Yeah, '95 sucked too. I expected more in the Finals than a sweep at the hands of NJ. Couldn't believe it. NJ and their trap system killed em. Had no answer for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I didn't care less if Flip walked, but good points. No Weiss, probably no Nielson. God damn I hate that Nielson signing. With that term and length, and what he brings, it's immovable until the summer before the last season at best, or the last season's deadline to a contender looking for veteran scoring help (if the Wings are not contenders themselves again by then). It is a good description. He's often way too aggressive and gets caught. Same coach also said he's got incredible athletic ability to be able to make those saves though. If he is getting more open to coaching suggestions and criticism, and willing to work, excellent. Even the best of them needed help along the way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We all know what was said. Not going over it again. Holland talked some s***. No theories, I'm glad he wasn't selected. And Fleury had a bad season last year too, although he only played 28 games, but that seems to be a reasonable amount to judge a goalie by. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, Howard put the work in to improve. Like said in the article, its maturity that got him there, refusing to give up accept that he'd be only a backup, and when Mrazek left an opening, he jumped on it. Mrazek needs to gain some maturity, put the work in, and he can bounce back too. All the talent and confidence in the world can be useless when you don't work hard to keep sharp and just shrug off four goals against like it's nothing. He was simply pissed off at Blash because of losing starts, didn't want to accept coaching help to correct problems like being too aggressive and being caught out of position, and his game suffered. One goalie coach, not named, said he makes what should be fairly simple saves look spectacular because he's out of position. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2003 was by far the biggest shocker. A lot of the same guys left from the '02 HOF loaded team, replaced Hasek with another top 5 of the era in Joseph. Great regular season, then dropped four in a row first round to Anaheim. I know Giggy was a beast all playoffs for them, even winning the Smythe on the losing side in the Finals, but that's no excuse. Horrible exit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yep. We'll see. But it's probably the most positive thing about him in the media for awhile now. Jeff says he takes part ownership of Petr's down year, and has to find the right buttons to push with him to do things a little differently. Has to come into camp with an open mind and put the work in. Hope he does and can correct his bad habits. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

They had some good years in the 90's too. Made the ECF. Could never get to the Finals though. 1967, may it live on forever! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just cause it worked (or maybe it didn't, they just wanted a forward with Fleury a sure bet), doesn't mean it was good to talk that much s*** about him. Was kinda surprising coming from the Wings, who usually care about their players and keep things hush for the most part. I don't recall the last time I've heard Holland talk about a player like that. He must really think Mrazek has a lot of talent he's wasting and he's pissed off enough that he hasn't taken the starting job and ran with it to say those things publicly. So maybe it is good? Who the f*** knows. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It worked, even when many analysts said it was the biggest mind boggler on the unprotected lists. When you say a goalie has a bad attitude and an ego, ditched practice early, was at odds with the coach, got pissed about losing starts, and wouldn't take any coaching or advice on his play, then yeah, you probably hurt his value. Yeah, forgot how great he was. 6'6" and laying on the ice on his stomach trying to stop shots. Big little Coreau. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yep. Guess so. But, he pretty much guaranteed Mrazek's protection anyways with his mouth, so I guess it all evens out. Two for one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

They've thought they could win for decades now with the s*** they put on the ice. Worse part is, their fans thought so too. Only since Shanny, Lou, and Babs came aboard has that franchise had any common sense in its upper ranks and started building a true contender. Marleau is a bit of an odd signing though with the direction they're headed in with youth leading the way. 6+ million per for three years at age 38? Nice to have an experienced playoff vet on board, although he's spent his career with a franchise that's always been a playoff failure, when they should have won a couple Cups at least by now with the teams they had in front of a prime Nabokov in goal. They paid him too much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's really too bad. Not every vet can get protection like Jimmy for no reason I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

He does. Wasnt on the protected list, but no reason to take him at this point, unless to take on salary. I read somewhere he's projected as second pairing D this season and Holland seems to be happy that he and E are/will be ready to go. Oh the joy! Howard would have been perfectly safe had he been unprotected, just like every other vet except Z. He has about as much value as Kronwall does right now to other teams. None of the goalies would have been taken, especially after all the stuff management let fly about Mrazek's attitude. He was and is the best asset, and may have been taken if all there was for LV to worry about was a poor season, but other factors obv weighed in. With the way Holland operates, I don't think the smear he put on Mrazek was to see he gets claimed, but the opposite. Talk s*** about him, LV backs off, he keeps his asset and the potential he has in him. And, he can still be happy about the fact he gave his love Howard protected status. Don't wanna piss off a guy who's done soooo much for the franchise in his career, now do we Kenny? Howard-Approaching mid-30's, injury prone, inconsistent, lacklustre playoff goalie. Mrazek- Inconsistent, attitude, and a poor work ethic when he's at a crossroads and needs to work a lot harder and ditch that aggressive playing style that gets him exposed. Coreau-Inconsistent, few holes in his game to fix, plays small for a big goalie, needs more AHL time. Not exactly a list that would leave a GM salivating at the thought of taking one. Only one would be Petr, strictly on potential. Holland got away with not losing any though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Only they aren't ready to win now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Pretty much the jest of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well when you consider Holland had the guy for close to a decade, and he did nothing except hang out on the minors and was passed on the depth chart a couple times, so he eventually gave up and cut him loose. Why pick him up again one season later and waste a draft pick, even if it's a 7th? Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkIf you want a cheap backup goalie, Mike Leighton is available. Least he's been to the Finals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Red Wings sign D Trevor Daley to 3 year, 3.166m/yr contract, includes NTC/Modified NTC.

Holland included a NTC? Hahaha He loves throwing those in. Daley probably said no deal until he mentioned that. Then again, after one season in Detroit he'll probably waive it in a second at the deadline. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Even Ron Hextall to shake s*** up once in awhile. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nah, just got another mid-30's veteran D man, another Ott type grinder (that can fight better) that will be scratched quite a bit, and a bunch of minor league moves, including a goalie he already had for seven years, apparently gave up on and let walk, then spent a pick to get back. Hell of a job. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Same probably, but he's the player I like watching the most. With Daley, not much Cap room left. Hasn't stopped Holland before though... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is that what he signed for? Then yeah, priced himself cheap for a shot at a Cup at this point in his career. Good for him, chasing the hardware instead of the cash. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oh, Tatar will get at least $5 million a year. Nyquist got what, $4.25 million? AA and XO should be on bridge deals for a couple seasons. AA might get a bit more though. Hopefully nothing over $2.5-3 million. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
