A Vezina season? With this team’s defence? I doubt Holland is thinking Vezina or bust with Mrazek. Lol If he ends the season with decent numbers, he’ll be resigned. Probably not at the amount of money he’s currently making though. He’ll be offered less and another short term. If he does have a Vezina season, he’ll get a raise and a longer contract. Howard is UFA after next season, and has no M-NTC left after this season. He’s getting older, and I doubt he wants to stick around Detroit past next season. Probably would like a shot at a Cup somewhere else by that point. I can see him getting traded to a contender that needs goalie insurance at next deadline for picks. If he keeps up the solid play and goes fairly injury free. The Wings will not be winning any Cups during what’s left of his career. If I was him, I know I’d want a trade. Whether it’s Mrazek, Coreau, Petruzelli, or an outside UFA or trade, Howard has to be replaced eventually. Next season he has zero leverage in a trade process, so its the best opportunity to trade him for a decent return and let both parties move on. But it’s Holland. He’ll probably want to re-sign him for $5 million per until the early 2020’s and tack on another NTC.

NTCs/NMCs. Just another thing Holland throws into contract negotiations to sweeten the deal, seemingly without thinking about the problems it can/will create if guys don’t live up to their contracts. Some do move into modified NTCs later in their contracts, like Howard has. He can be traded, but he still has some control of where he ends up by submitting his ten team list. If a deal can’t be reached with one of them, or if he isn’t willing to waive the NTC to go somewhere else, Hollands hands are tied. Players who’s NTC/NMC has modified status thisseason: Howard, Kronwall. 2018/19 Nielson (modified NTC/NMC, still tons of leverage and control until UFA) , Errorsson 2019/20 Tatar, Daley 2020/21 Abdelkader, DeKeyser Helm’s never moves into a modified NTC. NTC status straight into UFA. Hahaha Howard only has the M-NTC this season. Next season he has zero leverage regarding trades. Nyquist also has a full NTC until he hits UFA. Mannn.

He’s also probably one of the shortest goalies in the league. NHL.com has him at 6’2, but I think he’s more like 6’0. Not the first team to use the screen strategy to beat him. Maybe his teammates could help him some by clearing the crease.

No I don’t think it’s Lundqvist they’re too worried about. He can tills play at a high level. It’s more the backup spot they want to improve. I dunno how Pavelec keeps getting chances in this league. Hammond would make sense in that regard. Highly doubt they’d want a 4 million plus backup in Mrazek. No reason for Holland to move him anyways. “ Hmm, he’s getting his s*** together, trade time!” A
