After 73 games: Datsyuk has played 39 games. Zetterberg has played 45 games. Both have been out at the same time for a big chunk of time. Every player projected to be even a semi-regular center has missed at least 12 games, Andersson is the only one who has played more than 45. Miller, Quincey, and Kronwall are the only players to have played 70 or more games. Tatar and Lashoff, along with the three above, are the only players to have missed fewer than 10 games. Nyquist and Tatar are the two leading goal scorers. They have dressed 30 skaters and have had 11 rookies dress. If you had been told those facts at the beginning of the year, haw many games out of the playoffs would you think they'd be right now? I would have figured close to the bottom of the division. Instead, if the season ended today they would be in the playoffs. I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty proud of what this team has accomplished, even if it's not what past teams have been able to do.

I just think it helps to see everything that happened to this team put down together so people can see why the team is barely hanging onto the last playoff spot. I've seen a lot of comments at various places about how far the team has fallen and the management and coaches are idiots, the team us a disaster, etc. like this was the team they wanted to have all year.

Anything including giving him a 3 year deal?

Now you're just arguing for the sake of arguing.

My GF had neighbors like that. Fortunately her apartment complex didn't put up with it very long. 3rd time they had the police there for a noise complaint, the kids were gone. I understand having fun, but the kid needs to grow up a bit or get a nice house in the suburbs.

Why would you subtract Nyquist? The only reason he was in GR as long as he was is because Holland overestimated his ability to trade someone. And yes, they absolutely would be better with Datsyuk or Zetterberg over Sheahan.
-
Not entirely,. but when you're missing your 2 best forwards who are also 2 of the best defensive forwards in the NHL, you're not going to hold leads as well as you would with them. The biggest issue with all the injuries though is the lack of continuity. It's hard to develop any consistency when you don't know who you're going to have in the lineup on any given night. Add in the inconsistent nature of younger guys in general and you have the recipe for a lot of blown leads.

I would love a big goal scoring power forward, but not if he was a cheap shotting dirtbag like Neal.

Is the Real Brendan Smith Finally Starting the Show Up?

If he really is worried about his partner when not paired with Kronwall, that's an issue that needs to be addressed, not bandaged by keeping him with Kronwall. -
Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

A few points. First, like I said earlier the, if I was in Poile's place I would have been asking for Tatar, Nyquist, or Jurco before Jarnkrok. Second, Jarnkrok is a prospect. Tell me about how good he is in a couple seasons. Third, Hakan Andersson is not the God he gets credited as. He misses on a lot of guys too, and he's not the only European scout they have. He's in charge of them but he's not working alone. -
Lots of players have been called up before they had to be. Most of the ones who weren't have either not developed very far, or they had big questions about their games that they needed time to answer. Fischer, Kronwall, Dekeyser, Filppula, Hudler all spent less than the max time in GR, just of the top of my head. Tatar and Nyquist both needed time to get stronger and Tatar needed time to mature as a player. Neither of them really set the world on fire last year, they were just solid for rookie wingers. Nyquist was told he needs to shoot more, he's taken that to heart and bam, he's having a breakout year. Tatar has been good for a guy in his first full year, but he's going to end up around 32 or 33 points probably. He's shown flashes of brilliance, but he's also had several games where he hasn't been a factor on score sheet.
-
He passed the protocol. He probably was concussed, but it was minor enough to where he could get back out there. That's not to say he couldn't develop worsening symptoms later though.
-
I was going to say this. Glendening's line has been doing a hell of a job as a shut down defensive center, that adds a lot of value. If they can keep the other team's top scorers off the score sheet for the most part, Nyquist and Tatar can victimize the other team's less able lines and defensemen.

I have a feeling Nyquist is slated for 2nd or 1st line duties next year. He might have more goals this year than Datsyuk had in his first 2 years. He only has 6 fewer points than Hank did his first year in a lot fewer games. -
Where I come from, what Quincey did was good defense, not interference. Too many rules are ruining the game.

$5k each. Neal needed more. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/03/detroit_red_wings_david_legwan.html

You also get tickled for spearing a guy in the junk. Both should probably have gotten a game off.
-
He's barely played this year and hasn't been able to stay on the ice when he has tried to play. They're not even sure he's going yet.

Kahn has Smith on D with Kronwall, 4th line skated Emmerton and Helm with Ferraro or Pulk.

Smith is far better offensively. He also tries to push the play more which is where the turnovers come from, not inaccurate passes. -
James Neal Cross-Check to Glendening's Head [GIF] - Suspension?

It's the NHL. No injury, no suspension. -
