Kane is better offensively, Toews is the more complete player.

NHL defenses close the gap quicker than AHL defenses, and NHL goalies close holes that AHL goalies leave wide open. That's why guys can score a ton in te minors and do nothing in the NHL. It's like college football players. Tim Tebow dominated at Florida when he was bigger and faster than college linebackers. He got to the pros and they were all as big as him or bigger and faster and he was terrible.

Detroit got lucky with Datsyuk. Nobody believed he'd be close to this good, not even the scouts. He was projected as a potential second line center, iirc his biggest issues were strength and skating. He worked hard and improved both and turned out to be a star. He could have jast as easily never seen a second of ice te in North America. The other difference between them and now is that teams are all scouting Europe a lot heavier and guys like that are being taken earlier.

Development is important, but you're not going to develop Corey Emmerton into Jonathan Tavares no matter how well your organization takes care of the prospects. To get a player like that you need to either draft high or get lucky and have a player exceed expectations. There's a reason most of the Cup winners the last 25 years were built around guys who were top 5 picks.

You're more likely to get an elite player in the first 5 picks than anywhere else, especially a forward.

Last year it was Pulk who was a legit scorer and would be a 30 goal guy. This year it's Frk. Both aren't quick enough to get open against NHL defenses.

Nyquist is too soft and Tatar thinks he's a lot better than he is. The rest of them are either kids who aren't progressing or older guys who are declined

XO is what he is, a smart player who doesn't excel at anything but doesn't have any real glaring weakness. He should be a decent #4 when it's all said and done.

Man that was a weird game by today's standards. All that offense, I wasn't sure what to think. Hopefully they tighten things up defensively for the next game. -
He's not overly big, he's not great defensively, and he doesn't have a high skill level. There is zero evidence that he can even be a 7th defenseman in the NHL. At least Nestrasil had a good enough camp to make the Wings before crapping the bed and getting waived. Jensen hasn't even done that much, as little as it is. So many people act like he's some future stud, he just needs a shot. The fact that he's passed Sproul has a lot more to do with Sproul than it does Jensen.
