I certainly wouldn't mind trading Nyquist for an upgrade at defense. But he is well worth the contract he signed, and is underutilized on this team. Zetterberg, Nielsen, and Tatar all average more ice time per game than Gus, yet he's outscoring both Nielsen and Tatar. For pete sake even Helm averages more shifts per game than Nyquist does. If Nyquist was given the ice time he deserves he'd be scoring more and you wouldn't have your underwear in a such a bunch. If we traded him to a team like Pittsburgh he'd instantly become a Hart candidate.

People forget this. A winning culture is why some teams consistently flounder no matter what they do, while other teams seem to consistently find success with ease. We were the later, and I'd like to preserve that culture as best as possible throughout a rebuild. I do not want to become pre-McD Edmonton. Z is a warrior. I think that's debatable. Both have little to no skill. However Mcilrath more than uses his size and strength, whereas Ericsson hardly does. New Dylan also has a phenomenally better cap hit.

He's 24, so yes there's still room for him to grow into a Scott Stevens type. People around here were claiming Smith still had room to grow when he was 27. If that's the logic then New Dylan has like 3 more years before his window closes.
