New coach, injuries to key players, new quirks to the system, new rookies getting major playtime are all factors that are negatively influencing our play right now. I do think it's gonna be tight this season for sure, but let's give it a half a baker's dozen more segments of five to see what's going on.

Babcock did the same when Zetterberg was coming back from his back injury. Eased him in with Datsyuk on the top line. Worked well given the circumstances, remember Z needed a loong time to get well. He got healthy, according to himself, right before this season started.

Small altercations like that happens from time to time. Usually it's the players under pressure to produce. Nothing to care about, probably just venting off some steam. I like DeKayser, he isn't perfect but a good shutdown 2nd liner in the NHL right now. As for Smith... I have no idea what to think about this guy. Excellent hockey vision, good skater, physical, but something just isn't right in his head. Remember the puck that went off the boards in the playoffs, which Smith pushed back in the rink. He got us a penalty in the playoffs from the frickin bench. I'm surprised Babcock didn't send him down to the Griffins permanently. And he doesn't read the defense as well as when going outwards. I'd send him down. Can't worry about the stuff he can cause.

Good point rooter Athanasiou has shown good D. I'm just skeptical about the young guns, there's so much quirks such as system and the fact that the game is so freaking fast compared to the AHL. But I wouldn't mind watching a game with those lines. Just break them up if they don't work.

I was about to start one last night with the title "Do we have a first goalie?" and emphasize that it's hard to overlook Mrazek's results - he probably should be our number one right now. But I was too lazy to look up references such as stats, video clips etc so I just dropped it.

Abdelkader should be on the first line. Z and Dats needs muscle for the corners and net front so me likey that. We could really use a skilled big man with Larkin also but they don't grow on trees. I'm skeptical about that 2nd line. For now I'd like Sheahan centering that 3rd line, if only for defensive purposes. Guess we'll see if they keep these lines come tomorrow.

We could use Fedorov on the defensive first pairing. And centering the second line. And winging the third line. Heck I'll take Fedorov on almost all positions. Sneak in Holmström as a screener. Should get us a few more Stanley cups. Since we can't have that.. LGRW!

There's a reason Babcock didn't play Smith regularly. While he is an excellent puckmover and can create space and outlet from his own end he is simply not a safe option and his defensive provess is very irregular. Trade him, for anything, in my opinion.

Spot on joe. He is just not a good defender. Jimmy wanted to kill him, I lost all (little i had) faith in him too. He's suppose to be lying over the attacker on attempt nr 2. Penalty, game misconduct or no punitive action doesn't matter.

I think Jimmy would rather flip burgers on your local McDonalds than take Babcock's orders again. But hey it's just my humble opinion.

In hindsight we played well in period 2 and parts of period 3. The first period was one of the worst I have seen by the Red Wings. The dirty stuff aside, Dallas was the better team. At least we made them work for it a little bit. I hope Howard is Ok and the folks on the mile long injury list heals up, fast. We need them, desperately.
