He has, no denying that!! Hope he keeps it up and stays healthy, but I have to remain skeptical of him due to his past implosions. He may just be one of those goalies that has his best years later in his career though. We shall see. -

Or waive him and hope he gets picked up. If he clears, call him back up for another waiver trip! Repeat process. -

Frk!! Glad we got this kid back by waiver default! Kenny screwed up but it naturally corrected itself! -

Yeah s***ty efforts the past two games after two great ones in the first two games. Could be much worse if not for the goaltending. I figure the team will be up and down like this all season. Just keep a consistent effort ffs! -
Blash sucks, but I agree that Holland is the main issue. He’s inept at cap management. He has a Cup and two West titles in the cap era, but those teams consisted of leftover players from pre-cap Cup teams, and things like late round picks Z and Dats becoming stars, and Osgood stepping up to an elite level in the playoffs unexpectedly. Since 2010 they haven’t made it past the second round. Since 2014, out in first round in 5, 7, 5 games then missed playoffs. Steadily worse, and has a pile of bad contracts and at the cap limit. Change is needed.

I get that. But Blash has to assert himself and do what he feels is best for the team to win games. Although he doesn’t seem to be able to keep lines that work together anyways. Roulette wheel of doom in full spin. -

Should that even be up to him? Babs would have put him where he felt he needed to be. Lol -

True and overdue. Luongo has tied Cujo for fourth in all time wins. Good for him!! -

Not looking good so far. Raanta is gonna pick this game to pull his stats up a bit, of course. -

Just checked the box score. 9 to 4 shots in favour of Yotes. Already a 5 on 3 for them? Wake the hell up haha. Raanta has a 4.29 GAA so far? Damn. Thought he was better than that. Guess going to a worse team doesn’t help though. Make that 11-4 edge in shots. -
This is true. I just did quick math in my head. 50/32 split would be ideal. Just saying give Howard a break more often. Might avoid the yearly injury(s). Or ride him hard and chance it, whatever. Ahh OK. Didn’t see mention of that anywhere. Figured AA had his number in mind, and if he was given it, was going to sign.

Saw another projected lineup that had Errorsson with Daley on second pairing. Hope this is the correct one. Although Errorsson with Kronwall is damn scary, even on third pairing. Forwards and Jimmy best be on the ball with those two on ice same time. That’s gonna a laughable. -
At this point, that’s pretty much what it is. If Howard keeps playing well, play him. If he regresses or is injured, Mrazek will get his chance. What Sajatko said in the offseason about Howard starting 50 games though, seems like a bit much for him. Could happen, but they need spacing out. If they can go 2 for 1 every three games and always alternate back to backs, that would be perfect. No need to push Howard hard. Need both goalies playing well this season and ready to go.
-
Wonder, did Mrazek get this start because Blash wanted to see how he handled a team with the offence the Stars have? Knowing he’d face a good amount of shots, and to see how/if his off-season game changes had helped him? Cause with Howard’s play in the first two, and having a break in between, I was fully expecting him to start this one. Didn’t think Mrazek would start till the upcoming back to back, probably the Vegas game. Bit of a weird move. Maybe that was the reason, to feel him out fairly quickly to see what he’s dealing with. That or he simply just doesn’t want him to sit too long.
-
He could have given AA a bit more and still signed Daley. Could have skipped out on Witkowski, and I dunno what ever became of the Sheahan to Pittsburgh trade that was apparantly very close to a done deal. That could have freed up cap too. There’s apparently lots of interest in Sheahan, but for some reason it seems Holland won’t pull the trigger on a trade. The amount he is offering AA is pretty much in line with what other teams have signed similar aged similar producing young forwards for though. Either his agent hasn’t explained that to him, or he just doesn’t care. Who knows. Just not a player I’d like to lose is all.
-
Good points. I just think he should have been the first player to get an offer. Take care of in house business, then go UFA hunting. But Holland does things backwards sometimes. Oh well, if he gives in and signs, good. If not, not much can be done. He obv doesn’t want to play NHL hockey that bad. I miss watching him get down the ice in a blur of speed and make goalies look stupid though.
-
Thanks. Wasn’t sure which of the two it was. It’s possible he doesn’t want to be in Detroit. He wanted more money to stay (possibly making it tough on Holland on purpose), and had a nice tax free payday in the KHL he was trying to use as leverage, but let it expire. He may not even sign in Switzerland either. Gotta be signed by December to play for Detroit. We’ll see what happens, but last season may have made his mind up. He wasn’t treated well for the skills he brings, and it’s not like the system is overflowing with kids like that. May not want anything to do with Blashill.
-
Yeah that whole AA situation has me pissed off. He should have been taken care of before Kenny went UFA shopping. But as usual he expected a youngster to bend over and take whatever he offered. Backfired. Only bright side is his KHL offer expired, and he’ll make a fraction of what Holland offered if he stays in Sweden. I dunno if he cares though. Making the CDN Olympic team seems to be his goal now, and with NHL players not participating, he can’t re-sign and still play in them. I respect that I guess. It should never have gone this far though. He should have been the first guy on Holland’s agenda to lock up. But nope, veteran D man and 13th forward/agitator.
-
Mrazek wasn’t bad. People like to overreact. It was ONE game. Jimmy started against the Wild and Sens, and played excellent. He won’t play every game. Mrazek has to play too. Mrazek drew the Stars, who have much more offensive firepower, and held the fort. The whole team played differently than the first two games. Quite a few brain farts out there. One goal was Mrazek’s fault. Overall, he played well. 3 goals on what, 32 shots? From what I saw, he’s better than last season. And yes, no breakdown after the softie, which is encouraging in itself. You guys do realize 4 pucks got by Howard in the first game? Got the benefit of two waved off. Both goalies are gonna see a lot of rubber this year unless the D can tighten up. I hear Kronwall is nearing return though...

26? Add about 7 seasons worth to that total. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anyone who thought Mrazek was the next coming of Hasek is pretty damn delusional. He's got skill, but not Hasek skill. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Exactly. I don't "hate" Howard either. But who knows how much longer he has with all his past issues. Some younger goalie has to take the reigns soon by necessity. If not Mrazek or Coreau, then another will. Howard is one of those players I swear has things given to him as a veteran. Gets too much benefit of the doubt from management and coaches. Osgood couldn't even have the starting job back after Legace until he won the damn team a Cup, but sure Jimmy, take the net back based on 1/3 of the season you were actually available to the team.
