What is the purpose of the NHL's Game Winning Goal statistic?
LeftWinger replied to kalaco's topic in General
I remember when all of you were so high on Franzen leading the team in GWG's. I said it back then and I'll say it again, it shouldn't be counted as a GWG unless the goal is scored in OT, or it's the actual goal that untied the game and puts you ahead. Too many teams are up by 6, let's say, then barely hold on to win 6-5 and that 6th goal, scored in the 2nd, is considered a GWG. And that's exactly how Franzen, amongst others, accumilated their GWG's. -
typical #9, never admitting when someone actually makes sense. I should've known I'd get more intelligence from the wall. Please do not mention me or reply to me anymore. Convo over. Carry on...

Also, I cannot believe that Chicago is allowing someone to wear Chelios' #7. I guess since it isn't retired (it should be) it's no big deal, but I feel that it should be out of circulation. Oh well.... Abby - Glenny - Helm is a great 4th line. ...too bad that is not where they'll be. One of those guys will be on the top line.

I, for one, am pretty excited for out kids coming along! As much as we'll miss Z, I really don't think we are going to miss him as much as we all once feared. AA is proving he belongs. He will be one of our scoring leaders this season! I wish we could keep all of Svech, Ras and Zadina up here to start the season. Heck, with injuries, we just might be able to! Right now we have 14 FWDs signed, take away Z and Franzen, that leaves us 2 openings for sure! We have 6 D signed, with injuries, we may need to upgrade 5 kids on D,or if we wanted to go with 3 kid fwds, we could go with only 6 D and use Witko as both an extra fwd and D.
-
So, out to start the season possibly: Green, Daley, DD, E. We needed 1 kid to make the team to have 7 healthy D, now we have only 2 healthy D (and how healthy is Kronwall really?) so that gives 5 kids the possibly the opening night! Sulak, Cholowski, Hronek, Hicketts and Saarijarvi will all get extended looks past the pre-season! Kronwall - Jensen Cholowski - Hronek Sulak - Hicketts (Saarijarvi) Not exact combos, but that is a real fresh look!

I mean players that I have suggested getting rid of over the years have either been let go, traded, waived. Not necessarily the exact names of kids coming up, but players like Hudler, Kindl, Smith, Filppula, Andersson, and some others I may have forgotten (whom I took a lot of heat for suggesting they not be on our team) have all been ditched basically. Even going back to my suggestion of trading Franzen for Alex Burrows (which I took too much heat for) would've been a great deal in hindsight considering Franzen's eventual head problems that caused him to LTIR. Not that I could've seen that coming, but back then I was suggesting that deal because I felt that Franzen playing with the Twins would resurrect his scoring. Unbeknownst to all of us, it was the concussions that was causing him to falter on the ice. But if that deal could've happened, we would've gotten a full career out of Burrows instead of LTIR Franzen. I still think we should've dealt Franzen circa 2010, but in the end, he didn't play anyhow. I admit, much like some others, there were times when I went overboard with some trade suggestions, but for the most part, nearly every player that I didn't like on this team, for one reason or another, was eventually dealt, waived, went unsigned, despite the tons of slack I took from folks here for even suggesting any of it. So, ya, I have had some doosies of trade scenario's, but again, most of the players I had in those trades, are gone. So maybe the deals I suggested weren't the best, but 99% the payers I suggested to trade, are gone. So ya, the team I didn't like is pretty much gone, and the team I am liking more and more is here and building. Nah, any of the players that will be there opening night ALL have waiver exemptions. We're good!
-
To be fair, 99% of the players that I wanted cut, waived, not re-signed or traded, eventually got cut, waived not re-signed or traded. So, it just seems I would've just done it sooner that what our management did. The team I've been building in my world is taking shape in the real world. You just have to open your eyes and realize it.

There are no more "bridge deals." Looks like we're in for another lockout come CBA expiration.

In related news, Nic Hague has been sent to minors by Vegas. crow....yuck!

Speaking of D, the Isles have sent Noah Dobson back to junior.
-
By the time Yzerman is here, most bad contracts will be gone. Yzerman or not, IMO Abby isn't going anywhere. I can maybe see Nielsen waiving his NTC to go to a Contender or back to The Isle to be their top C. But unless Holland does something stupid, like extend all the upcoming (or re-sign them) with bug raises, Yzerman won't have too many bad contracts to dump.

So there are 4 spots going to kids. I believe Rasmussen has more than passed his audition. It's gonna be a close race between Zadina and Svech. On D, with all the talk of Hronek being the front runner, honestly I think Cholowski has been the one to earn the guaranteed spot on D. With Greens issue, it may not be a bottom 6 role either. He's done very well and there's no reason why he couldn't be top 4. The other D spot, IMO, is still up for grabs. It's a 3-way race between Hicketts, Hronek and Sulak. Back up front, if Frk is not ready to go, that opens up a 3rd forward spot to start the season. Come Oct, we could be looking at Ras, Svech, Zadina, Cholowski and Hicketts all on the roster. Not to mention if Kronners knees cause him problems this year.

I don't know how Tippett is doing in Florida, but when Ras is contributing to this team this year and actually proving he was the right choice, my new Nick name will be Crow-Daddy!

Mike Green is out indefinitely. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/red-wings-green-indefinitely-virus-attacked-liver/sn-amp/

Like father like son. Re: Domi Now Re: Green Are we gonna have even more LTIR available if needed? Cholowski and Sulak( or Hronek) to start the season?
-
Hypothetical question: Detroit wins lottery, Vancouver wants that pick so the Hughes Bros. can be their stars. What is a real offer and what would you expect from them? Obviously their 1st round is included. I'd want too much in return! Boeser, Horvat, Woo and 2019 1st, 2nd, 2020 1st. Or I'd see what they want to get Quinton on our team to play with Jack! I am sure they'd want a ton in return!

I really don't understand the holdup in Vegas re-signing Theodore. They have over $9M in cap available. Maybe it's term, but at the very least give him 1 year at a nice raise and try again next summer for a long term deal. If not, trade him to us! We've got a nice supply of "VETS" to help them get back to the Finals!

2018 Prospect Tournament and Training Camp

The difference is, they have $13M in cap space ATM. When Larkin signed, it put us well over the cap. That, I blame on Holland. He has too many overpaid, under performing players. It most definitely helps that we are able to utilize plenty of LTIR. Also, losing the contracts of Nyquist, Howard and maybe more helps a ton for next season.

2018 Prospect Tournament and Training Camp
LeftWinger replied to Neomaxizoomdweebie's topic in General
I'm still going with Z2, Ras, and Hronek making the team out of camp. Svech and Cholowki the first IR call ups. With the way the lines have been, and Blshill's "60 mins of hell" comment, I am not so confident on line combos though. He's probably going to go with A grinder on all the lines...great. -
If not Jack Hughes, then Broberg. If we do not the #1 OA and the franchise player, we need to draft for need. We need high end D. Broberg is that D. Then sign Karlsson. Here is TSN's top 20 at the moment: (warning, not good on phones! Sorry in advance!) https://www.tsn.ca/hughes-leads-the-pack-in-tsn-hockey-s-pre-season-draft-ranking-1.1172382
