There's a difference between being a "hands off" owner and not caring. Just because the Illitches don't appear to be micromanaging the team, doesn't make them indifferent. I would prefer this approach over a Jerry Jones or a George Steinbrenner or Al Davis. The junior Illitches may be less involved than their father was, but that doesn't mean they aren't. I doubt that anyone with millions of dollars to lose doesn't give a Kardashian butt about their business investments. Besides, if Blashill is fired, Holland would do it. Green is a much better defenseman. A good offensive 2nd pair D. Dekeyser may be at the low end for 2nd pair D talent-wise currently, but 5 mil or 6, that's what I would expect considering what top pair guys make now.

As well as Kane has been playing, I think there's a good chance they re-sign him instead. They could sign Tavares, but they already have Pavelski and Couture as their 1 and 2 centers. JT would be redundant. They could move one of them to the wing if they signed JT, but Kane is cheaper, and has already established chemistry there. I would rather keep a guy who's 28, a 1.8 mil cap hit, 4th line and PK contributor, RH center who's a known commodity (although not spectacular), over an absolute long shot. I am not saying don't trade him, but unless it's for a good return, I wouldn't.

This. Ericsson is a 7th round draft pick who is a 4/5 defenseman. DeKeyser is an undrafted free agent who CAN be a 2nd pair guy who is struggling under less than stellar coaching. What is there to complain about here?

Not holding out much hope for Saarajarvi? Why trade him for that? At 1.8 AAV he's not really hurting the cap situation. He's a 28 year old RH C who's a good 4th liner and penalty killer. His faceoff pct has gone up every year and is currently at just below 59%. That's invaluable for PK and defensive zone faceoffs. I'm not saying he's worth a 2nd, and I would trade him for the right price; but a 5th rounder is way less than what he's worth. I wouldn't take a 4th either. Compared to what other 4th liners are making, I don't really see a need to trade him unless its an overpayment. You're not wrong. I think its better than a 50% chance he re-signs there. I just don't think that anyone other than some Wings fans see this team as an undesirable destination. Nielsen, Daley, and Green may not be superstars, but they're still really good players that chose Detroit over other options. They wouldn't do that if this team was a total dumpster fire. This franchise is still very respected which is why they are in the running for just about every big name free agent even now.
