2018 Prospect Tournament and Training Camp

Sorry, maybe this is better served here... I put it in the off season thread, but this is probably on subject more.

Well that was fast! Guess Patches wanted to stay in Vegas! In local news, Matt Puempel has re-signed with us. 2 years, 675K per.

I like that #1 line! Come October, just replace Veleno with Larkin and we'll watch some stars shine!

not sure if you guys realize the puns you are using! @krsmith17 said he refuses to "bet" against Vegas @e_prime said they're still rather "flush" intentional or not, its pretty funny!

...speaking of Suzuki, I'd take Ryan Suzuki with one of our high 2nds this draft. But that is a different thread! Back to Montreal, with Suzuki now and Kotkaniemi, along with Drouin, they have a pretty good Center lineup for their future.

Well, with LV's run to the Cup Final last season, they are pretty much in a "win now" situation, which sounds weird when talking about a 2nd year team, but they upgraded from Tatar to Pacioretty, and felt the could afford to sell off Suzuki. Heck, if they are in a win now spot, I'll send them Daley for, hmmmm, I dunno, Hague! Sorry, couldn't resist! But heck, they still haven't signed Theodore...wonder if they want a "win now" player for him? I'd send them Daley and Nyquist! If Holland was able to pull off Daley and Nyquist for Theodore, I'd extend Holland to a life-time contract!

to be noted that the 2nd rounder received by Montreal was one that Vegas got from Columbus along with the 1st round pick they used to draft Suzuki. So basically, in the end, this was a 5 team trade between Us, Vegas, CBJ, NYI and Montreal. Detroit gets: Joseph Veleno, 2019 2nd Round (previously owned by NYI) and 2021 3rd round pick LV gets: David Clarkston (from CBJ) Mikael Grabovski, 2017 1st rounder (Brannstrom) Jake Bishoff (from NYI) and Pacioretty. Montreal gets: Tatar, 2019 2nd (via CBJ) and Suzuki Columbus got Expansion draft considerations as did NYI. Would you have traded an equivalent package to Montreal for Patches provided we could work out an extension.

I think it was a good deal. Suzuki is good, real good actually, but will that translate to the NHL, we will see. At least they got something for Patch.

Cholowski will probably make it. Right now the roster sits at 21. Take away Z and Franzen that leaves room for 4. Zadina, Rasmussen, Hronek, Cholowski. If Svech tears it up, it could spell the end of Frk. Or maybe, Kronwall doesn't make it out of camp. Or too far into the season.

So are we now including Mantha in a deal for Karlsson?

But if he wouldn't want to come here via UFA, then there is no way we'd make a list of approved teams to be traded to. You can pretty much guarantee that whatever extension he signed would have a clause in it so he can control where he doesn't go. If we have zero chance to sign him UFA, then why would we be a place he'd allow a trade to?

So, what you're saying is, if The Wings trade for him, they have zero chance of re-signing him. And before you say sign and trade, guarantee Karlsson will have a clause to which he gives Ottawa a list of teams. So, if you're saying Detroit has zero chance at him as a UFA, then we surely will not be on his approved list.

Swap the picks, 2019 2nd and 2020 1st, and maybe we'll have the makings of a deal.

For that price, I'll wait to see if he becomes UFA. Im not passing up possible Jack Hughes or even a top 5 for Karlsson. ...besides, if they're telling a team they have to have Ryan's contract, then that will drive the price down, not up.

You do not trade the 2019 1st. Period. Especially for a UFA rental and a highly overpaid Bobby Ryan. Let alone the package you're dealing away.

Nah, not yet. The article didn't say he was a bust, just a lot to prove. I'll have a crow wing for me saying he was a Calder candidate last year. I'd say he may win it this year, but that'll be Zadina. I'm still a fan of both him and Hague and hope they both make the NHL. I'd still love to have either of them in our organization. But, I am really pulling for Rasmussen to take off this year.

if a team comers asking about Daley this TDL, I definitely move him. Next TDL, Green. I don't see anybody asking about E, so let him play out his contract and then bid adieu. Either way, NONE of those players can be on this team in October 2020.

Yzerman vs Fedorov. Which one was better?

Every time I watch a video or interview with Yzerman, it makes me crazy thinking why he's not part of our organization. I just gave Holland hid props for the draft, but I really hope Yzerman comes home.

Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread

Just watched this. It's Bobby Mac's final draft ranking. This aired a week before the draft. It's no wonder they say Detroit won the draft, Zadina was ranked #4, Valeno #14 and McIssac #26. That's three 1st rounders there folks! It remains to be seen how they (and Berggren) shake out, but I really have to give Holland an A+ here.

Not so sure. As of now, they still have $27M in cap next season. I am sure Laine will get Eichel money, but they may very well still have enough room to sign Trouba. But you still may be right considering they have to sign or promote 12 players next off season. I would venture to say it is definitely the end for Tyler Meyers though. Unless they go with him instead of Trouba! Queue up the TDL Trouba rumors!
