I agree, and yeah they won the trade value-wise. We were looking for short-term gain at the sacrifice of the future. I wouldn't be mad if somehow Jarnkrok came back, but I see him as a career 3rd line center, not exactly something we are in need of. There are lots of other players I would look at first.

Yeah because he's a Michigan native and combine beast, I saw a lot of Wings fans around the web suggesting we trade down like we did to get Mantha and Bertzuzzi. Give up the 9th and take Norris and someone else as late 1st rounders. However, his draft stock might have rose quite a bit after the combine. Before the combine I know he was seen as a late 1st, early 2nd type guy. Could be different now.

One thing I've read about Necas is that he has been consistently able to add weight when asked to, which is promising. Perhaps we can bulk this kid up like Rod Brind'Amour.

I posted that article. Source was a Vegas scout who mentioned that the team was considering that strategy, because, for a lot of teams, best player available will be a goalie. I think it's a smart strategy on a case by case basis. You have to take a player from Detroit, so why not take the most valuable player available? Thats probably going to be Howard in Detroit. So then you turn around and flip Howard for a better Dman than Sproul, or a better forward than Helm, or the draft picks you want.
