  1. Not disputing that he's had a great career. He's more than deserving of having his number retired. I just think Osgood should go up first. The guy has to be the most underappreciated goaltender in Wings history. Is it because he wasn't flashy and wasn't in the top 5 of his era? Because all he did was stay quiet and win games? Cause of his old school bucket he refused to change? lol 401 reg season wins, 50 shutouts and a 2.49 GAA. 74 playoff wins, 15 shutouts and a 2.09 GAA. Three Cups, two Jennings, would have added a Smythe had they finished off the Pens in '09. Raise the damn banner already. HUGE part of Detroit's success in the contending years. Some were saying the 2008 team was one of the most dominant championship teams of the 2000's. Without Osgood, that Cup doesn't happen.

GDT: Loser point and oh ya, Howard is garbage

He's a solid regular season goalie with tendency for breakdowns. Playoffs though, write off. 21-26 in 47 career games with 3 shutouts. Started 5 playoff games since 2014, record of 1-4. Didn't even start one playoff game in 2015, and s*** the bed hard in 2016, again benched after only two games for you know who, who is tied in playoff shutouts with Howard after only 10 career playoff games under his belt. "All Star" Jimmy Howard. Only sometimes, and he expires in early April. Give Kenny a 2nd rounder for him!

Horrible game by Bobrovsky for sure. And he had to have it against the Wings. Jimmy getting his first shutout since late October of 2016 at this point in the season too. Great timing. haha

Brenden Smith placed on waivers ON HIS BDAY. LOL

Yeah, I read the Flyers GDTs sometimes, and Mrazek isn't the main topic of conversation or anything. Andrew MacDonald playing 20+ minutes a game is more of a concern. Improper useage of the younger guys too, like you said. Frustrated fanbase over there, understandably. No Cups since Bernie Parent roamed the crease. They aren't a contender yet, but they will be soon enough. Lots of great young players on the team and in the system.
  5. Yep, it was a s***ty moment, that's for sure. I happened to be visiting a friend in Calgary during the playoffs that year, so that made it even worse. Was a fun couple months there though, that city was pumpin! That loss was far from Joseph's fault, same as the Anaheim series the year before. He gave the team more than enough to win. I never blamed him like many others. The whole Joseph/Hasek situation was a major s***show on Holland's part. Joseph was already the starter for a year, then Hasek suddenly decides he's coming out of retirement. I don't blame Kenny for picking up the option to sign him before he became a UFA, but it should have been an immediate sign and trade kinda deal. Could have gotten quite a package for Hasek back then. But no, he keeps them both in the same dressing room until it turns toxic and Joseph gets put on the trade block. No takers, so he's waived and plays in ******* GR. Ultimate insult. Then Hasek has a season ender of an injury, and all is supposed to be forgiven cause Joseph is now needed. I'll bet he still despises Ken Holland to this day for all that crap. Hasek actually returned the $8 million he signed for that season after his injury, that was a surprise. Never saw that before.

Brenden Smith placed on waivers ON HIS BDAY. LOL

Didn't say his numbers were great, but he did what was needed, keep the playoffs possible. He was brought in as a stop-gap until Elliott or Neuvirth (who Mrazek had to bail out after he lasted 1.5 periods in his "return") were ready, so Lyon wasn't forced into the starting role. They didn't want to just throw the pressure onto him at that point, which was smart with a goalie who is part of your future. Had Mrazek continued how he started off there, he might have earned himself a contract. But he didn't. Opportunity there for the taking and all. Oh well, his problem. I am still curious to see how he does in playoffs though, if they do make it. He's only played ten playoff games, but has something like a 1.84 GAA in them. Philly fans were pretty damn happy when he first got there. Lots of Mrazek love. Now they aren't and wish they didn't have him. s***ty buzz, maybe they should take it up with Hextall.

Brenden Smith placed on waivers ON HIS BDAY. LOL

But Philly didn't give up a 2nd and a 3rd straight up for Mrazek, sign him to a four year deal at $4 million per, and turn around and waive him in the first season of it. The stupidity of the Rangers on this one can't be matched. Without Mrazek, as off and on as he's been, the Flyers wouldn't be holding a wild card spot still. He's paid off what they gave up at least. They lost some of that 6 point cushion they had tonight though. Now they have to gain three points in their last two games, or Florida has to lose three points in their last three games, two of them against Boston, who will be going hard to try to keep the division lead. That 3rd rounder SHOULD come back, but it's getting tight.
  8. The Wings were also a great team with a great D and one of the top 5 goalies in the league. The Flames won in 6 games on an OT goal where Joseph uncharacteristically got caught a bit (almost made it over in time though, milliseconds), and big Hatcher with his big contract was right there with Gelinas when he got the puck (I think thats who scored) and should have had him covered but he did absolutely nothing, just stood there and watched. It wasn't as if it was an easy series for Calgary, it honestly could have gone either way. They did physically punish the Wings though, and Kipper was massive in that entire run after getting picked up from SJ, where he was their third stringer. No one expected that kind of performance out of him. Those Dave Lewis years were some dark times in the playoffs. Swept in the first round by the Ducks in '03, lost in 6 in the second round to Calgary in '04. Add that to the loss in 6 to in the first round to Edmonton in '06 under Babs. All three after dominant regular seasons.
  9. Sorta. Agree with all of it, but #30 is just as deserving. The right thing to do would be to put Ozzie's up before Z retires IMO. Not like they've retired many goalies numbers. Or defencemen for that matter.

GDT: Loser point and oh ya, Howard is garbage

Yeah, it's the best time to start picking up points in each game for sure. My dad was talking to me about this the other day watching the game, getting pissed off, saying wtf are they doing? Told him they just like shooting themselves in the foot. They should honestly just be floating out there now, playing Coreau until the last game. Why does Howard even need to play? Blash worried about him getting rusty? Give him the final games off.

Sedin Twins Calling it a Career After Season

Best Swedish goalie? Gotta be Lundqvist stats wise. No one comes close. Too bad we never got to see Lindbergh play a full career. Numbers aren't top notch, but they're great for his era. Still sits 7th all time among all Swedish goalies 32 years after his death. R.I.P.

GDT: Loser point and oh ya, Howard is garbage

Yeah i’ll be happy when he’s finally gone as well. He probably could have been traded at the deadline, but Holland thinks he’s worth a 2nd rounder. Of course no ones paying that for an 8 year vet that’s accomplished nothing in his career except run of the mill regular season stats.
  13. chaps80

GDT: Loser point and oh ya, Howard is garbage

It’s never Howard’s fault, even when he plays like s***, been like that for years. Somehow it’s aleays justified because he’s been “so great” in the past. All the way from Holland to Blash to their media puppet HSJ, down to some fans. Some thing he’s this big valuable trade asset next season at the deadline. To who and for what reason? The playoffs make Jimmy s*** his pants. He’s no good to anyone past the regular season.
  14. chaps80

Holland and Blashill expected to return

That’s exactly what I was saying. Howard is it right now. The rest either can’t hack it or aren’t near ready for the NHL. So they need to sign a UFA backup for Howard, and leave Coreau in GR for good. Or get rid of him, whatever. Machovsky should be the first call up next season.

Sedin Twins Calling it a Career After Season

Yep, they always stuck me as weird those Sedins. What was even weirder is how Burke was able to snag them both in the top end of the same draft. He had to find a way, cause yeah, they just couldn’t play on separate teams. Refused to. That’s creepy enough in itself that they couldn’t be their own men and go separate ways if need be.

Sedin Twins Calling it a Career After Season

Exactly. And Datsyuk didn’t give much warning either. Maybe something could have been done sooner that wouldn’t have left a team at the cap to dump 7+ million in salary over an off-season. Pure dick move, lost a lot of my respect for him. When Z is ready to call it quits, I figure management will know before that particular season even begins that he’s planning on retiring and going home afterwards. Just seems like his style, giving advance notice so whatever the team needs to do to prepare for his absence, they have plenty of time to plan it. His salary is cut in half next season, then drops to just $1 million per for two because of the contract being so front loaded (although his cap hit remains the same for the duration). I wouldn’t be surprised if next season will be his last. Then raise the banner.

Holland and Blashill expected to return

It’s pretty thin. Cut out Howard, Coreau, McCollum from that list to start. Machovsky would be next in line, and he is a solid goalie, but I thought I read something about him being a bit pissed off being stuck in Toledo and might just head back home if things don’t change (they have changed now as he’s in GR for good i’m sure). Can’t find anything on it though, so I guess it was someone else. Larsson is very promising as well, great numbers this season. After that it drops off. Petruzzelli and Fulcher are a ways away, and if they bust out, there’s gotta be someone else in the pipeline. Should draft a goalie every year, whatever the round you feel like taking one at, because they’re so unpredictable (see Mrazek and Coreau). I wouldn’t go using a 1-3 rounder, or maybe not even a 4th on one, but taking one to add to the depth chart is always a good idea. I figure for next season, the team signs a cheap UFA to backup Howard, sends Coreau back to GR, lets McCollum walk, and Machovsky backs up Coreau, or wise versa. After that, who knows. D is a bigger priority though I will agree.

Holland and Blashill expected to return

Be nice if we could get him before the draft, but obv not. This is a huge draft coming up for the Wings future, and I truly worry about Holland making the best picks possible. Obv if they end up picking first overall, Dahlin is a no brainer. He couldn't mess that up. But other than that, you never know wtf he's thinking. All I know is D and goaltending should be stocked up as much as possible. Goalie depth in the org is very thin right now, especially. Signed: Jimmy Howard (G) Jared Coreau (G) Tom McCollum (G) Matej Machovsky (G) Kaden Fulcher (G) Unsigned: Joren van Pottelberghe (G) Filip Larsson (G) Keith Petruzzelli (G) Chase Perry (G) After Howard, who is a viable NHL option currently? Coreau and McCollum are career minor leaguers. Machovsky is solid, but is he even sticking around? Larsson and Petruzzelli are the best prospects after that. Fulcher and VP are maybes. Perry sucks.

Should the Wings go after Quenneville if he is let go? https://news.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/rumor-arguably-the-nhl-s-best-coach-will-be-a-free-agent-this-summer?ref=jo "Will this be Joel Quenneville's last week as the head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks organization?" Needless to say this is the type of question that could cause a great deal of controversy and that is exactly what it did when the answers began to pour out from the panelists. First up was former NHL player David Poulin. "Definitely not should, but I think it will be," said Poulin. "He's has such a great run and he's won his three cups and it may be of his choice... that he knows he's gotten out of these guys what he could." "He's pulled everything he could of out of his trick bag and he's head a great run as a coach. But I think it's a defined term job and that term may be up." Up next was another former National Hockey League player in Jeff O'Neil. "I think it's his last week and he should want it that way," began O'Neil. "He's one of the few coaches in the National Hockey League that a general manager may fire their current coach to get Joel Quenneville into the situation. It's been a great run in Chicago but it's probably time to switch it up and go somewhere else." Last and definitely not least was TSN insider Bob McKenzie. While the answers from the first two could potentially have been dismissed as pure speculation, and while McKenzie himself is almost certainly speculating here, the message takes on a different tone when someone of McKenzie's stature makes this kind of a statement. "I'll make it unanimous, I hope I'm wrong but it kind of feels like the last week. You feel like something has got to give in Chicago, I'm not sure that it should be the coach or that the coach would necessarily make that big of a difference. But nevertheless you feel like something has got to happen there." McKenzie's comments are particular interesting because they appear to hint at the fact that perhaps it should be someone else who heads out the door in Chicago. Now that may or may not have been what McKenzie was implying here but if it indeed was what he was trying to say I would be inclined to agree. It's no secret that Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman and Quenneville have butted heads on a number of occasions, some have even suggested that the two men genuinely despise one another, and that seems to have been amplified in a big way this season. Quenneville expressed displeasure at the trade of veteran defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson and the trade of Artemi Panarin for Brandon Saad is also rumored to have rubbed members of the Blackhawks locker room the wrong way.
  20. Yep. Need three points in their final three games to make the playoffs. Or three missed points by Florida in their last four games. Florida has Nashville, Boston twice, and Buffalo. Philly has NYI, Carolina, and NYR. That third rounder should be safe, but guess you never know...

Holland and Blashill expected to return

Yep. This thread dissapoints. Some of you are actually good with Holland staying on another 3-4 years? Even if you don’t think there’s anyone better available, it’s not a reason to hang onto him He’s had 20! years as GM, time for new blood. And Blash? He’s had enough time to show he’s way in over his head in the NHL. Leafs/Wings games are always entertaining because I get to see Babcock school him hard. He’s 5 steps behind before the anthem starts.

Holland and Blashill expected to return

LOL Nice poke check Jones. Hasek wouldn’t have even let him get a shot off.
  23. That too. But the 4th moving up to a 3rd was a given all along. Quite a few picks coming up in the next couple drafts. Kenny making them scares me. Having Kenny around at all scares me.
  24. Well put. Mrazek is in the past in Detroit now. He’s in Philly, doing what he did here, playing excellent and horrible seemingly depending on what he feels like doing that day when he gets up. Played well recently after Neuvirth yanked his groin stopping a shot half a game into his return, and was excellent again today against Boston. He’ll Probly take a game or two off then play like he cares again in the playoffs. At least he’s heading to the playoffs, good for him. I don’t recall ever hearing of any mental issues during his junior/minor league career though. By all accounts he was calm and confident. I saw him play a few times in the OHL, didn’t seem to struggle. He was only in Toledo for a short period before his callup to GR, where he stayed put.
  25. Things don’t look good in Chicago with Crawford’s head injury. He might be forced to retire. Could ship Jimmy there for that beer league dude.
