He's one of the 4 best players on this team? Really? Who are the 3 ahead of him? What's your point? We had a losing season. That means most of the team will be minus.... AA had the worst plus/minus of any regular. Which isn't surprising as he's known for cheating on defense. Who was plus last year? Zetterberg, Nielsen, Helm, and Dekeyser. Which isn't surprising, they're probably our 4 most defensively responsible players.

That was his best series sure, but he dominated the playoffs 3 years in a row as the stats show. So AA can take over games with his explosiveness? Really? Why hasn't he done so? 16 goals and 33 pts last year... You know who else got 16 goals and 33 pts last year? Frans Nielsen. And no, I wouldn't call him someone who takes over games either. Thought ppl would have learned that fact after Darren Helm. Breakaways are great and all, but a lot of the rest of his game is lacking. Which is not surprising, we've been warned about it since his junior days. 187 goals in 602 games is REALLY good for an NHL player. AA hasn't had much of a chance to see the playoffs yet, and maybe he can kick it on in the playoffs like Franzen could in his heyday, but I seriously doubt it. The only other guy I can remember who could turn it up in the playoffs like Franzen could was Danny Briere. It's what made Briere and Franzen rare/special players. Athanasiou literally had only 2 game-winning goals last season. If you have stats on game-tying goals please share. I can't think of many offensively minded players more different than AA and Franzen... AA can dangle you out of your pants, Franzen couldn't dangle at all. Franzen would actually win board battles, AA loses them left and right. AA is one of the fastest skaters in the league, Franzen was an average to below average skater at best. Franzen would play in front of the net, AA hardly does. Franzen was very underrated defensively, AA cheats on defense all the time. Literally the only thing they have in common is being Red Wings and having a decent wrister. Otherwise they're completely different players. Until AA gets a chance at the playoffs lets keep it real. In skill level they are 100% comparable, both skilled players one difference being size which the other makes up in speed. AA and Franzen are waaaaayyyyyy more comparable to Dats and Mule. That's a can a worms I don't even want to have trolled into Yes, and I don't see why this is hard to understand. Everyone is so enthralled by his break-aways, we forget that the rest of his game is severely lacking, and he certainly isn't putting up the offensive numbers to prop up those shortcomings. This notion that he is somehow a game-changer/put-the-team-on-my-back kinda player is laughable. -
So Zadina will defiantly be in the AHL this year. I'd bet on it.

2007-2008 playoffs: 4 multi-point games, 5 games without a point, for a total of 18 points in 16 games, 13 of which were goals. He also finished with the most game-winning goals of the playoffs. Absolutely dominant playoff run, even for a superstar caliber player. 2008-2009 playoffs: 6 multi-point games, 7 games without a point, for a total of 23 points in 23 games, 12 of which were goals. He also finished tied for the most game-winning goals in the playoffs. Absolutely dominant playoff run, even for a superstar caliber player. 2009-2010 playoffs: 2 multi-point games, 0 games without a point, for a total of 18 points in 12 games, 6 of which were goals. Absolutely dominant playoff run, even for a superstar caliber player. 2008-2010 totals: 12 multi-point games, 12 games without a point, for a total of 59 points in 51 games, 31 of which were goals I'll let the numbers speak for themselves. They're better than Datsyuk's during the same time frame. Before you begin your hateful tirade about Franzen, I'd like to swing back to the original point... AA has never taken over a road trip, he's never taken over a home series's, he doesn't score multi-point games on a consistent basis, hell he hardly scores at all. Not playing defense to get a breakaway is not "taking over a game". Franzen and AA are hardly comparable at all. -

Take over games?? Franzen took over entire playoff series, one after the other, for multiple consecutive seaons. Last year AA had only 7 multi-point games total. Only one of which was a game with more than 2 points (3), and only two of which with more than 1 goal (2 for each). AA is exciting to watch, but he does not by any means take over games. At this point in time he isn't even good enough to hold non-prime Franzen's jock strap -
The Hockey Guy analyzes the the Wings. Decent watch/listen if you've got the time. I like this guy, tend to agree with him on most things too.

Franzen was much better even after 2010 than AA will probably ever be -
From what Holland is saying Sulaks name is very much in the hat. Cholo, Hicketts, Sulak, and Hronek will all be fighting each other for the same spot. Would love if someone like Sulak stole the spot.

Samuelsson at least had prior chemistry with Stephen Weiss and David Booth in Florida.

If the kid works out it's because of Steve Yzerman and Jim Nill If he doesn't, Andersson and Holland will have to beg my forgiveness

I think after the first season with Vanek, the team realized we can totally just replace Tatar or Nyquist with this guy for cheaper

He has an NTC. Doesn't want to be moved at the deadline again.

Interesting take on a Faulk trade -
[PAYWALL] Otto Kivenmaki - Datsyuk 2: Electric Boogaloo Athletic article on our 7th round pick from this draft. The jist, since there's a paywall: He's a 5'8" 137 lb Finn that no other team had on their radar. The Wings on the other hand were captivated by the kid. He was consistently the most noticeable player on the ice every time they watched him play because of his speed, skill, and tenacity. Despite his small stature, he looked completely at home playing against guys that were a whole foot taller than him. He's quick, agile, elusive, and thus very hard to hit. Because no other teams were watching him, he could end up like a Datsyuk steal style pick. Back in the 90's Europe was the untapped market for players that the Wings were one of the first to exploit. I'm starting to think short-players may be the new frontier. The Wings at least seem more keen on short players recently... guys that may be getting overlooked because of their size. Anyway, it's beyond doubtful he ever comes near what Datsyuk accomplished, but a boy can dream...

Karlsson just started following Stammer's private twitter account... The deal is all but confirmed. Likely they need a 3rd party to make the deal - which will definitely be a complicated transaction - work.
