I actually think he may take even less. Here me out. Green has been pretty upfront about wanting to be in Detroit with his family for the foreseeable future. That he loves it here. And the rumor throughout the deadline was he only approved two teams for trade (Washington and Tampa) and blocked a deal to Toronto. The man is clearly demonstrating that he wants to stay here. Try to get him in on one of those Detroit discounts we used to talk/joke about players taking to play here. 5 years at 3 million? 15 million evaluation to finish his career... not much different than say 4 mil for 3 years, then 2 more years at 1.5. Again a 15 year evaluation, but obviously you're committing to term in exchange for 1 mil in cap saving. Maybe he even takes less for that term and an NTC, who knows?

Looks like everyone here is pretty happy about this trade, and the collective response I'm hearing from other fans of other teams is that this was one of the most, if not the most, lopsided trade of the deadline. That Vegas got fleeced. This is good. Now everyone say one nice thing about Holland

This is all just speculation. Is Mrazek the easier contract to move and that's why Holland traded him? Maybe Is Howard the better goalie, and who Holland preferred to keep, and that's why Mrazek was traded? Maybe Does Holland have the emotional stability and spitefulness of a 5 year old, and traded Mrazek because of negotiations a few years ago? Maybe Is Mrazek utter cancer in the locker-room and that's why he was traded? Maybe Did Holland just wanna get what he could for a guy he knew would hit UFA in the summer? Interesting. I see Howard is valued as a 1st, possibly a 2nd with lottery protection. But Mrazek was a 4th, possibly a 3rd or 2nd with playoff performance. I wonder which goalie is better

I don't know that Smith will get recalled. NYR added some young Dmen at the deadline and are currently sitting with 8 Dmen on their roster not counting Smith. He's less than worthless, he's a burden on their franchise.

Always liked Tatar. In an earlier era he would have been a great 2nd line player. But business is business. Glad he got a huge return. He'll be remembered fondly because of it.

If we are in the same losing situation next year, I'm not opposed to moving Howard.

Best to move that particular contract during the month of December 2018

Tatar has significant term left on his contract. I don't see this as a move towards a 2018 cup, I see this as them acquiring a building block for the next 3+ years
