I don’t see anything wrong with alternating them like they did before. Lots of money in both. Why not have them both playing? BUT, I do get it. Howard is the starter this season so that won’t happen. The goalie battle you speak of had already concluded a year ago though. Last season Mrazek was the starter and Howard was on the trade block. Mrazek had a bad season and lost the job, even though starters don’t often lose jobs after one bad season. But, that’s the past. When Mrazek had his great stretch at the start of 2015-16, and Howard was struggling, they were still giving him starts trying to get him going. Same thing I’m talking about here. I dunno, two bad losses when the team is struggling and winless in 6 should be enough to give your backup goalie a start. We’ll see tomorrow. I think Howard will start though.

I agree with this. But it’s time to change it up. 10 goals against in two straight starts, Howard needs a break. Paying $9+ million for two goalies..use both. I understand Petr is the ‘backup’ this season, but nothing wrong with giving him a shot after the last two games. Both need to play a fair amount of games so the team can properly evaluate where to go in the offseason, because there is a decision to be made with Petr and to resign him or not, and what’s he worth? Jimmy has one season left, but could he be moved at the deadline next season to a contender needing insurance? If he is moved, there has to be someone ready to take over. Is it Petr? Won’t know until you can evaluate him properly. A start every few games and coming in in relief when Jimmy lays a turd isn’t enough.

Put em on any line. They can score and scrap. Need a Reg Dunlop to get these goalies we’ve been facing lately off their game too. Least make things entertaining. Haven’t seen a good goalie flip out in a long time.

So Jimmy has allowed 10 goals in two games. Defence sucks yes, but time to give Mrazek some starts. Might piss Jimmy off though, can’t have that.

Well hopefully we can light up Niemi. He’s had one good game this season, his last start they lost in OT. 5.50 GAA or something and no wins.

Yep. Knew there was a reason my Pens fan friend didn’t have much to say to me about Wilson. Same with me to him about Sheahan. Big guy who plays soft and scored two goals last season in the final game. Bout it. Useless crap for useless crap. Just Sheahan costs more.

Yeah, the Nords fanbase went through years of horrible teams. They pull off the Lindros deal, become an instant playoff team, finally. Keep getting better, then have the rug pulled out from under them and see the relocated team win the Cup. That’s just brutal. Even if they hadn’t gotten Roy, they were pretty much a solid goalie and maybe a couple years away from winning it in Quebec. Roy just sped up the process in Colorado. As for the move from Arizona, I didn’t think of the Conference realignment issues. Definitely don’t want to see Detroit in the West again. Florida, Carolina, etc. would be better. Arizona came to mind instantly though. That franchise is screwed as long as they stay there. Can’t believe Doan wasted his career there sticking it out. Don’t recall him ever asking for a trade to a contender either.

It’s funny how one Finals game can be the difference between your name on the Cup or not. Had Abby dressed for one game in ‘08, he would have had it. So yeah, probably a bit of an empty feeling for him knowing that. Hoisting the Cup and being given a ring is a hell of a consolation prize though.

I’d say Wilson was pretty much a throw in to send cap back the other way. Holland may have asked for a pick instead, but no dice, thus the upgraded pick. Rutherford knew Holland was at the cap and needed to sign AA, and he wanted Sheahan. The deal opened up just enough cap for it. Rutherford probably wasn’t about to give away a good pick for a ‘what if?’ player. He took a small chance. So far, he lost.

Haha many ‘unworthy’ players have hoisted the Cup over the years. Combination of blowing a 2-0 series lead, flat play ( possibly due to being an older team that played a ton of hockey in two years), and the refs giving the Pens a hand. Jinx was probably allowing Sid to skate the Cup around the Joe. Blasphemy. A lot of old ghosts moved on that day.

Sheehan/Wilson trade did nothing for either team thus far (as far as those two go). Opening cap for AA (main reason for the deal) and upgrading draft picks still leaves Holland the clear winner.

Yep. That and adding Roy as the final piece. I remember how pissed Nords fans were when the team got moved to Colorado and won the Cup right away. I don’t really blame them though, although I highly highly doubt the Habs would have traded Roy to them if the franchise was still in the same province. Bettman needs to give up on Arizona and move them to Quebec City. They would be so much better off with actual fans and an NHL quality arena already there ready to support and house the franchise. Probably sell tons of season tickets in days just like Winnipeg did.

Had the Wings won, he would have gotten his name on the Cup. Takes 41 regular season games, or one Finals game to qualify. Hence why Downey’s name is on the ‘08 Cup, as he played enough regular season games, but he didn’t dress for the playoffs. Either way, Abby has hoisted the Cup and played in the Finals. Close enough.

I’d be fine with it. Many captains are former assistant captains who move up, natural progression. Abby may not be the best player on the team, but a captaincy is more than just being the best. Hatcher was captain In Minnesota/Dallas for over a decade before Modano got it. He’s the longest serving captain the that franchises history. It’s about leadership, locker room motivational skills, being visible and available to media ( Abby seems to actually enjoy that and knows how to handle it), among other things. I’d rather see a seasoned 12-15 year veteran with a Cup ring and another Finals appearance take the C than a kid who’s got 3-5 years in by the time Z vacates it.
