Yeah ever since he spurned the Nordiques after they drafted him first overall he's been labelled as a spoiled self entitled douchebag. I don't recall that happening any other time. Crosby, Ovechkin, Fleury, Kane, Tavares, etc. were all happy to play for the teams they were drafted by even though they sucked at the time. Lindros did have a great career though, no denying that. The package the Nords got from Philly for him also turned them into an instant playoff team/future cup winner.

Exactly. Holland seems to think he is a 1A calibre defenceman though. Even when he signed Green he said he wanted him on the second pairing with DeKeyser behind Kronwall/Ericsson. Goes to show how much he overrates the defence.

It's pretty bad when 8 years later well into their 40's they'd still be the top two dmen on this team. I know you just can't plan for the retirement of guys like that, but Holland didn't even seem to try. He waited until it was about to happen and tried to throw money at Suter and overvalued Kronwall. I think that's why Kronwall has declined sooner than he should have..he had too much placed on his shoulders at once and got burnt out.

I wonder if it burns Illitch when he sees Nill as GM of a top team in Dallas, or Yzerman rolling along nicely in Tampa just coming off an Eastern Conference title, and knowing he could have had either as his GM right now?

Ya, even in years when they were on top of the league, they'd still blow games(and playoff series-LA, Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton...) to lesser teams. Who could forget the "Stunner at Staples" in 2001 when they lost in 6 to LA, or getting swept by Anaheim in 2003 both in the first round.

Perfectly summed up right there. I hope Illitch shows Kenny the door soon if things don't start changing in some way. Commit to a rebuild. Do some housecleaning and trade overripe prospects for picks. If top UFAs don't want to come here, don't just sign garbage or give huge contracts to guys who don't deserve it just because you have the cap space. No more pity contracts for guys like Cleary..even if he isn't on the Wings roster..wtf is the point? Does he think owners like giving away money? Right now the roster CAN win games against top teams..we've all seen it..But they can't win consistantly with how things are setup. Vets are really showing age, mid level guys aren't picking up the slack..young guys can't carry the team. There HAS to be some moves made in the offseason..whether to get better, or to start a rebuild..but commit to one of the other. Treading water isn't working. If Kenny can't fix things..then bring in new blood. In the league nowadays, you gotta have some balls and take some chances..Kenny has shown he will always play it safe, and it does not work. Yeah, I didn't know if they were doing worse than Edmonton or not...

Yeah, i just watched the highlights..was a nice set up for sure. I dunno what people expected out of Richards. They obv weren't getting the 90+ point guy that he was in Dallas, but he's still a solid veteran player with 2 cups, one he just won last season, and has been worth his $3 million. He'll prove valuable in the playoffs as well.

Hopefully not as expensive as what the nosebleeds at ACC sell for on Stubhub. They go for $200 each easy because the ACC is sold out years in advance. This won't be played there though, so they should be reasonable until Ticketmaster sells out, then people will start gouging for them. Just gotta be ready when they go on sale and grab what you can get.
