Your argument was Canadians have more heart, and all things equal that makes them the better selection. That is what most posters took exception with not that we need high end players. That's a given. Larkin has been very good over the last month. It is starting to appear that he is breaking through the sophomore slump.

The reason I picked the Abrams is because they are good at tanking in any situation. The Wings were good at tanking when we all wanted them to win, and now when we want them to tank they suck at it. -

You could add a lot more players to that list with Kronner. Mantha must have done/said something that we don't know about other than have defensive lapses. -

I think we should take a center with our first pick. I know Larkin is young, but he has shown nothing to make me think he could be a good center let alone a top line center. AA may develop into a top 6 center but that leaves us needing another.

While I don't think Nyquist sucks I also don't think he is very good either. Realistically he is somewhere in the middle. I am waiting to see if he lives up to his contract when he gets a new coach. -

If we pick 4th I would take Vilardi, Mittelstadt, Rasmussen, Tippett in that order. I think Tippett being so one dimensional may hurt his stock, and project him as more of a 2nd-3rd line RW.

I hope the comments that Holland is trying to renegotiate Smiths contract is just an attempt to raise the price tag. If not, this season is going to be the norm going forward. Signing middle of the road NHL players to long contracts is not a great strategy in regards to a rebuild. What's scary is I don't think the organization believes a rebuild is needed.

This is exactly the type of thinking that got the organization into the situation it's in. He would get more than a 5th, more likely a 3rd. It would be a terrible idea to tie up more significant cap space on a 3rd pairing defenseman during a rebuild. Let alone they have to structure raises to AA, Mantha, Larkin, and Jensen.
