They were, but the fact still remains Osgood got the job done in '08 when Hasek could'nt. That says something about the guy.

So I guess Joseph was a horrible goalie because he did'nt win anything on the 5 or so teams he played for? He was in net on a great Wings team in 2003 when they were swept first round by the underdog Ducks. A lot of people would consider him in the top 4 goalies of his era along with Hasek, Roy, and Brodeur. As for never needing a superstar goalie to win a cup..they sure needed Hasek in 2002, even with one of the greatest teams ever assembled in front of him.

Yeah, NYI and St. Louis were real all star teams when he played there. Still solid numbers, first year in NYI they made the playoffs for the first time in years. Saved the Wings asses during the 2008 cup run as well, and was instrumental in them making the Finals the following year. Some people will just never give the guy the credit he deserves because he played on some great Wings teams. Oh well.

No comparison made at all. Osgood just deserves it before him in my opinion.. A player's jersey should'nt be retired solely based on his playing ability and career numbers, but his dedication to the team as well. Fedorov was ready to jump ship early as 1997. Rejected a huge cash offer to stay in 2003. Osgood would have stayed a Wing his entire career if he could have, but I understand Hasek and Cujo and the unfortunate Legace experiment left no room for him. But he came back when offered. won his third cup, and nearly a fourth. Guy loved Detroit. Still loves Detroit. Pretty damn good career numbers too. Fedorov became a Duck and faded away.

Absolutely. One of the main reasons why he left. He wanted to be "the guy". I recall some media at the time pumping him up as the best player in the world, married to a hot young Anna K, etc. I'm sure alot of that went to his head, which was already pretty swelled. Too bad leaving never worked out for him, because as you mentioned, his play slipped dramatically once he left Detroit.

It does. Rinne and Dubnyk are Vezina finalists too..that's why I found it funny how Crawford and Bishop are the goalies that emerge out of all that company. Works both ways I guess, depending how you look at it.

Babs is lucky to have three finals appearances. He pretty much rode a hot goalie to the finals in '03. Giggy was the last player on the losing side since to win the Smythe I believe. They were'nt expected to contend(much less only lose 6 games total) like in many of his years with the Wings.

True, but Miller's stay was very short and forgettable. First round exit after making the trade that many thought might win them the cup.

Osgood played well in St. Louis. Then he was let go for Lalime, who was supposedly an upgrade. lol
