Red Wings trade Vanek to FLA for (D) Dylan McIlrath and Conditional 3rd Round Pick
chaps80 replied to FireCaptain's topic in General
Oh. My mistake. 7 seasons since his first AHL game. Yes retained salary doesn't matter. All this talk about Vanek being the best trade chip the Wings had, and they end up with a 3rd. Lol Ya i'm sure Holland turned down Brent Burns and a 1st or something man. Of course he took what he could get. Doesn't mean the return doesn't suck for one of the top guys on the Wings all season. But it is what it is. And as far as Mcillrath goes, I highly doubt he suits up for the Wings. The guy was a 10th overall pick 7 years ago and he's spent most of that time in the minors or hurt. He's got 3 goals and 2 assists in 43 career NHL games. But at least he can fight I guess. That wasn't what I was implying. Obv a 3rd is better than a kick in the nuts, but Holland got a 3rd for spare part Jurco. You'd think Vanek would fetch more. -
Coreau started out alright, but was still allowing a lot of goals. Then after a bit he just imploded. IF Howard gets moved this summer or taken by Vegas, then Coreau will get a shot at the backup role. There will be other camp invitees, and they may even sign a cheap vet backup for insurance.

Red Wings trade Vanek to FLA for (D) Dylan McIlrath and Conditional 3rd Round Pick
chaps80 replied to FireCaptain's topic in General
Holland got fleeced, unless that was the best offer he got. Vanek does have a habit of dissapearing in the playoffs, and and will want quite a bit to re-sign. But really, a trade for a Dman who has spent most of his ten year pro career in the minors? Looks like he was in the Rangers system and had one season where he played a decent amount of NHL games. Other than that, nothing. I recall his name from awhile back. He's a big tough guy, but not that great a skater, and is prone to snapping out and taking stupid penalties. He probably won't see much time with the Wings unless he changes some things. They won't ice a guy who plays that way. As a fan, I def welcome a player with his size and toughness that can really fight, but not if he's going to be more of a liability than Kronwall or Errorsson when it comes to playing the game. The 3rd rounder is cool. Piling up picks is good good. But instead of the player+3rd plus retaining $1.3 mill in salary, a 2nd straight up would have been a lot better. Oh well. They can't all be winners, right Kenny? Yeah I don't see him ever playing a game with the Wings. Total opposite of the players they like, plus pretty much a career minor leaguer, injury prone, prone to dumb penalties, etc. Vanek for a 3rd sucks. Especially with the $1.3 mill in retained salary. -
Holland did surprisingly well for his first time being a deadline seller. Got more than expected for both Jurco and Smith, Ott was a fair swap, and Vanek he did alright, but I thought he'd fetch more. I was hoping for at least a 1st. i'm glad he realized that the team was not going to make the playoffs and did the right thing, traded his assets, and started the (hopefully) official rebuild instead of standing pat and trying to hold on and find a way iin to keep The Streak going, which wouldn't have happened. And would have blown this chance to stockplie picks. A- for Kenny for the deadline.

Ott traded to Montreal for 6th Round Pick (2018)
chaps80 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Yeah, sucks to lose Ott, but he was UFA and Holland wasn't going to resign him, nor is he needed going forward. Holland got a 6th for him, which is a lot better than keeping him around for the rest of the regulars and letting him go for nothing. Good luck with the Habs for sure. He's getting up there and hasn't won a cup. This gives him a chance. -
Brendan Smith traded to Rangers for 2nd (2018) and 3rd (2017) Round Draft Picks
chaps80 replied to ShanahanMan's topic in General
Turned down 3 years at $3.5 million per? What an idiot. Oh well, i'm glad he didn't take it. Lol -
Cujo had pretty good numbers (2.08 GAA, .917 SV%), but was swept that year. Mrazek has a 1.88 GAA, .931 sv%, and 3 shutouts in ten playoff games, all against Tampa. He took Tampa to 7 games in 2015 when they had no buisiness even getting that far, and gave the Wings every chance to win after replacing Howard 2 games in in 2016. His first start was a shutout.

Brendan Smith traded to Rangers for 2nd (2018) and 3rd (2017) Round Draft Picks
chaps80 replied to ShanahanMan's topic in General
I didn't hate Smith, but he didn't amount to what he could have in Detroit. Management gave him more than enough time to get it together, and he didn't. It always seemed like he'd make great progress in one area, but then decline in another. Was time to ship him out with other upcoming defenders needing spots and the expansion draft and his UFA status looming. The Rags overpaid, but so did Chicago for Jurco. Holland is actually off to a good start in the first season as a seller. Keep piling up those picks!! Now to move Vanek. I wonder what kind of offers Holland has been getting? A first would sure be nice. -
Mrazek has owned Tampa's ass too. Yep that works too.
-
But how many will sign with Vegas during the "early window"? Would make more sense for players to wait until July 1 when all teams can bid on their services. Why take Vegas' early offer and possibly screw yourself out of money? Only things I can see attracting UFAs to Vegas early is the offer of a captaincy or increased minutes.

Funny how you say garbage in goal then bring up Bishop. Bishop was garbage until his first full season in Tampa. Why would you give up on our young goalies so fast when it took Bishop 5 seasons of moving from AHL to NHL and back and three teams to finally get going and lock down a starting job? Plus, Bishop is a UFA. He's not good for anything but a rental to a playoff team right now.
-
Yeah Budaj was the reason the Kings have the playoffs in the picture still by the time Quick was ready. After moving around the league and starting the season in the AHL i thought he was long done, but he came back and was rock solid and the Kings MVP. Sucks he just got cast aside like that and traded to Tampa and out of the playoffs after that performance. He saved the Kings season and they ship him out at first opportunity. Pretty s***ty move, but it is a business I guess. The trade for Bishop is kind of just asking for conflict, but it was obv a hard trade to not make. Quick is the starter an has been for years. He may welcome Bishop, but he may also not like another star goalie in the dressing room ready to snag his job if given opportunity. Could end up like our own Hasek/Joseph debacle. We'll see I guess. Course not. But he needs to re-sign first.
-
Thanks for the clarificatio. That makes more sense that it would have to be a goalie under contract for the upcoming season. So Bishop won't count as their one goalie exposure. They'd have to re-sign Zatkoff or another goalie and expose him too.
-
Yeah I had to look it up. Kinda weird that you can use a player who will be a free agent to fulfill your exposure requirements. Especially since the draft is only a couple days before July 1. Not sure if I see Bishop claimed though. Why they would Vegas pick a UFA instead of a player under contract since it's a toss up if they'll sign with them (unless they have commitment to sign from that UFA). The player could sign elsewhere and they just lost one of their picks. I'd think they'd just try to negotiate with him when he hits free agency.
-
Why is there two threads on this?
-
I just saw Budaj, Erik Cernac and a 7th for Bishop. So the Kings are going forward with Quick and Bishop. Looookin tough! Budaj is part of the Bishop deal. Quick played Saturday and looked good. He'll be fine. Can you expose a UFA in the expansion draft? Lol
-
No details on what the entire trade involved? Also, why? Quick is back from injury, and Budaj has proved very capable in his absence and will be a solid backup going forward. What's the need for Bishop? Where does he even fit in? Unless there's another move in the works... Good job by Yzerman to move Bishop. Must be a bit of a relief. The net is now all Vasilevsky's as the franchise wanted.

I agree. But there's no way Holland leaves DeKeyser unprotected. And if he doesn't trade Green by the deadline, he has to be protected. Be good to have him around next season, plus he'll fetch a good return at the deadline then. The last one is the tough one, unless Smith is re-signed. Then he'll be protected. If not, one of Jensen/XO/Sproul will be. The good thing is Vegas can only snag one player. I hope it's a forward unless they take Kronwall, Errorsson, or Howard. Lol .
-
I'd take anything HSJ writes or says with skepticism. Remember when she wrote that Coreau would be the best of the three goalies to protect, after a total of ten whole NHL games under his belt? There's no way she knows for sure who any of the players the Wings are planning to protect are, besides the obvious ones like Nielson, Zetterberg and DeKeyser. I'm sure the list will leak, but it's a bit early for that.

I think he means claimed in the expansion draft...

Tomas Jurco traded to Chicago for a 3rd rounder
chaps80 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I get what your saying, but while guys like Nyquist and Tatar, who at one point looked like the next Zetterberg and Datsyuk, have regressed big time, Jurco never showed that sort of talent in the NHL in the first place. He has talent, which may be why Holland hung onto him so long hoping he'd reach his potential. Eventually you gotta cut your losses. -
Tomas Jurco traded to Chicago for a 3rd rounder
chaps80 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
It's not guaranteed. Someone just posted that he's practicing with Hossa and Kruger, who are on the third line right now. He could play on the top lines. Anythings possible, but I don't see a guy who was a spare part for the Wings jump up to the first or second line in Chicago. Lol -
Tomas Jurco traded to Chicago for a 3rd rounder
chaps80 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Well if he ends up on the third line with Hossa and Kruger, we'll see what he can do with all that supposed talent that was supposedly repressed in Detroit like some are saying. If he can't do anything with them, then we know it wasn't just the coaching and "improper use". He's just a bust who Kenny ditched for a good return. -
No they aren't. Vegas can start negotiating with free agents a week before July 1 or something though, giving them a jump on other teams. I think if they try to sign a player and he refuses, they can't turn around and claim him in the draft. I can't see many UFAs signing with them during the early window though. They'll want t see what other teams have to offer as well.
-
Hahahaha YEP!! Or they'll say Holland is a dumbass for giving him up for "nothing", but we're happy as hell and couldn't believe Holland got a third for him when the deal was made.
