Top Swiss-leaguer Brunner to sign with Wings, Babcock has big plans

Great low-risk signing. Doesn't give Kenny permission to go golfing July 1st though.- 139 replies

I've thought about Montoya. He'd be a low-risk, high-reward type. In the Dan Cleary vein. I bet he'd come cheaper than 1.5 M considering his salary and his numbers last year.

Say what? The only similarity is nationality. Pulkkinen is a slow, defensively questionable, shoot-first sniper. Filpulla is a fast, elite defensive forward, who needs to be emotionally black mailed into shooting the puck. Also, IMO Detroit would need to offer Filpulla, one of Nyquist/Smith/Jarnkrok, and a 2nd. And that won't happen.

But, but, how's everyone going to fit Parise, Suter, Doan, Semin, and Garrison on CapGeek now that Helm's making $2,100,000?

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120618/SPORTS0103/206180395/1128/rss16 Custance thinks the Wings will go hard after this kid. Take ESPN with a grain of salt.

Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?
rick zombo replied to Yzerman191's topic in General
I think Minnesota has to be included in that list. I know it's obvious, but the "home town" angle shouldn't be overlooked. Plus, his dad played there during the North Stars days. He's 27. Maybe he envisions them winning in the next 5 years. To be honest, if Suter signs in Detroit, then Parise is either a Red Wing, or a Wild <- looks funny. My darkhorse Parise teams: St Louis, Carolina, Boston, San Jose. edit If you google "zach parise" these are the top three results: zach parise zach parise contract zach parise red wings -
Not a huge fan of Jokinen, but he could center the second line. Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Franzen Filpulla - Jokinen - Nyquist Better than last year.............

I don’t think there’s a thread on this? And I don’t think it’s too early. Not to jinx LA or anything. Predictions?

Stuart was always professional. I think you’re being too harsh. My only criticism of Stuart was he was a little too mellow for a physical D-man, for lack of a better description. Plug that #3-4 position with someone a little more hateful to play against. Even Quincey has more edge to his game. That being said, I really liked Stewie. He was steady, from all reports an amazing team-mate, and worked hard. He won’t be easy to replace. Best of luck Brad!!!!

favorite wing never to win the cup in Detroit

I wonder how high of a draft pick the Wings could get by trading that combo?
-
You know, we talk about plenty of pointless things here on LGW. Traditionally there’s always a Conn Smyth thread, regardless of how close the race is. Why should this year be any different?

The gallows will be full and swinging while, newly acquired Red Wings, Mikael Samuelsson and Dustin Penner decide what numbers to wear.
-
Just watch, all the good ones will be gone by July 1st. If Parise and Suter re-sign, all hell will break loose.
-
meh. I was kind of hoping that Nashville would strap themselves to that loser, making it harder to re-sign Suter. But Poile's too smart for that.

Normally, this would be Holland's style for sure. But becuase of increasing parity and given the price last spring for Guastad and considering that a guy like Moen wasn't even moved at all, I could see Holland addressing this need sometime this summer. What I could see Holland doing is aggressively going aftre the 2 defensemen and a top six forward on July 1st, then waiting for bargains later in the summer to fill the back-up goalie position and get that bottom six grinder.

If you're referring to the quotes I highlighted from the mlive article above then part of the quotes are the writer's editorial comments and the parts inside the little " " things are direct quotes from Holland, just to clarify.

2012 SCF : Los Angeles Kings vs. New Jersey Devils
rick zombo replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Yes, good luck to the Kings tonight. Embarass NJ and drive Parise this way. In fact, I'm sure MR. Illitch could arrange to have Red Bird II fully fueled and waiting for Zack at LAX. -
If I could physically lift a Bank, I'd throw it at Weber for sure.

Some good stuff in here: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2012/06/red_wings_48.html A few of my favorite excerpts: All in all, nothing new really. But still worth reading.

Vokoun moved to Pittsburgh for a 7th Round pick.
rick zombo replied to Diluvian04's topic in General
Better than him going to Chicago I suppose. -
Greene and Laich would easily combine for 30 goals, same as Franzen + Kindl, if that's what you're worried about.
