I have never thrown an octopus, just never had any need or desire too... leave it to the pros I figure but if we sold out our traditions to the busy bodies at PETA, I would start throwing them -

Yeah PETA can suck it. If I buy a dead cephalopod, I can eat it, throw it on the ice, or dress it up and have a tea party with 9 tea cups. What happens between a man and his octopus is his own business. -
