AA needs to make some serious improvements to his game if he is going to blow the NHL away. He does have a ton of talent and speed but I think he lacks the IQ, vision, an work ethic to get to the next level. He’s still young and has time to improve his game but I don’t know if he’ll ever be elite. Maybe he would look elite on a line with two elite players.

I’m starting to think he should make the team as well. I guess we’ll see how he does the rest of the playoffs and in training camp. He still needs to work his ass off and prove he should be on the roster. I honestly think that he may have played it safe during the regular season with the wrist injury and all. Then once playoffs hit he stepped his game up. Funs over time to dominate.

Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread
BinMucker94 replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Hughes looks great in the NCAA tournament so far. His skating is elite. Very good at accelerating out of turns and from a standstill. Not sure I would grab him in the top 5 but if we end up falling out of the top 5 I would not be upset with this pick at all. -
Had 4 points in game 2. 2 goals and 2 assists. I hope he continues this pace through the playoffs. This is the scoring pace that everyone wants to see from a giant playing amongst children.

Either way this might open up a spot for Sulak in GR. Seems like he’s coming off a pretty solid season overseas. It would be nice to see what he can bring to the table. I don’t know much about his game.
-
I’d say screw it and call up Hronek. Probably won’t happen since he’s one of the top defenseman on GR and they are pushing for a playoff spot.

Not sure if anyone else has seen or posted this. Nice read on what the Portland Winterhawks GM thinks of Cholowski. http://www.princegeorgecitizen.com/sports/cholowski-s-stock-continues-to-rise-1.23195084 "Early in the year when I saw him play I thought he was a very mobile type of defenceman, jumps up ice, makes a good first pass, and I thought early in the year if we could ever get a player like that to help us out down the stretch that would be great and it turns out we were able to make that type of a deal," said Johnston. "But I didn't realize how good he was. He's a better player than I even though the was. He's very good defensively and I compare him to (Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman) Seth Jones, who we had several years ago. Seth never ran over you physically, but he was strong, he used his body well, he had a good stick defensively, and then when he got the puck his transition pass or skating was really good and I think Dennis is a lot like that. He's a better defensive player than I thought." "I think today's defencemen, especially when you think of Detroit or Chicago, those types of teams that transition, they want their defence to skate and move the puck. I really think Detroit is craving a guy like that now, that can play that type of style. He was well schooled here (in Prince George) and I don't know what happened at college, I don't think he got the opportunity and the playing time (last season at St. Cloud State), but certainly coming back to our league has been good for him. "We won't get him back next year, there's not a chance. We knew we would only have him for a short time but he's a pro in everything he does and the guys in the room will learn from him and then he'll move on."

I agree. I don’t think it would take 5 players to start turning this team around. Just an example that currently none of our players are capable of playing a top line role on a contender. Larkin and Mantha seem like they could be effective top line players down the road. Not sure if they ever reach elite status but if enough of our draft picks over the next 2-4 years pan out then we shouldn’t have any problem filling out the roster with top end talent.
-
I hope this gets him going and he can get himself in the show full time next season.
-
I get what you are driving at and there is definitely more involved than just having elite talent but there is no way that adding top line talent would not give this team a boost. Lets pretend that we have Winnipeg’s 1st line. I’d honestly play all 3 of these guys on the top line over anyone on our team. Currently it is Connor - Scheifele - Wheeler Then think about 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines We could have. Mantha - Larkin - AA Nyquist - Z/Nielsen - Bertuzzi/Abby/Frk Helm - Glenny - Abby/Bertuzzi/Wit Obviously we would be over the cap but some of these players wouldn’t be needed if we had top line talent. We could make trade if needed or whatever you gotta do to cut cap. But you would be able to decide what kind of line up you want. Give the team a sense of direction. Want a s*** down line? Great Helm - Glenny - Abby/Bert. Want 4 lines that can score? Great if you can accomplish that under the cap fine. Do the same with the defense Dahlin - EK Daley- Green DK - Jensen Theres no way that this line up wouldn’t be a hell of a lot better and more entertaining to watch. We just need to get those Elite pieces and it’s probably going to happen thru the draft unless we magically get JT and EK on free agency. Hopefully Larkin and Mantha can make the jump and soon

The fact that there is currently zero 1st line talent and zero top pair defense on this team is enough to make me believe that we lack elite talent. Everyone is currently playing above their role and struggling because of it. Add a few elite players to this team and players can start slotting into their proper roles and play a more consistent game.

That’s it Blash. Pull the goalie. Solidify the tank
-
Larkin needs to start finding the back of the net

Yes, he’s a very solid puck moving defenseman that the young guys coming up can learn from.

Mrazek traded to Philly for Conditional 3rd and 4th Picks
BinMucker94 replied to hankzet40's topic in General
Mrazek shut out the Habs tonight for his 3rd win with the Flyers. He’s looking pretty good right now. Seems to be a good shot at having that pick increase in value. -
In what decade this century will the Red Wings see their next cup?

It’d be nice to end up with him or Foote somehow

Does anyone think Nashville would give up Fabbro?

Castaway (How former Wings are doing)

All good. I didn’t have a link or anything cause I was posting right after the game. Couldn’t keep my self from laughing once he buried the game winner. I completely forgot he existed until the game started. -
