Guy sucks.  Colin must have bought a jersey when YzerSCAM signed him, so sorry about that.  But this guy is 5 times as bad as Filip Zadina and should be getting whipped like a motherf v cker around here.  Colin has a pretty good track record of not fanboying into COMPLETE TRASH players and giving them rope (Smith, Kindl, Mantha, Zadina), so my frustration with this issue is compounded by his getting his panties all wet over Ben.  He's a good troll, but I think he honestly believes Chiarot is a good defender.  It's baffling.

Chiarot plays more minutes than every D man not named Seider.

This is why we're not in the playoffs.

Takes more Dzone starts than every defender on the team, including Seider.

The puck is iced more often while he's on the ice by a large margin.

Is #2, behind Seider, in both hits and blocked shots.

He stands in the way watching the puck and doesn't help get the puck out of our zone BEFORE shots come at him.

Has a better +/- than Seider, despite scoring far less.

Seider suffers when paired with Chiarot.

And he runs the 2nd PK unit, with Petry and Ed swapping as his partner.

He runs the 2nd PK unit into Goals Against.

He's easily the #2 Dman on this team, and he has two more seasons under contract.

Him being on the 2nd pairing and getting lots of minutes cost us a playoff season.

Rant and rave all you like, he's not going anywhere with that usage by his coach.

Neither are the Red Wings.  Notice how we're NOT in the playoffs?

So smarten up and start yelling about Derek on every thread you want to derail with the same topic.

Derek has to play the players he's given.  YzerSCAM signed the TRASH, and he has to play them.  He can't just scratch Chiarot, Petry, and Husso.  They're TRASH, but there's an order to things if you want to keep your job in a company.  As fans, we can't do anything about YzerSCAM and LaDUMB playing TWO TRASH DEFENSEMEN 20 minutes a night.  But we can at least recognize that one thing keeps happening while those 20 minutes are going on - The Red Wings chase the opponents' cycles in our own end, the TWO TRASH DEFENSEMEN continually turn the puck over or ice it (this is why they have high D Zone Start and shot block stats, btw - not because they're so dependable and rock solid at blocking shots), and we take penalties or get scored on.

Start watching the games next year, Colin.  You'll come around.

Ah I thought he meant AJo could make the team, but he would only assign him if he's not going back down. This makes better sense.

So we definately need to trade Maata and buyout Holl then no?

    Mo + Walman + Chiarot + Petry + Edvinsson + AJo = 6

Won't have room to add Matt Roy if we don't. And we need a another RHer that defends better than Petry

I actually think we need to trade Seider, Walman, Edvinsson, Maatta, and THEN buy out Holl AND Petry.

    Chiarot's Agent - Chiarot

    Chiarot by himself

    Chiarot-Chiarot's Agent

1st PP - Chiarot by himself.

2nd PP - Chiarot and Chiarot's agent with goalie pulled

1st PK - Chiarot in net by himself.

2nd PK - Chiarot's agent in net and Chiarot

I'm not a huge fan of Petry at all. But Newsy deploys him as a top4 Dman on this team. Because of that, I have a hard time seeing El Captain buying him out or giving up picks to trade him. I think the best we can hope is Yzerman trades Maata and we bring in another RHD, via that trade or UFA, to force Petry out of the top4.

With Holl I expect a buy out, or giving up a pick to offload him, is coming. Since we didn't get any extra picks at the deadline, I'm thinking buyout. It'll be a 4 year buyout, but the hit isn't that bad IMO. Like 1-1.5 mil per year if I recall correctly.

I'm not a fan of ghost. I'm a big believer in having a D core where all 6 defenders can defend. Ghost doesn't fit that bill. He's heavily deployed in the offensive and neutral zone, and not the Dzone. And Newsy only uses him 15 min a night at even strength, which equates to the deployment of a #6 Dman.

The upside of Ghost? He puts up sexy point numbers. And that comes from huge minutes on the PP. He's a top 10 PP QB in this league for sure.

However, despite all this PP time, nearly 60 pts on the season, and most deployments outside of the DZone, he has the worst +/- on the team, at -16. In theory a guy like this should be Uber positive on the +/-.

I like what he brings to the PP, but you can't even really call this guy a "puck mover" who helps the forwards score, since he hardly plays even strength minutes. And more than half his point were scored on the PP.

It's hard to justify paying 5 million a year to a bottom pair Dman that gets scored on a lot, doesn't hit, and doesn't block shots. I would prefer not to have anybody on the team like this at all, but if we must, a PP specialist like this would have to make far less for me to be comfortable.

Philly should have converted him to forward years ago. In the end, we need to afford Edvinsson the responsibility of the 2nd PP unit as well. Ghost blocks that. Eddog won't be as good as ghost at this next season, but it's important for his development as a player.

I agree with Yzerman and Newsy on the team defense. We had an extremely high goals for average, and extremely high goals against average, whether it was any 3 of the goalies playing. Many of the players commented that they have to get away from "trying to outscore their problems" and commit to to a better team defense as well. I got the impression this was something really bothering Yzerman. He made sure to drive the point home. I think we will be rolling Husso/Lyon again next year. If only because they chose to Husso to be one of the players to address the media for exit interviews. You wouldn't be doing that to/for a guy you're buying out.

Kane walking would be an irreplaceable blow. But we can semi replace it with Berggren and others, and continued growth from Raymond + Rasmussen. Like I said about our goals for and against, we can afford to sacrifice some scoring to get better at defense. And based on the interview Yzerman had, this seems to be something he wants to happen. Furthermore, both Newsy and Yzerman talked about the team getting younger next season. Kane is the opposite of that. Not that Yzerman wouldn't want to keep him, but he probably doesn't want to commit to the term Kane needs to be happy.

The team took a huge step in terms of development this year. It's a good time to bring our young budding prospects up to participate in this new found confidence, and also hopefully absorb the lessons learned from this year's ultimate defeat from the rest of the guys. Yzermans comments about adding Berg and AJo make me think think this is the direction he will head.

I think this offseason will be more uneventful than past years in terms of additions. With new contracts for Mo and Ray being the primary goal.

Based on the totalality of my comments, my best prediction for the season is this:

    Kane, Ghost, Sprong become UFA

    Perron and Fischer re-signed

Maata traded for something (at some point)

    Holl bought out

Matt Roy (or a Dman of similar caliber) signed

Berggren recalled and AJo (at some point) recalled

And one of Soderblom, Kasper, Mazur, or Czarnik recalled to play a more semi active roll.

Not super exciting. But IMO Yzerman will want to move away from mass free agents signing at this point, and start to clear room for his prospects instead, to develop internally through the draft. Something he's always preached. This may mean a step backward next year, but I think it will be better for our long term goals. And I say may, because I think we can still stumble into the playoffs with these moves. The players grew as a team tremendously this year and they all seem to know exactly what they need to do now to get to where they want next year. I think we will see a team that plays better cohesively as a unit, with better commitment to systems and defense, and not so many wild up and down winning and losing streaks, despite the loss of major offensive talents in Ghost and Kane. Consistincey and confidence will become king.

I love how you continue to ignore the GLARING BLATANT OBVIOUS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES IF YOU WATCH THE GAMES PROBLEM - BEN F V C K ING CHIAROT.  Let's get rid of a guy that played the last 30 games as an even player with Maatta and actually IS the 2nd best puck mover on defense that we have.  While I would play Edvinsson over Gost in OT every single time because I think Edvinsson is equally adept on offense and a much better defender, the fact remains that our coaching staff put Gost out there each time after or before Seider.  Why?  Because that's the one thing he's good at - moving the puck.  Holl = +8, best corsi for out of all our defensemen.  Passed the eyeball test when paired with Maataa.  Zero reason to get rid of Holl until Tuomisto and/or ASP are ready to step in.  Petry we're 100% in agreement on.  He has to go.  What you're doing with Chiarot, though, is the equivalent of blaming Rasmussen, Perron, Veleno, and Berggren while skipping over Filip Zadina.  It's that bad.

  5. I think there's a real good chance that Kane stays.  I think he and Debrincat have a relationship that's a lot more meaningful than a lot of us realize.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Kane take a 4 year, 5 mil per deal to play out his last 4 years with his buddy.  Detroit is nicely situated between his hometowns of Chicago and Buffalo, and he is going to get the ice time he wants on our team due to our lack of talent up front.  If I'm Yzerman, I'm saying we want you, but we can't give you 2015 Kane type money.  If you can take 2024 Kane type money, you can have it for 4 years.  Of course, Kane and his agent are pros.  They're not going to turn down 10 mil per for 4 years if another club (Columbus) offers it.  That's why they've been hush and saying the typical things through the end of the season.

Well what Yzerman said exactly is he thinks both Johansson and Berggren are close to ready for full time duty, but both have to earn their spot, it will not be handed to them. And he continues by saying both will be waiver eligible next year, and he does not believe either of them would clear waivers today. So essentially they have to come up and be ready for a full 82 game season. No more weekend AHL business.

IMO Kane was Berggrens stop gap. He's probably gonna make the team out of camp and stay there.

Johansson I'm not sure will. We might not see him until injuries pile up or the TDL.

Ghost, and probably Holl, won't be on this team next season. Leaving Maata and Johansson to fight for the 7th spot.

    There really isn't any logjam.

Raymond was an animal.  The rest of the team struggles with this.  Too slow and/or too soft.

They are terrible.  I'd rather have a couple of rookies making no more mistakes than those 2 jokers... atleast they'd have potential.

Love it.  Johansson - Tuomisto probably brutal for a year, but get them the reps they need to improve.

But those were his exact words.

Also I wasn't pointing at you directly, I was just saying all the name calling back and forth was not necessary.

Also, I always said "I think" and "I believe" or "IMO" I definitely never claimed to interpret his words as "a matter of fact." But he did say, exactly his choice will depend on where he fits on the team and who he plays with. He may have been referring to 32 teams, but I believe he was mostly talking about Detroit.

You can still have Kane and get younger. You don't re-sign Sprong, Fischer, Reimer, and trade a D along with buying out Petry. If he replaces 2 of those players with Berggren and Johansson along with promoting Edvinsson full time, Detroit gets much younger.

I'm not getting into arguments or name calling, that hasn't been me for a very long time. I'm just going to say, I believe and I hope he comes back.

But mostly I hope that, in whatever way, the team gets upgraded.

    Bro, Quit Feeding.  Youre good.

    Now you think you heard?

Look my Woodward friend, I have not been arguing with you about what you think, or I think. I've been pointing out to you what EXPLICITLY was said.

And he did not say hes hoping to be a Red Wing next year, just as he did not say he's definately testing free agency. I do not care what you believe, and I havent been trying to convince you of a different point of view. I'm taking issue with you misquoting the interview to make it seem different than it was.

There's a tremendous difference between "Dcat said he thinks Kane's coming back" and "Dcat said Kane chose us last year for a reason, I, 13dangledangle, think Kane's coming back". I would have drawn zero issue with the later.

If you initially paraphrased badly, just say so and move on. Jeezus.

Don't point your finger at me, it's plain to see who immedately resorted to slurs...

As I explained to 13dangledangle above, extrapolate whatever you like from these interviews, but don't tell everyone Kane said something that he absolutely did not. It's dishonest.

In regards to your first point, I think Kane knows where he stands. He's easily the 2nd best forward on this team. And probably the most talented as well. He'll continue to play with Larkin/Raymond/Dcat until his body breaks down significantly.

The area of concern for Kane, I think, (SEE HOW YOU CAN POINT OUT WHEN SOMETHING IS YOUR OWN THOUGHT AND NOT A DIRECT QUOTE) is that Yzerman chose not to add at the deadline. Kane doesn't have 5-7 years to wait for the Yzerplan to come to full fruition. He likely expected to receive additional support and it didn't come...

Then, if any of you watched the Lalonde and Yzerman exit interviews, they both talk about how the team is probably going to be younger next year. El Captain talks about adding Berggren and even Johansson to roster next season.

Personally, I think Yzerman knows he can't break from the plan and give Kane the the term and money he wants, and the two have already wished each other well on their future endeavors.

Or ya know, maybe I'm just a retarded idiot? :bye:

    BORING

When Yzerman spoke yesterday I'm not sure why nobody pressed him on the blackholes on defense (Holl, Petry, and Chiarot) that collect over 10 million.

Yah, i feel like Im the only one without a blindfold on regarding Chiarot and Petry.  You seeing it too now, Mackel?

Im ok with Perron at 1.5 mil on a 1 year deal.  He's gotta be ok with up and downs to GR on that deal too, tho.  I think set a great example when he fought back for Larkin.  That incident earned him a place in the red wings organization for as long as he wants, imo.  Might have to transition to off the ice very soon, but I like the guy now.

  12. Shayne Gostisbehere contract is a tough one.  I think we need to commit to him at 4 mil per for term (4-5 years), and then trade him the very second Johansson or Wallinder demonstrate better ability.  I think he will sign elsewhere unless we give him a contract that guarantees him good money until he's 34-35.  Give him a MNTC and let him know the plan upfront so it's all on the up and up.  My RHD depth chart looks like this: Seider, ASP, Holl, Tuomisto, Petry, Gibson, An. Johansson.  My LHD depth chart looks like this: Edvinsson, Maatta, Walman, Gostisbehere, Al. Johansson, Chiarot, Wallinder.  Line up the D this way: Walman-Seider, Edvinsson-ASP, Maatta-Gost.  Sprinkle Johansson and Tuomisto in next year for injuries.  Play Chairot and Petry on the 4th line, and sprinkle in Kasper and Mazur.

So if Yzerman just tells him what his 2024/25 top6 looks like you believe he definately returns?

    LOL

No he wasn’t.  He was asked if he thinks Kane is coming back and he said well he did pick to come to Detroit to begin with so why would he not come back is exactly what he was saying.

I agree with this.  But Kane isnt dumb either.  He showed hes still a 30 goal, 40 assist winger.  He's not going to play for Rasmussen money.

Kane effortlessly scoring that season ending shootout goal to no celebration perfectly encapsulates the season and his time here. He's gonezo

Kane scored more goals in 50 games than Zadina got in 250.
