unfortunately I fear kickazz is right. Holland is going to screw around and try to force them to sign bargain contracts because of cap constraints, probably after he goes out and signs some vet ont he wrong side of 30 to a multi-year deal.

Ericsson probably could be traded if they added a 3rd round pick and took back a middling prospect or a 4th rounder back. The question becomes should they? I don't think so, unless they actually add someone like Tavares and need the cap space. Sure, the pick you send probably won't amount to much, but it might, and there's no reason to spend an asset just to get rid of a guy. Helm, Glendening, and Abdelkader can help a team. Not many people dispute that. The problem is their bloated contracts, not them as players. Maybe, maybe not. It's your opinion that they WOULD. I think there would be better, younger options for other teams.

How many teams trade a first at the deadline anymore, especially for a guy over 30 with an expiring deal? There's no way he brings a first round pick in a trade. Being dead last doesn't guarantee anything, but it gives you the best chance at #1 and means you can't pick below 4th. Wings had another #4 overall turn out to be pretty good. It's certainly better than another pick in the 10-15 range.

Generate traffic by people moving in and out of the crease area, make the goalie move around and find a hole created by the movement. But Trollhunter knows all. He has spoken. Is the current system working? Nope. Change it. Abdelkader isn't good enough to do that. The other guys who are big/willing enough aren't suited for it either. The point of having someone there is to generate traffic and screens, there are other, better ways to do that. Doing something that doesn't work for you because that's how you've "always" done it or other people do it that way is asinine. If it doesn't work, change it.

When Howard is on and healthy, he's one of the better goalie in the league. When he's off, he's terrible, and he gets hurt every year. Put all those factors together, and he's mediocre because he can't be counted on to be your #1 all year. If someone wants to argue that his good periods make him better than mediocre, that's their opinion.

Tippet is being screwed up. Send him to juniors or play him. I've made the point that putting up points in lesser leagues doesn't always mean much. My point here was that Rasmussen isn't close to being dominant. As far as the preseason game goes, it was one game with a motivated kid against guys who's concern was getting their timing down and not getting hurt.

Are his PIM coming because he's hitting and fighting, because he's taking dumb penalties, or because he's being lazy defensively and using his stick to hook and hold? Not that Rasmussen really has a ton, 12 PIM in 10 games. It's far too early to say for sure Rasmussen was good or bad, but based on what he did in his draft year, I don't like the pick. He looked more like a David Clarkson type, and that's not what you want from the 9th overall pick when you're rebuilding and need someone who can be an elite player. 12 points in 10 games isn't really fantastic for a guy who was drafted that high and went back to juniors, either. I'm glad he has some assists, that's encouraging, but it's not dominating either. 75 players have more points. Most have played more games, but not that many. Tyler Steenbergen is leading the WHL with 35 points in 13 games. Four other players are at 30 or better. He's 4th on his team, again with fewer games, but Jordan Topping has a better PPG average. Saying he's outperforming a guy who hasn't played in Vilardi so that means he's better is ridiculous. Tippet vs. Rasmussen: Tippet is in the NHL, Rasmussen is in the WHL. Comparing their stats isn't even apples and oranges, it's apples and rocks.

Helm, Glendening, and the rest of the PKere are going to play more in games with more penalties. Abdelkader should be nowhere near a PP unit though. Bowman usually had a center and a wing who more or less stuck together, and the 3rd guy would move around. Bowman was also one of, if not the best, coaches in NHL history. Blashill is clueless.
