The Flyers will stick with Neuvirth as their starter until Elliott returns. He’s perfectly capable of handling things. Good chance to give Lyon more starts too. Any goalie they pick up for short term help would have to be waived to make room for Elliot’s return. Don’t want to have to give up much just to turn around and do that. Niemi would fit that. He could be had for next to nothing and has a cheap cap hit. But I don’t see Philly being in the goalie market.

It was answered above. I’d take the risk on Mrazek at this point. Can always find a younger non injury prone Howard type goalie. Rebuilds need risks. And that’s why our rebuild is stuck. Holland plays it very safe with everything.

Not really. I knew Howard would get starts. I was surprised Mrazek got as many in a row as he did. But at least he made the most of it. He’ll start again soon I’m sure.

Clearly I meant the one bad game during his past great stretch. Without that game he allowed 9 goals in 6 starts with two shutouts and a 1.30 GAA. This is Jimmys best game since the 13th of January. Take it easy now.

Better? Mrazek just had a streak of games like this. And 3 shutouts. Still 0 for Jim. They’re both going to start, unless Mrazek’s one s***ty game got him another month long pine ride. Anyways, two more points we didn’t need. Great.

Good answer. A rebuilding team has to take risks. And if he still flops, the team can find another Howard type. They’re all over the league. That’s what I never understood about hanging onto Howard like he’s a franchise goalie or something. That he has to be held onto, because he’s not around to pick up the slack if Mrazek proves he’s absolutely not the answer, we’re screwed. Far from it.

Coreau was pretty bad. He wasn’t any better than Mrazek. He also started the WC, which was a huge snub to Mrazek. I believe Coreau getting the starts he did, especially the WC, was Blash trying to show Mrazek that he won’t play continually with the effort he was putting out regardless of who is behind him. And even that didn’t make him work any harder at the time. You get what you put in. But Coreau never took over the starting job. Mrazek played more games in the time Coreau was up from GR. Coreau was highly overrated by the media, especially HSJ. She even suggested the Wings might protect him in the expansion draft. Hahaha

I was joking about Coreau. I don’t think he’s really an option, unless one goalie goes and Holland embraces the rebuild full on and wants a dirt cheap backup. I don’t think he’s NHL material, but he works in a pinch in an injury callup. He’s a big guy who covers a lot of net, which is his main desirable trait, but he hasn’t seemed to use it to his advantage like Bishop did. Although i think Bishop is overrated these days. Coreau ends up all over the ice trying to be too athletic instead of standing up and giving shooters nothing. Even if one goalie goes, Holland may look at UFA journeyman backups instead. I would explore it for sure.

I didn’t. But it’s a good way to tank. I dunno what they should do in net going forward at this moment. Everything’s up in the air lately. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mrazek is qualified though. Then they have one more year with both goalies who will be UFAs at the end of the season. Maybe figure it out then or trade one during next season? Kinda seems like a Holland move. It’s still a lot tied up in goaltending, but one season won’t make a difference. Who really knows except Holland.

With Green, you give up defensive ability for offensive ability. Why not just transition a forward with some offensive skill and a good hard shot over to defence? Witkowski can play both forward and defence, so I figure there’d be hopes for pretty much anyone to learn be able to. Not saying it’s a replacement for Green. Just thinking.

Start Coreau next season.

Won’t be an issue. Hasn’t been any mention of his NTC in trade rumours at all. Pretty much a given he’ll go along with a trade to a contender. If he were to block a trade only to ride the rest of this season out on a team with zero chance of winning anything when he could have a Cup shot, I’d have to question his sanity. If he really likes it here, he can sign again as a UFA July 1 with the team gaining valuable picks by renting him out, so to say.

Probably none if they win games they should lose based on third period play alone. Green is a must. Trade him and get good assets. Keep him and he walks for nothing. Even if playoffs are possible, they will win nothing with or without him. Must trade.

Hahaha they actually salvaged the two points. Wow. 11 GA in two games, still got 3 points out of them. Only in Detroit.
