Mrazek traded to Philly for Conditional 3rd and 4th Picks
DickieDunn replied to hankzet40's topic in General
http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2018/02/ken_holland_red_wings_werent_g.html#incart_river_index "(Mrazek) is not the goalie I'm keeping because we have to qualify him at $4 million this summer," Holland said. "All I can do is watch games and makes assessments based upon what I see." Holland said he hasn't decided if Jared Coreau, who was recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins to back-up Howard, will remain with the Red Wings the rest of the season. He said Coreau has played well in the AHL and earned the opportunity. But he also might be better off playing regularly with the Griffins than watching games in Detroit. Holland didn't rule out acquiring a back-up goalie before the deadline. He said if Coreau isn't sent down before Monday, he'll likely remain here since teams are allowed only four recalls following the deadline, except in the case of injuries. -

I sincerely hope Holland isn't the one spending that money or we're likely to fill that cap space with more middling players making $500k more than they should. -

No, nothing is nothing. A 4th round pick is still a pick. Mrazek will then lose 19 of his first 20 starts -
what's your point?

If Mrazek hadn't spent most of the last two years looking like an AHL goalie he wouldn't have had to worry about it. I'm guessing this means they had no intention of qualifying him this summer, so they got at least a 4th for a guy they were going to lose for nothing later, and potentially quite a bit more. 4th (or more) > nothing, especially when there isn't much of a market for goalies. Holland did a good job. -
Yzerman has zero reason to come to Detroit. Give it up

Darren Helm isn't a bad player. Darren Helm isn't worth his contract. One or two guys making $500k too much isn't a killer. 10-12 guys making $500k too much is. So if you can move any of those guys, you do it. I hope the Bruins take Helm and Babs gets his man crush back and the Leafs take Glendogmillionaire. Replace both with guys making reasonable salaries, and you're in better shape.

I look at results. He made a name by finding a couple guys who turned out better than most people thought they were going to be over a decade ago. Since then he hasn't done any better than most scouts.
-
I'm torn on Mrazek. It all depends on if you think his recent play is what you're going to see going forward. If so, I think qualifying him is a no-brainer and you try to move Howard. If not, you try to move him and let him walk if you can't, draft a couple goalies this year or trade for a good prospect, and use stop gaps like Howard until a rookie is ready.

The best candidate after a series of interviews. If Holland stays in the organization I'd make sure it would be someone who wouldn't be beholden to him and feel pressured to take advice as an order. Of course I'd also tell Holland if he interfered he'd be out on his ass in a hurry.
-
I don't know, I don't work in the NHL so I don't know what scouts may or may not be available.
-
If he's the best candidate and will tell Holland to GTFO and STFU if he tries to interfere, great. If either of those are untrue, get someone else.
-
Only the ones not under contract, and really, he can take Andersson. Guy made some good finds, but his rep is built on stuff he did well over a decade ago.
-
If it makes me think those trades are possible, sure. Um, what? Not until the offseason. Hence the name DEADLINE

YUUUUUUUUUUUUP. In another 2 years the same people drooling over him will say he sucks, he's worthless, trade him for a bag of pucks. It happens over and over. Prospect has an attribute that makes him stand out somehow, does well in GR, and has a decent debut, and some people start insisting he's going to be a star, especially if he's from Michigan. Then he turns into a 2nd pair D/2nd line forward, and he's terrible because he's not as good as the people hyping him up previously thought he'd be.

Red Wings sign D Trevor Daley to 3 year, 3.166m/yr contract, includes NTC/Modified NTC.
DickieDunn replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
That doesn't mean he's very good. He's solid, not spectacular, hasn't gotten a lot of opportunity to be in an offensive role. The reason I didn't like the signing wasn't him specifically, I thought, and still think, the team needs to be focusing on younger players instead. -
No. There is no reason not to trade him.
-
Because they're entirely different positions, with entirely different ways of thinking and entirely different skill sets. It's the same reason baseball teams don't take an outfielder with a cannon for an arm and make him a pitcher, or an NFL team doesn't use an 0-lineman as a d-lineman. Guys like Witkowski are a rarity, and generally don't really do either very well.

Genius coach understands that the best way to protect a lead is to stop playing hockey. I wouldn't expect YOU PEOPLE to understand.

If Holland is still in charge at the draft, we're F@#$ed

Weren't there a couple people here trying to say Smith was a top 4 D fairly recently?

2 PPG with that much time is terrible. Slightly less terrible than the other 2 doesn't make it good.
