Pornman is writing about young boys: college, chl and euro free agents. At the top of the list he puts:
Quote1. Collin Graf, RW, Quinnipiac-ECAC
Graf was a major part of Quinnipiac’s NCAA title run last spring and has been a top player in the country again this season. He has a ton of offensive talent and has the potential to score in the NHL. He is a very skilled puckhandler who skates well and can create on the move like a pro. He sees the ice well, can run a power play with quick decisions, and has a good shot as well. His game can lack physicality at times and stick too much to the perimeter, which is my only concern about him, but I wouldn’t call him soft or a low-compete type. He is a player a lot of NHL teams will have interest in, and he could be a legit middle-six wing in the league. Last spring, the Red Wings were rumored to have gotten close to signing Graf before he decided to go back to school.
Anybody know anything about this dood?

If you look back at the first round Rasmussen is roughly the 8-12 best player and we took him with the 9th pick. Hischier, Heiskanen, Makar, Pettersson, Necas, Suzuki, and Robert Thomas are all definitely better Oettinger, Mittelstadt, Tippet, Vilardi are all roughly as good, so it's a pick your poison type situation when Detroit gets to the podium.
Obviously in real life Necas was still available, but there were questions about Necas on draft day or he wouldn't have fallen to 12th OA. In a redraft he probably goes fifth. But I don't think Ras is a "miss". He's probably the 9th or 10th best player and we got him with the 9th pick. People are obviously welcome to prefer different players, but he was selected basically where he should have been.
Kind of what I’m thinking; if we picked Suzuki at 9, I doubt Ras would have fallen back where Suzuki was picked.

Holland went full size queen in that draft. Not mad about him picking Ras though.

1 minute ago, kipwinger said:Exactly. And if you have a David Savard you should ALWAYS trade him for a 1st.
Its basically the anti-Holland methodology

I like it. Only if you have a(one) glaring hole on your roster should you trade a 1st round pick. But if we go by your thinking you should have a couple of extra 1st’s to fix that anyways.
GMs are out there spending top picks on players line David Savard. That should never ever be done.

If there ever was such a GM, Steve might be it.

Keep the 1st round picks. I like the Barrons and Kesselrings better. This teams trajectory is looking great. Crack the playoffs, get some experience. Draft a ASP-like steal in the middle first round and inject more young studs into the roster for next season and keep on moving up.
Cup window opens soon. Thats when we start dealing 1st round picks. Until then: only bong rips and smooth sailing.

Whatever the Wings do, Steve better not waste any real assets on bringing in a goalie.

Time travel back to before we signed him. Let's say right after we faceplanted in the Stadium Series.
"Bro. We sign Kane. And, bro? Believe me when I tell you this: You're gonna be begging for two or three more years of him. I s*** you not. End of February, the game in Chicago - circle that on your calendar. Dude wins it in OT, on a breakaway, from center ice. That makes it 11 goals and 28 points for him through 27 games played. (He gets hurt on January 14, misses some time, comes back even better.) Eight-game point streak for him. And it puts the Wings at 70 points through 58 games played. The team's fifth win in a row. First wild card spot. A point ahead of Tampa, with two games in hand. Bro, believe me, bro."
I think I posted exactly this. Let me go back and check..

IMO, I'm excited to see if Chia can replicate what he did for the Habs in the playoffs. He's having a very solid year as our #4 Dman. I'm ready for him to elevate even higher.
I acknowledged earlier that he has elevated himself from absolute suckage.
Never hated Ras. Seider? C’mon. What are you talking about, habibi?
