I honestly think the $5.4M is closer to being correct. Before they signed Larkin, that's about what they had by factoring in just Franzen's LTIR. Z and Larkin are pretty much a wash, so it should be somewhere in that range. I think what happens is they only use what they need. Even though Z and Franzen's cap equals almost $10M, if, let's say the three kids salary equals $3M, that's all the LTIR we'll show being used and it'll also still only show $0 in available cap.

That's gonna be a line in Detroit from what I've been reading. Sounds electric.

Weird how the LTIR works. I go to capfriendly.com, use the Armchair GM mode to make a team. I place Z on LTIR 1st, then Franzen, it gives me an available cap of $1.14M, I place Franzen on LTIR 1st, then Z and it gives me an available cap of $5.4M. Obviously Holland will do it in the right order or he won't be able to promote but ONE player from GR. Then, after I promote Zadina, Ras and Hronek I am left with $2.8M. BUT if I promote them FIRST then LTIR Z and Franzen, in that order, I am left with $3.6M cap......so crazy! If I promote them first and only LTIR Z, I am at $0 cap space, so I don't even have to put Franzen on LTIR to be compliant. Strange rules! And yes, I am using LTIR PRO Mode.

I guess im a pretty brave macho warrior , or a stupid one. I drive from the Manistee area every week to work....in Detroit. Once there, once back, every week, for the last 6 years. Bring on the snow!

This is great! Meh, like I said, doesn't matter really. He is signed, Z is retired. I don't want to turn this thread into a Larkin discussion. I'm happy for both. Z will be missed, much like all of our past Red Wings.

It's not impossible to think there was two offers. But nevermind. None of it matters because all along Z was done. Fact. Ya, that didn't sound right when i read it, oh well. My position is known.

Rest easy, we watched Yzerman for more years and never got to see him score 700 goals, when we all wanted him to play another season to do so. We'll get over it and watch the new Captain get 1000 points (or very close to it.) Its time for the kids. You can believe what you want, but they are indeed related. Larkin had said he wants a contract that doesn't hurt the team. Why on Earth would he allow his contract to put the team over the cap (If Z was playing) and force them to make the team worse by handcuffing them? I fully believe there were two contract offers on the table he was going to sign, one with Z, one without. There is nothing anyone can say that can deter me from that. Larkin wanted to sign a deal that allowed them to ice a team that would be better, not make them waive or trade someone. Anyhow, you will think otherwise and I can see your point too, but you refuse to even think for a moment that my theory has ZERO possibility. Thats fine, I can respect that. Doesn't mean you or I am correct.

Zadina will be up if it comes down to him or Svech. It'll be Z, Ras, Hronek.

I don't recall saying that for 3 years. Kronwall maybe, Z, I don't think so. It's time to move forward. At least he'll probably still be around the team in an "advisory role."

I told you. The way people in the know we're talking just didn't sit right. They always talked about his back and his surgery, but never did they sound so positive that he might be done. Never did they put out there that he may not play again. It's over. And dispute it all you want, the amount of money Larkin got had Everything to do with Z's health. They found out behind closed doors and then gave Larkin more money. I am positive that there was two deals on the table. With Z and without. Anyhow, thanks for the years Z! You were one of the best! #40 to the rafters!
  12. I can dig it. But Igor has to be in there somewhere! Great hockey mind!
  13. I know he wants the challenge of rebuilding Detroit, but what's more challenging than building a team from scratch? I think Holland would jump at the chance.
  14. If Seattle gets their team by next season, Yzerman will be our GM for the 19/20 season.

Pretty underwhelming return. I'm thinking we could've matched that. I wasn't for trading for him, but the equivalent of that return would've been fine in hindsight. I really don't think this puts San Jose over the top. I think Karlsson will be pretty disappointed out there. Guess we hope he does not sign there and we get a shot at him in July. 29 other teams have to be Shaking their heads at that return...PLUS no Bobby Ryan.

    Rumors Thread

I think Dallas is drooling over the opportunity to reunite Karlsson and Methot. They have a smidge over $5.3M in cap space, but will they have to take on Ryan's contract as well? If so, they'd need to clear cap! PLUS with the rumored Seguin extension of over $9.5M, they'd need to be careful on Karlsson's extension as well!

I feel for the guy. I have yet to fully move on from my loss, but thank Goodness for my son's, my friends at work and all of you guys here who have reached out to me. If I had to face my demons everyday alone, I too, may have gone down a dark path. It makes me so happy to see this guy start over and attempt to leave his former self in the past. I cannot say that I know what its like to be addicted to drugs and alcohol, but I do understand the depression. each day gets a little better for him, and myself actually. I think I am going to start following him and his story a lot closer. Thanks for putting the story up here @Wheelchairsuperhero.
  19. Sock? Can't say I know what that term means, but ya, I am just taking the fantasy route! I do believe he will be our GM by this time next year though. Nah, Helm is going to Seattle with Holland. He will be their Captain. Holland will give us a 1st round pick for him! (ok, just joking about that.)

I certainly hope its NOT us!!!!
  21. @krsmith17 Yzerman was only born out there, he grew up in Ottawa until he "grew up " here.
  22. Which is EXACTLY what I eluded too! He will be catching plenty of games at the LCA, assessing the team and getting ideas on how he can make the team better, when he becomes GM. Leadership is in his blood. He will most definitely have ideas and be playing armchair GM (like we all do) when it comes to "HIS" team. I cannot wait for him to take over. Holland has done very well in recent years, but he will take the Seattle franchise and build it from the ground up. Isn't Holland from Western Canada anyhow? I believe he is a BC boy. That's pretty close to Seattle. It's time. Holland will step aside after this season and Yzerman will take over, with Draper as his Asst. GM. And as an added bonus, Yzerman WILL recommend that #91 be retired. Since Marion loves him so much, she will let by-gones be by-gones. He will employ Lidstrom (the REAL Swedish Don) to "convince" Karlsson to sign in Detroit come July. I cannot wait for his shrewd deals next summer! This TDL, Holland will be making deals that he and Yzerman have discussed "off the record." Holland will deal Nyquist and Daley to Tampa for their Stanley Cup run. Coming to Detroit will be Cal Foote and Taylor Raddish. Tampa will win the Cup, Yzerman will get his name on it again, then be our official GM before the draft. Yzerman to the GM, Fedorov to the rafters! Stanley Cup by 2022. Oh, and Darren Helm will be the first Captain in Seattle.
  23. He will still be an advisor for Tampa, but he will also spend a ton of time as a "fan" of our team, watching all the home games as a "guest" of The Ilitch's from their private suite, "getting to know" our (soon to be his) players. This IS happening. Yzerman will be drafting Jack Hughes and signing Erik Karlsson to Detroit come summer.
