This is exactly why the Nucks traded Poolman to the Avs yesterday. By dumping Poolman they no longer have any players on LTIR and can start to acrue cap space. By the TDL they will likely have acrued more space than Poolman would've given them on LTIR. The Avs on the other hand already have doods on LTIR so it's no bother really to take another. Kinda a whack system if you ask me, I'd prefer the simplicity of a hard cap instead of calculating every teams cap hit everyday. But whatevs. Means nothing really. He cleared waivers today, so he has to be assigned to the Griffs now. He's likely still practicing with the Wings and he'll be a scratch for the Griffs until Derek decides to use him. Which is probably Thursday. I think this because Watson explicitly stated he wanted a 1way NHL contract. He didnt get that, so maybe he caved, or more likely IMO Stevie talked him in to a 2way for cap purposes, with the promise he wouldn't actually be assigned to the Griffs. But I could be wrong and this is to give Kasper a chance to play. If so, Marco would be called up Thursday. Or they don't intend to play Watson until an injury occurs. If either of those are the case we probably should actually send Wats to GR so he can stay in game shape. We'll see Thursday!

I don't agree. Walman and Fowler play a totally different game. Walman is a positional shot blocking Dman that kills penalties, and doesn't offer much in the Ozone besides a really hard shot. Fowler is a puck distrubting PP QB that isn't expected to kill penalties. Their games are totally opposite. It's also pretty clear based on the rumors and comments that Walman was cast out due to lockerroom issues. With that context, acquiring another Dman isn't so absurd. However Ducks would have to take someone like Maata back in a deal IMO. We also got Kiiskanen back in the Gibson trade. While not as valuable as Gibson, he's still an exciting prospect, and that deal wasn't fruitless. I'd be fine trading for Fowler... but I'd prefer to see how this defense plays first before we start tinkering.

The cRaZy blockbuster I'd want to see is: To ANA: Veleno + Maata + Talbot + Holl + 1st + 2nd To DET: Fowler + Gibson Maata and Talbot would replace Fowler and Gibson for the Duckies. Holl is a cap dump to make the deal work. Veleno and our 1st + 2nd is the positive compensation to them for the upgrade. Cat - Larkin - Ray Tarasenko - JTC - Kane Ras - Copp - Fish Bergs - Kasper - Watson Motte Fowler - Seider Ed - Gustafsson Chiarot - Petry Ajo Gibson/Husso

We may really have something here in MBN... Multiple Norwegian outlets are reporting a "tense" meeting took place between the Wings and MBN and his agent, during which the SY & Co made it clear they want MBN on the Griffs NOW. But that MBN and his agent stood firm on returning to Sweden to play with Skelleftea. Skelleftea is ASP's team. They won the championship last year, and basically kept the entire group together to go for a back to back this year. IMO I'm fine with this path for MBN. He obviously sees a big opportunity to go for a an SHL championship, and that's a good thing. We want guys who want to win, and also have that winning experience under their belt. ASP is coming off an SHL championship, SHL best Dman award, WJC best Dman award, and is HOT to start the season. Injecting MBN unto that team is going to put Skelleftea over the top again, and then the abbreviation brothers can come over together next year with rings on their fingers and chemistry together. But the most positive takeaway is the Wings really wanted to fast track MBN and adjust him to NA ice right away. Sucks it will be one year delayed, but thats huge that they have that much faith in him. IMO his body and shot are already NHL caliber. MBN probably only needs 1 year in the AHL to work on defense and skating in NA rinks before he's ready to dawn the wheel. I predict he's essentially on the same path as Mo ATM, and will debut in his D+3, or 2026/27. BTW, the 2026/27 roster currently looks like this: Cat - Larkin - Ray Ras - Copp - JTC Bergs - Veleno Ed - Mo AJo (No goalies) The fat will be almost all be trimmed, and Danielson, Kasper, Mazur, MBN, ASP, Wallinder, Cossa, and Augustine should all be peppered into the lineup, and we should have a ton of money to spend. The same year Rasmus Andersson will become UFA summer before it starts... Larkin - Danielson - Ray Cat - Kasper - MBN Ras - Copp - JTC Bergs - Veleno - Mazur Ed - Mo Ajo - Andersson Wallinder - ASP Cossa Augustine A talented + youth filled top6 led by 30 year old Larkin, 29 year old Dcat, and still only 24 year old Raymond. A vet shutdown grind line in Ras/Copp/JTC. A young all Swedish defense (minus Mo) led by 30 year old Andersson and still only 25 year old Mo, and 23 year old Ed. Plus two promising young goalies. We gonna be stacked AF

Americans 10 (7 from MI) Swedes 5 Canadians 4 Finns 2 Germans 1 Russians 1 Wings will again this year be the team with the most FREEDOM on their roster. But also the Swedes have once again overtaken the Canadians. "Better to scam in Murica, than plan in Canada" - Yzerman

Just a good time to do it. He's not going to get claimed with so many other players on waivers and teams working out their final rosters. It also saves the Wings 500K, and Watson will be waiver immune for a month if he clears. It's alll paper transaction, he's not actually going to GR, and will be recalled on paper before the first game.

Fuqq yay Watdog. Kasper can either start wrecking shop or wait his fuqqing turn

I don't disagreee. His frequency of injury is high so far in his career. But he's also never had a serious injury or needed surgery. For example, when he split time with Binnington in STL he got injured. But he still managed 40 starts, and played more games than Binnington did. His first season in DET he got injured twice in March, but still managed 56 games. Most goalies don't play that many games a season. Last season was the outlier, but again the two injuries he had were minor. He came back too early from his first injury which caused him to basically have to restart on his recovery time, and then got another minor injury right after finally returning. I wouldn't say he has an injury problem. He just seems to tweak something at least once a season, but he usually recovers from that quickly. It's his last season on this contract, and he has a limited NTC. It's hard to trade a goalie with an NTC because most teams are set in that dept and he can easily block the few that aren't. Just let him finish the year and we can decide to move on or not at that point. Like i said, so far he's been the best in net this year.

Husso was our best goalie in preseason

Sorry I was being regarded

Waivers: Holl, Lagesson, Rafferty, Dries, Snively Still 22 men in the lineup. So another transaction is still being decided.

I've completely 180'ed on him. Because as it turns out, he was secretly the manipulative sociopathic mind game player I've always wanted THIS ENTIRE TIME. First two seasons he was happy funtimes friend coach. Wouldn't even say a negative thing last year when we were blowing huge games on a huge skid. And as a fan it made me want to rip my own hands off. But listen to Derek now. His attitude has shifted so extremely, it's clear he was wearing a mask the first two years. The boys play a decent preseason game and he says stuff like "we lacked spirit, emotion, focus, and it's not acceptable". I'm like hell yea, gloves are finally off, lets go. Friend Derek is dead. It was a ploy to get closer to the players the first 2 seasons. Probably helped him to cut guys like Kostin, Walman, and Fabbri out. Now he's shape shifted into "get your ass in gear or get off my team" Derek, and I like it.

You should watch Newsy's last interview. GR is only 2 hours away. "It's not a big deal 'who makes the the team'"
-
Which means "Apple bottom boys"

For anyone who missed it, this is probably the best Wings clip in years: Big clean hit, then Simon being completely uninterested in beating up a Sens midget. Almost an annoyed "ok calm down little boy" look.

Anyone else noticed we've ONLY won the games that Watson has played in? He's wrecking shop out there. This lineup severely lacks any sort of toughness outside of the physical dominance of Mo and Edvinsson just being plain massive. You'd think this would be a missing element that Derek and Steve would like to find and add, which I assume is why he's here. Now I know what you're gonna say: But look how Derek played Kostin... All I'll say to that is, I suspect there was more going on with Kostin than just "Derek not liking bruisers". Trading Kostin for Simek - a guy who was making way too much money to be playing in the AHL - and 7th at the TDL was beyond strange. Steve didn't need Simek or the 7th. I suspect he was simply unloading a bad character in the room. Verbeek gets to unload cash in Simek and gets a 24 year old troubled project piece in Kostin, and in return Stevie gets a measly 7th... but also cuts out the weakest cancer prior to a potential playoff run. Probably a nod to the teams leaders that he hears their concerns and is behind them, but it's not part of the plan to BUYBUYBUY right now. And of course he would go on to cut fabbri and walman out for nothing a few months later, probably for the same reasons Think about how Kostin came to us as well. Holland said here you can have Kostin and Yammoto for free. He did that for cap space, but Yammoto was a majorly undersized scorer, who wasn't scoring, @ $3.1 million. Kostin was 2 years younger than him, also a former 1st rounder, big, nasty, and just had his first good season. Holland could have chose a number of other guys to package Yammoto with, but he prefered to get rid of Kostin. And now Kostin is on 4th team after 4 years in the league... He's being passed around like a hot potato with an IED made out of aids inside of it. Kostin was also a 24 year old former 1st when he got here, who probably wanted a chance to prove himself and crack a top6. So he may not have been exactly happy to be relegated to 4th-line/13th-forward. Watson on the other hand, he's 32 and he's been doing this for years. He knows his role, and he's BETTER at it than Kostin. He fights more than Kostin does, and he actually blocks shots and defends. His forechecking this preason has been to my liking as well. bUt JiMmY iF kOsTin iS CAnCer sO iS wATsOn, hE BeAT uP hiS GiRLfRieND Watson was arrested at a Tennessee gas station after witnesses reported an alteraction between him and his girlfriend. The altercation began because the couple were on their way to a teammates wedding, and Watson's girlfriend was already so wasted that she didn't want to go anymore. Imagine missing your teammates wedding because your date is too drunk AND YOU HAVEN'T EVEN GOTTEN TO THE WEDDING YET. Nevertheless, Watson, who was sober, admitted to responding officers that he "pushed" his girl and was thus arrested for domestic violence. That girlfriend afterwards issued an apology to the city of Nashville, stating that the entire incident was her fault, there was no domestic violence, and Watson had never abused her, and that she had a serious drinking problem. She later entered AA and Watson and she are now married. TLDR: I think we should sign this guy. How we work him onto the roster at this point IDK, but he said in interviews he's seeking a 1-way contract. It's not an ideal time to explore a trade either. I think Kasper and Edvinsson HAVE to start the season in GR. DCat - Larkin - Ray Tarasenko - JTC - Kane Ras - Copp - Fischer Berggren - Veleno - Watson Motte Chiarot - Seider Gustafsson - Petry Maata - Holl AJo Husso/Lyon/Talbot And that's our 23 man roster to start the season. Kasper and Edvinsson can come up and fill in as soon as the injuries kick in. We would be incredibly deep, and injuries would almost be a complete non-factor with the talent from GR we can inject in. By Christmas we will have a good idea of who want to move out, and what we need to bring in, whether that's outside help or clearing space for Kasper and Ed.

Jack Campbell has entered the player assistance program. Now I know what you're thinking. Why now? Why right when the season is about to start? You had all summer to get sober Jack! Well I'll tell you why. It's NOT because he wants to get paid to F off and do nothing for a few more months. It's because NOBODY gets sober in the summer. NOBODY. Everyone knows that. You're sitting by the lake... it's warm... the twisted teas come out... beautiful gals in bikins... they're drinking twistys too. Can we come on your boat and get twisted with you Jackie?? Then the next day you find out one of them was 16, so you guilt drink martinis. But theyre good martinis. Something a pro athlete can afford. Not that shaken crap. You'll bruise the gin! I'm not drinking bruised gin! So you stir and stir until it's 9 am and you already have that warm glow radiating off of your cheeks. You haven't even had breakfast yet! And before you can count the olives its suddenly preseason again! NOBODY. GETS. SOBER. DURING. SUMMER. Use the PAP. That's what it's for. I don't want to hear any of you mongrels say one negative thing about my man SOUP!

Thank you. I forgot this existed. Gives me chills everytime.

We have Gylander and Gage and Bednar and Lethemon in Toledo
-
Debrincat - Larkin - Raymond Tarasenko - Kasper - Kane Berggren - Danielson - Compher Mazur - Copp - Rasmussen Veleno Chiarot - Seider Edvinsson - Gustafsson Johansson - Holl Wallinder Talbot Cossa Lyon Would we even need to add to that lineup? Just save the money for the TDL and... take another step in the yzerplan
-
Bye bye Motte, Fischer, Maata, Petry, and Husso. Re-sign Kane and Lyon. Promote Kasper, Mazur, Danielson, and Wallinder. Maybe swap Cossa and Lyon between DET and GR. *tents fingers aggressively* "Interesting"
-
If we are looking to clear room for kids, the tradeable pieces with actual value are probably Ras and Berggren IMO. Ras has more immediate value. Berggren would be smarter to trade closer to the deadli e once he's developed more of a reputation in the league.

The issue is the lack of RHers at wing. I wouldn't want Danielson developing at RW, but maybe that's what we're doing? IDK The only RHed wingers on the Griffs are Mazur, Shine, and Seger... and Mazur prefers to play his off hand like Tarasenko and Kane, so in theory he should slot at LW. And there's a good chance Seger ends up in Toledo with the depth chart the way it is. So really the only natural RHed RWer on the team is Shine, and he's not even under contract with the Wings... Maybe the plan is to force Mazur to the right side? I have mixed feelings about that as well, but even if it is, there is still plenty of room for another RHed RW, like MBN, on that roster. With Danielson and Mazur forced to RW: Snively - Kasper - Mazur Soderblom - Dries - Danielson Rychlovsky- Lombardi - Shine Johannes - Hanas - Gettinger (LH) Bantle - Doucet - Seger

Kasper making it complicates the hell out of things. Adding him gives us a 24 man roster. So we have to cut 3 people. The most ideal is probably sending Edvinsson down and waiving Holl and Motte. Could waive a goalie, but that doesn't seem ideal. I think you want to rotate the goalies hoping that Husso and Talbot claim their rightful positions, then then we can be comfortable waiving Lyon. It would suck sending Ed down, but he's the only one with waiver immunity. If Kasper doesn't make it he's the clear #1 callup and should see plenty of action. There's really only 12 forwards ahead of him. So he'll play at first injury.
