelievable. Mrazek has years away to be considered a starting goaltender. Gust will have one more here then let go and should be (although wish we could send him down now). Mrazek and McCollum will have a chance to audition for the backup role. -
I like Stafford, hes a good forward that could help us offensively and backchecks well. Heres the problem though, he makes $4 mill and has 2 yrs left on his contract. I don't see Holland going for a player with that length of a contract especially with Brunner due to hit pay day. But theres potential though if Holland has an idea of Franz or Bert not being with the team next year. I think it's safe to say that Holland is not shooting for a forward at the deadline. If he does then its depth not a 1st-2nd line forward. He has 8 Million in cap space and we have no one on our roster who is tradable. Leopold would be a good pick up, he's a UFA coming up and he could audition for a spot on the roster for next season. He has developed into a two-way defenseman and I think it could work for us. Not a fan of Regehr however wouldn't complain if we got him.
-
If he can play defense then sure!!!
-
Why do people think Datsyuk is not going to re-sign with the team? Has anyone heard him say that he doesnt want to re-sign? All this talk of Flippula replacing him or trading Flipp is bogus. Flippula will most likely not be with us next season especially if free agency is not deep at centers and is asking price is too much. Honestly, I wouldn't sign him if he wants 6+ a season. He has no confidence when he has the puck, he's a pass-first player and were not looking for that. Were looking for a role player (not skills wise) that can step in like Zetts and Dats. That is our biggest issue on offense.

4 Forwards that are/may be available, that help us:

You do know our biggest problem is not having a #1 Defenseman, right? -
Again, we don't need an offensive defenseman.
-
True however the Columbus Blue Jackets still have a shot at making the playoffs and potentially could face Detroit. They will seek other options but I doubt they will trade someone they just acquired.
-
I agree, Corey Perry is much better then Tatar and Andersson combined however what I am say is that you don't give away your assets for a player who is POTENTIALLY (most likely in my opinion) testing the market at the end of the season. The team is not selling, they want players who can step up now and can develop in the future (Tatar, Andersson..etc.) not to mention still have a chance at winning a championship. If he had a long-term deal in place then sure it would be a good deal but id hate to see Tatar and Andersson go.
-
That was a really stupid response from Babcock on Mlive. You're sending Tatar down because he wouldn't get enough powerplay time? Did I read that correctly? Yes, I get it Flipps is better however keep him on the 3rd line and he will develop with Tootoo and Miller. All this talk of Tatar not good defensively is true however does anyone remember how awful Zetterberg was defensively in his rookie year? What about Datsyuk? it took him more then one season to become a 2-way forward. He needs more time to develop, heck Brunner is probably the worse when it comes to forechecking. I think it's something more then "Powerplay time". It has to be a trade bait thing with Nyquist or Flippula because I cannot think of any other reason.
-
What the???? Is this a joke??? Where in the heck has babs and holland been? Do they not see that we have players like Emmerton, Cleary Abby and Eaves that are doing nothing?? Wow. They better have a good reason other then his play.
