Spoke to some LA fans who enlightened me a bit on the state of their team. I guess when Quick went down and Budaj came in the team completely changed their systems. That is they locked it down defensively, sacrificing a lot of offense. From what i understand Quick is very good at playing the puck outside the net and stopping breakaways. This insurance allows their D men to join the rush and overall make more aggressive offensive plays. Budaj rarely plays the puck outside the net and is not the breakaway stopper Quick is. So the team buttoned down the hatches and reverted to a defensive grinding style. This is why Budaj has had a career year numbers wise, the team gave him tons of support. Now Quick is back, but hes been out a long time and probably has some rust. His groin is becoming a real issue health wise. And they have a lot of back to back games coming up, with no room for error if theyre going to make the playoffs. Long story short, Bish allows there team to return to a more up tempo scoring style and can take some of the work load off Quick. And they didnt have to sacrafice much to bring him in. So perhaps a goalie will fix their scoring issues?

Ill believe it when I see it on Smith. Still confident Ken will make the right decision here. My guess is initial offers for him were low (they should be) and now the Wings brass are trying pump his tires. IMO this strategy wont work, and he'll get dealt for a 4th or something at the end of the day Wednesday. Filppula, Tyler Johnson, and Quincey all seem to have entered rumor talks. Has anyone checked out the Burrows trade? They gave up prospect jonathan Dahlen for a 36 yo Burrows straight up. I think Ottawa got robbed. Eerily similar to the Forsberg/Erat trade in my mind.

Ok, now you've changed the argument. All I said was the vast majority of trades go down on deadline day. Am I wrong? Last year Russell, Boedker, Tanguay, Maroon, Mcginn, and Liles were all moved on deadline day. Those aren't superstars, but they also aren't scrubs. One of the biggest trades was Eric Staal and that went down the day before the deadline (tomorrow). The only big trade that came early was the Ladd trade. But by all means freak out.

I checked, and it was in fact the case. 16 trades on deadline day. In the 6 days leading up to deadline day there was 16 trades combined for all 6 days. So yes, even last year, the majority of trades go down on deadline day. This year will most likely be no different from that common norm. Lawton reporting that the Pens and Caps are in a bidding war for Shattenkirk at the moment

Last year was indeed an odd year. Which day had more trades than deadline day?

I get the worry, but most of the trades end up going down on the Deadline Day, March 1st. We still have 2+ days till then. Although the league has been active earlier this year it seems like.

If they had claimed him on waivers he would have to start in the NHL or pass through waivers again to go to the AHL. Because he was traded for he can now go directly to the AHL. Since he's passed through waivers, the Coyotes can send him down and call him up for the next 10 games/30 days, which gives them some added flexibility going into the deadline. Seeing as they didn't really give up anything significant in return anyways, it's a bit better to acquire him in a trade after he's passed waivers than it would've been yesterday off waivers.

Just wanted to mention Pulks cleared waivers today. Thought we might submit a claim, but apparently we didn't. Minny fans saying the same things we said. Doesn't have the skill set of a bottom 6 player. Doesn't have enough talent to be a top 6 player.

Yeah we have too much secondary scoring. They would compliment a team with high end talent nicely. We don't have high end talent. Thus I'm thinking they should be moved for the highest end D man we can get.

I'm for keeping Sheahan. Don't know what is up with him this year, but he's proven to be a solid forward in the past, and should get better with age if he can put this hiccup season behind him.

Arizona is shopping Duclair. Minnesota apparently almost had a deal done for E. Kane, but fell through. Probably decided theyd rather have Hanzal. Also sounds like Doan isnt moving per usual. Little surprised there hasnt been more rumors on Vanek, but im confident there will be takers.

The thought process is selecting based on value, not need. And because lots of good goalies will be available to them, unlike with other positions, draft goalies, hoarde them, and exchange them this summer for the players Vegas actually wants. Sounds smart on paper, but i think the other GMs will just stand pat till the season starts knowing they cant operate with 7 goalies, forcing prices down. Thoughts? Guy may just be blowing smoke.

Im starting to think both he and Tatar need to go. They're basically Hudler and Filppula. They're not ever going to be the next euro twins. And I dont like Gus's diving or the face spear. Brings shame to that logo on the front of his jersey. And I didn't like some of Tatar's belly aching early in his career or the reports of him staying up all night partying in the condo he was renting from Helm a while back. Not saying guys need to be perfect, but when your losing these things start to weigh on my mind. Probably just used to having high quality gentleman like Lidstrom and Datsyuk, but still, if they can be moved for a high quality Dman at this point Im for it. Blow this team up. Losing sucks and I hate it.
