He’s not on a shutout run. But yes, i’ve said before if Mrazek can show he’s ready to take over finally, i’m fine with dropping a few spots. Having a great young starting goalie going forward into a rebuild is just as important as that potential pick, if not more. And the way this team salvages points out of losses and flip flops from horrid to great from game to game sometimes, they’re probably headed for the same draft spot they had last season. There is no tanking in Detroit.

If Mrazek gets this team into the playoffs, i’ll be very surprised. I was talking about Holland and his playoff obsession. He admits they need a rebuild, but still wants to make the playoffs at the same time? It doesn’t work like that.

Agreed. But Holland is playoff obsessed. Even when the team sucks and he desperately needs a high draft pick, his end goal is always “Trying to make a run”. A run at WHAT?! The second WC spot? Who cares! The series will last 4-5 games, Wings will be sent packing. And then Holland has put the team wayyy outside the top ten in the draft. For NOTHING. Pointless! If your not good enough to do damage in the playoffs, concentrate on getting the best pick possible ya idiot.

If they do extend him, it better be for ONE season, and only to give the team time to find his replacement. If they aren’t already looking, it may happen. This doesn’t seem like the kind of franchise that would make a GM move in one offseason. I would absolutely welcome Yzerman coming back to Detroit as the GM. I’m just not as convinced as some that it would happen, even if offered. He spent his entire playing career in Detroit, then stuck around in the office for a bit already. Holland was part of it not wanting to move up, but I think he wanted a fresh start at the same time. Look at Brodeur. Spent his entire career in NJ, played a few games in STL in his last season, then jumped into their front office. Fresh start, something different. Yzerman may be over the Lightening job though and may want to take the job in Detroit. But I don’t think it’s THAT simple.

Zero points was half a minute away. Green got us one point. Funny how the guy that’s 100% going to be traded to a contender (which I’m sure he welcomes) if things don’t shape up real fast is scoring goals like that, salvaging points out of needed losses. I know it’s his job, and he’s not going to miss a chance to score a goal at anytime. And it helps his trade value scoring those kind of late goals that a contender will need going forward. Yep. Blatant goalie interference call leads to the Florida loss, then that dive gave this game back to NYI. Still no excuse for allowing 4 ******* PP goals in a row when leading 5-2 though. How does that even happen? And no, it’s not all on the goalie, which seems to be the go to answer. Traditional goaltending strategy has been forgotten over the years. It’s the goalies job to stop initial shots, any rebounds should be cleared away by the defence. Helps when you have one though. I happens all over the league, teams leaving their goalie alone to stop two or three shots in a row. Battle for those loose pucks and clear them!!

Neither. Why trade your possible future long term franchise goalie for draft picks? Cause he’s winning you games? Eventually this team needs a goalie of his capability, and they aren’t easy to find. Just because our GM can’t see past a playoff berth, doesn’t mean Mrazek shouldn’t be kept around. Holland is the problem in this situation. If he doesn’t realize it’s time to rebuild by now, regardless of how good the goaltending currently is, it’s time for him to go. Not that we didn’t already know it. Hasek won Buffalo games they had no buisiness winning for years. Not comparing the two whatsoever. Just an example. But they didn’t trade him right away just because of his game stealing play. That’s kind of what’s being suggested here. This team has nothing but time. If Holland tries to rush things, that’s squarely on him.

It’s not a problem though. At least not his problem. If they don’t want him stealing games, bench him. Blash doesn’t have to keep starting him. Howard is still there. You can’t fault any player at any position for suddenly finding their game. If that was the case, most of this team should be benched.

He took his time getting his s*** together, I agree. But if Howard was still starting most games and they were winning them, would that be his fault too? Or would that be ok since he’s been fairly consistent all season? Its not like Mrazek decided to play half ass until the deadline was close then turn it up all of a sudden to screw Holland out of draft picks to be a vindictive ******* for the expansion draft exposure and comments about his attitude and work ethic. He’s had great games earlier this season. He just was never given the chance to build on them because Blash was playing Howard, and rightly so. Maybe this started out as a showcasing for trading him, and Blash and Kenny didn’t expect these kind of results out of him. Too bad.
