  1. God speed Mraz. This is a joke, but Holland does what Holland does. I’ll be keeping a close eye on his play in Philly to see if he continues playing well. This could be a horrible trade if he does. -The Red Wings will receive, at minimum, Philly's fourth-round pick this year. If Mrazek wins five games with the Flyers and the team reaches the playoffs, the fourth-rounder becomes a third-rounder. If Mrazek wins six playoff games and Philly reaches the conference finals, the third-rounder becomes a second-rounder.- -If Philadelphia re-signs Mrazek after the season, Detroit will receive an additional third-round pick in 2019.- -The Red Wings retained 50 percent of Mrazek's remaining salary.- HAHAHAHA fraud GM took this trade dry. No lube. A fourth that turns into a third if he wins 5 games and the team makes the playoffs? Horrid. The third to second hinging on Conference Finals is a write off, cause Philly won’t make it that far. If they resign him on the one year qualifier, does Holland still get the crappy third, or is that only if it’s a longer term deal? And on top of this trash, he retained salary. Stupid trade by a very stupid man. Now he’s gotta ride Jimmy, who’s play has dropped off considerably, and bring up Coreau, who is a huge question mark. What If Howard tweaks a knee again? No point in picking up a backup goalie by the deadline when you just traded a goalie. Spending more assets needlessly. Just tank this s*** season and be done with it.

Some good news for Holland haters

His “loyalty” is what got this team in the cap mess it’s currently in. “complacency” is more like it. Too comfy in the GM chair. Illitch needs to go kick the back of that chair and tell him to gtfo.

Agreed, such a dumb move if he makes it. Well, looks like he is making it if Hextall wants it to happen. Pretty bad when I have to hope another GM saves us from our own. Its OK though, every time Howard’s game falls off and he has an injury, big Jared will save us.

Hmm. Pretty sure that rumour was going around. Maybe there wasn’t truth to it. Dont blame him for re-upping with Tampa.

Fraud GM. When the money dried up, so did his ability to manage the team. Coasted for awhile on what he had left from the free spending days. Now he’s screwed.

Well where did that big rumour that he denied Holland a meeting, basically saying I’m not interested, come from? Was it before he met with Yzerman? He did meet with Lou in Toronto, no?

Fair enough. Green is gone. Or I sure hope he is. Mrazek is a maybe. I could see one of Gus and Tatar traded, but not both. But I don’t think either will be. It sucks that Holland is forced to consider guys like Tatar expendable when they shouldn’t be because of all the dead weight contracts he’s handed out that can’t be moved. I just gotta shake my head and hope this is his goodbye season and whoever takes over can figure out his mess.

Sad but true. Holland is stuck with those for good. Nielson’s deal is a perfect example of Holland simply throwing money at a player who isn’t worth it just to try to fill a perceived “need”. Nielson is a playmaker. There was too many of those already. But he is good in the shootout.

    Can the Wings afford both?

    Rumors Thread

Vegas can afford him. New team leading the West in their first season. Lots of excitement there over it. With the team they already have there, i’d think it would be an attractive spot for him. He would make them pretty deadly. They have 5 players on expiring contracts. Neal and Perron will probably be re-signed. Grabovski, Stoner, and Sbisa are all going to be gone. They have to re-sign a few key RFAs like Karlsson, Theodore, and Miller who will be getting raises. Few other RFAs who won’t get raises. Currently almost $8 million in cap space. Definitely fit Tavares in.

    Rumors Thread

It’s too bad Holland can’t think of another way to clear more cap. Why isn’t he offering up more players for half ass returns? Nielson for a third anyone? Helm for a fourth? Abby for a fifth and salary retention? Come on Kenny, work those phones!!

    Rumors Thread

Maybe. But a guy who makes millions of dollars a year can easily afford to hop on a plane from NY if he wants to go see family in Southern Ontario. Not a huge distance. I think it would have to be more than that.

    Rumors Thread

Lehner is only day to day. Ongoing discussions are just discussions. I’m sure he’s in discussions with all teams that have goalies available. Hextall stated he wants to try all options within the team first. He finds out about Neuvirth Monday. Going with Tokarski /Lyon for now. Trade is a last resort. But I guess you never know. One could happen sooner than deadline day.

    Rumors Thread

Suter agreed to come here when the Wings were still a good playoff bound team. Would he do it now? Stamkos was rumoured to possibly sign with Detroit? Then why didn’t Kenny even get a courtesy meeting? Didn’t seem like he was thinking of Detroit as an option. Gotta take all insider reports with some scepticism, even if it is McKenzie. I still fail to see exactly what would attract Tavares to Detroit. I can’t think of anything besides Kenny HEAVILY overpaying.

    Rumors Thread

If Neuvirth is out for awhile, seems like Tokarski will get a shot at taking over until they have to make a deadline decision. They may stick with him, or may make a move. Looks like they hope not to.
  16. chaps80

    Rumors Thread

Flyers will know the nature of Neuvirth’s status on Monday. Lyon staying up and Tokarski coming up in meantime. So no quick deals for outside help. If Hextall does have to hit the trade market (although he’s not fond of the idea), besides Mrazek, they have Lehner(day to day injury currently), Johnson, Niemi, Raanta, and Pickard as potential targets. The available goalie market is pretty much all theirs to choose from right now with no other teams currently in need of help. https://www.nhl.com/news/michal-neuvirth-injury-puts-flyers-goalie-situation-in-limbo/c-296109396

Valid point, but Tavares is a top player in the league. He’ll have plenty of options. Including staying put, which I believe he wants to do as long as there’s a solid plan to get the team to reach the next level and contend for a Cup within a reasonable time frame. Cant compare him to Nielson, Green, Weiss , or Alfie. Maybe Alfie was at his level in his prime, but the Wings got him right before he retired. The rest, not even close. Plus, they’re UFA rankings were due to poor UFA pools.
  18. chaps80

    Rumors Thread

The trade hasn’t even, or may not even happen. If Neuvirth is expected back in a reasonable timeframe, Hextall may not want to take on another goalie. Like he didn’t want to take on any goalie at any price before Neuvirth went down. Let’s start at the trade first, if it happens, and go from there. Is Howard gonna be ok though? He hasn’t played well lately. But I guess it’s for the best draft wise.
  19. chaps80

    Rumors Thread

You never know what can happen. If he impresses Hextall, he may keep a spot. Easy to dump one of their current goalies if needed. If he ends up a UFA, then so be it. But if he’s not staying in Detroit and goes to Philly, i’d like to see him succeed and stay there out of all other places. He could be a good fit. Holland can try to get Tavares all he wants, but there is NOTHING in Detroit right now to attract him. A team that needs to bottom out to begin a true rebuild that will take years. Ya, where do I sign??!! There’s reasons elite UFAs don’t want to go to Detroit anymore. Holland is a major reason. Players know his roster is screwed due his stupid contracts and being stubborn delaying a rebuild so long and refusing to accept a full youth movement. Trading prospects and young roster players to hang onto his vets. Instead of focusing on giving Mrazek away for peanuts, maybe try to move Helm or Abby for peanuts to get the cap savings? Oh wait. He can’t. He’d probably trade AA if it meant he could keep Helm. Not like AA trade rumours haven’t surfaced. Time to give up on him too? Plus, Tavares probably wants to win a Cup while he’s still in his prime. That’s the ultimate reason why he’ll tell Holland to go f*** his hat.

    Rumors Thread

He has his moments. But he’s an AHL goalie, doubt he’ll be anything more. Unless he’s learned to stand up and use his size to his advantage a lot more. I recall him laying on the ice more than anything last season.

    Rumors Thread

What would attract him to sign with a team that needs to bottom out to start a rebuild that will take years? His buddy Frans? There’s nothing here for an elite player that wants to win a Cup before he’s out of his prime. Just like Stamkos when he didn’t give Kenny a meeting. Not even a meeting. This team is not attractive to elite UFAs.

    Rumors Thread

Dude, I know you dislike Mrazek. But trading him isn’t THAT simple anymore to some fans after his recent play. It throws up a lot of questions that can’t be answered before the deadline, and this team is going nowhere. They have the time to give this situation a better look, and they should be. Hasty trades can bite you in the ass. They lose a half ass draft pick if it doesn’t work out. Wow, better offer him up to any team with an injury right away. He’s been the better goalie for a over a month, at a time when it SHOULD count for playoff happy Holland. Guess he doesn’t care about playoffs anymore. At least that’s a positive I can take from this trade if it happens. Bring up big sieve Jared and we’re set for tank.
  23. chaps80

    Rumors Thread

They may be looking for a rental now, but if he plays like he’s been playing the rest of the way, and even into the playoffs, he becomes a valuable asset. If you don’t think they’d pick up the qualifier in that case to retain rights to keep or maybe trade him, that’s your opinion. But Philly honestly hasn’t had a true difference making goalie long term since Hextall tended the nets himself. It’s a revolving door in goal there. If they think he can solve their problems for a few years, you bet theyre taking advantage of it. They probably learned from the Bobrovsky trade how an undervalued asset with potential can be useful to another team.. Tavares isn’t coming to Detroit. Lol

    Rumors Thread

Looks like the Philly rumour is gaining traction. Several sites reporting ongoing trade talks today. Holland will do what he wants to do. I think it’s idiotic to move him considering how he’s been playing lately though. By keeping him for the rest of the season, they can see where they stand in goal come summer. If Mrazek is great the rest of the way, awesome. If not, they missed out on a third rounder. Big deal. The risk outweighs the crappy reward in this case. If he ends up being big for Philly and their future, it’s just another strike against Holland. One that hopefully is the last, and kills any chance of him staying on. I still don’t get Philly though. What are they going to do when Elliott returns? Neuvirth’s injury has to be fairly serious if they’re looking to add a goalie after Hextall said they’d ride out Elliott’s injury with him. Nothing out there yet on that though. If both are due back this season, that’s a nice logjam with Mrazek. They’ll be losing one of the three if they’re forced to waive someone, unless a goalie comes back in the deal. Which I imagine would be Neuvirth, if anyone.

    2/18 GDT - Maple Leafs @ Red Wings - 7:00 PM EST

I know it’s only been a ten start stretch since he’s turned things around and everyone is skeptical (rightly so), but he’s gotta start somewhere, right? I meant if he is doing well here now, he’ll likely continue doing well if moved. Would be a shame for it not to be in Detroit after all the time invested in him. But in the end it’s on Holland.
