I fully realize the consequences of him starting to play well this close to the deadline with regards to Holland trading assets. It’s a weird situation, because i’ve been waiting for him to get it together, and glad he has. But with Holland’s nature, this may seem to him like the time to wait trades out and even stand pat if a playoff spot is in reach, even remotely. In the end though, Mrazek stepping up and continuing to play well is and would be a major plus for the team going forward. Even a key thing going forward. It may cost the team in other areas, but sometimes gaining things doesnt happen without losing others. If he keeps Green around for a maybe playoff spot, that’s just plain bad asset management. He’s gotta go regardless of what the goalies are doing. Team is not winning a Cup.

He sounds very content and confident, not worrying about trade rumours, and says he’s happy in Detroit. Also, Howard seems to be cool with it and supportive. That probably helps some. But, the team publicly bringing out his attitude issues and lack of work ethic, and exposing him to Vegas in the summer still may have him a bit pissed. He got a shot and he’s taking full advantage of it so far. But I highly doubt he “planned” this to throw a wrench in the works to f*** with Holland’s deadline plans just to be vindictive, but it is a funny coincidence, that’s for damn sure!

Your right. Holland May stand pat if there’s a remote chance at playoffs. That is kinda spooky. Green has to go no matter what. The rest I’m not worried about. But they can’t miss out on the potential assets from a Green trade, playoffs or not.

I think the focus is still on selling assets at the deadline. Green will be traded. Tatar or Nyquist, if they can find a trade partner, I hope Goose goes. XO might not have a taker, and if he does it’ll be minimal return. I don’t think either goalie will be gone by the deadline. It would be nice to do it, but there’s no real market. Things have changed drastically in a short amount of time in goal for Detroit. A few weeks may not be enough time to figure out their plans. Playoffs won’t happen for this team. Tbey are 8 points out of last wildcard. They will have to win most of their 30 odd remaining games and hope all the team’s higher in the standings lose a bunch. They can focus on playing as well as they can of course, but the deadline deals should still go ahead as planned. You can’t hang onto Green just for a futile playoff attempt and let him walk for nothing July 1.

Blash hadn’t ruled out playing Mrazek tomorrow before the game tonight. Wouldn’t be surprised if he or Howard starts. Toss up.

It is. Honestly, if he is going to assert himself and take the starting job and roll like they’ve wanted and needed him too, i’m Ok with a lower draft pick. To gain something, you have to lose something somewhat. Your gonna jinx it!!! Nah, he’s good. He deserves it.

Just checked the score. 4-1. Mannn we flyin! Petr for realz yet? No it is not.

Yeah Hartford and the first NJ jerseys. As much as I hate to say it, The Nordiques had a hell of a nice jersey too, especially the home white. Tie game. This years main theme.

This team just needs to shoot more. Too many playmakers on the roster trying to pass it around and do things fancy. This game they got quite a few on net, even from the defence. Gotta keep doing that. If it’s not on net it’s not gonna result in anything, obviously. Even if it’s not pretty, it counts. Dirty goals man!

You can blame the refs and league for bad calls and not suspending Malkin when the rules clearly state he should have been out for Game 4. star player treatment though... But, the Wings had a 2-0 lead in that series and blew it. It shouldn't have gone seven. Game 7 was slowww from what I remember too. Both teams being very cautious. The Pens just managed to get one more goal, but one shouldn't have counted since it was clearly offside by feet. Osgood played his ass off to get so close to that repeat title and the Conn Smythe trophy. I think he kind of gave up after that it was such a letdown. Poor season in 2010 then retired.

Frk needs to put a slapper through the net against his former team.

Tim Hunter had a badass nose.

I know they’re on the hook for $3.3 million per for three or four years with Griess. Thats not looking good right now. They could send Halak over for Howard. Halak is UFA in July, and they’d have one more season of Jimmy to figure out where they stand in net. Could probably get a pick in the deal too. The Isles are the only team looking to make a move by the deadline, unless long term injuries pop up elsewhere in the next month.
-
We can only hope. I’m sure negotiations begin with a first. Depends on what teams will give up. Vegas may bid high with the hopes of resigning him in the off-season to bolster blue line offence going forward. They have the cap and picks.
-
If he keeps his play up, letting him hit UFA would be a huge mistake IMO. Wings would then have zero rights and it’s open season for any teams. It wouldn’t get that far. Extension or the RFA qualifier would be done. No way Holland doesn’t at least take advantage of his rights.

He hasn’t been inconsistent his whole career. Around 2014 or so is when it began. Coincided with his injuries and the team beginning to decline. He lost focus for awhile. Then when he was on the trade block he had a wake up call and worked on his game. His resurgence happened at the same time as Mrazek’s decline. It’s too bad they both didn’t play well at the same time, then this discussion wouldn’t be happening. Howard would have a starting job elsewhere. This I can agree with. There are those that only pop up when he’s doing well.
-
I think i’m one of the only posters that’s constantly defended Mrazek. Most that did at one point had given up on him. Yes, Howard has been more consistent this year. But not all Mrazek’s games were crap before this stretch either. He’s had a few good ones. The Washington OT loss and the Edmonton shutout especially showed the talent was still there. Too early to give up in my opinion, especially when the team isn’t contending. I don’t even see the big deal about moving a goalie this season anymore. Not even sure there’s a market besides NYI. Chicago has Crawford returning soon so they’re out.

Todd Bertuzzi fits wherever the hell he wants to. Besides through some doorways. Beast.

Potvin in his prime VS Emery in his prime. Who wins?

Regardless of if he doesn’t continue on this path of great play, bringing up your average that much in that short of a span is undeniably a great achievement for him. Probably boosts his confidence and makes him want to continue to do things right and rid his game of flaws. You talk about Mrazek taking nights off like he’s the only goalie on the team who has. Howard’s season hasn’t been anything impressive either, very average. But you’d never know that around here. Shutouts? Mrazek has three to Howard’s zero in half the games.
-
No, the fourth Edmonton offered with Detroit retaining salary wasn’t taken. And that was at the time just after Holland “couldn’t give him away” at the expansion draft and during the summer. Not sure what the price would be now, if Holland is still considering trading him, but it won’t happen for peanuts and salary retention anymore.
-
Blash was asked if these constant starts Mrazek has been getting are a showcase. He said “No, not at all, no.” I think they’re very pleased that he’s been playing well, because it’s what they want. For him to finally take over. The only reason for trading him was his play last season and the fact he couldn’t get anything going this season because Howard was playing well enough to hold the starting job down. Your always going to hear rumours. Since the summer we’ve been hearing about how hard he’s worked, and has continued to work. He was given a shot and has run with it. Best possible outcome for this team right now. Hope he keeps rollin’! As for taking the starting job back, it kinda looks that way. No reason not to keep playing him. As long as he gets us a good return. I don’t see a first happening, but should fetch a second if there’s so many teams Interested.
-
If Mrazek is kept around past the deadline and he keeps playing regularity at the level he has recently, they will either try to negotiate a longer deal or qualify him for one year if they have to. Either way, they won’t let him walk. That would indeed be foolish.
-
That’s crazy. He’s improved his season GAA by almost 1.00 in 4 starts and part of a 5th game. He’s allowed 5 goals in that span. Keep on rollin Petr! Probably was. That was his first shootout of the season I think.
