Got it! I read it as he was better than any Wing you have ever seen in your lifetime. Now that I look at it and maybe insert my own comma's (not being grammar police ) I now understand what you were pointing out. Not too sure he was better at than Fedorov, but I do get what you are saying and tend to agree. Maybe he had health issues longer than we realized, because for stretches he did take over games now and then.

I respect your opinion, but Franzen played with BOTH Datsyuk and Zetterberg in their primes AND the Super-Human Lidstrom In your opinion Franzen was better than those 3? Plus he played a season with Marian Hossa. Not to mention he played his rookie season with Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan. I am so sorry you never got to watch any live 1990-2005 Red Wings play. I just wonder what you mean by saying "most elite players never hit HIS prime level?" Are you saying that most elite players never hit Franzen's "prime" level? My goodness, here is Franzen's career stats: Regular Season Playoffs He's NEVER topped 60 points in his career. MOST Elite players never get below 80-90 (sometimes over 100) points. I am not interested in debating Franzen v. AA, but Franzen, even in his prime, was far, FAR from Elite. I respect all he did for us during his prime as well, I am not knocking him at all. In his BEST goal scoring season and points season (34G 59TTL) here are the leaders in G, A and Points just for that season: In his 2nd highest scoring season 2011-2012 (29G 56TTL) here are the leaders from that year: Again, not debating AA vs. Franzen, two different types of players, but to say most elite players never hit Franzen's "prime" level is nuts. Thank you Johan for the memories and that memorable Cup run, but no way has he, or will he be considered ELITE. Elite players get their number retired (most of the time) and get to the Hall of Fame. Franzen will have none of that. He's never even gotten ANY major award, nor has he ever made an appearance at an All-Star Game, except maybe as a spectator.

Oh, I do agree, I was against the amount of cap that Howard and Mrazek took up, but Bobvro currently has an AAV of $7.4M, if he plays the way he can and has, he will most certainly get a raise, so I was just going by that. In no way would I want to have our two goalies making $12M! Yikes! Makes you wonder, with the way Montreal has not lived up to their standards, how long will they keep Price around for $10.5M? He's signed through 2026 with a FULL NMC. Maybe if they don't get things going in a few years, he may ask for a trade. That's a long time for a lot of money, hasn't won much of anything IMO to even warrant that much, but that's just me. I know he's won a lot of games and awards, but that was nearly 4 years ago when he did all that. But, they aren't in any cap trouble, and they have a full roster of players signed. Maybe if they can get a nice return for Pacioretty they could turn the corner.

Jason Zucker just re-signed with the Wild. Similar numbers (he's a tad older) and also coming off an RFA contract. He signed 5yrs. $5.5M AAV. That is something I'd love to see Larkin sign for or 6yrs $5M AAV.

Just a quick tidbit on these two. Their actual salary for the upcoming season is: Z - $3.35M, then 2 yrs at $1M each Kronner - $1.75M So, the actual salary being paid is not that much, even if they both went LTIR. BTW, Franzen and his $3.9M cap hit for two more years, his actual salary is only $1M for each year. So he is not coting the wings hardly anything to remain on LTIR. So, in actual salary, these three are only making $5.1M for this season, then it drops to $2M for next season and $1M for a 3rd season. You can see why the team is not even shaking over the possibility of either of those two joining Franzen on LTIR.

That would be great, but in that thread I also advocated pursuing Bobvrosky. I do believe all three would be a tad bit expensive . But ya, if I had to choose 2 of the three, having a top pair of Karlsson and Trouba would be the choice for me! (in 2-3 years) Trouba - Karlsson Cholowski - Hronek Dekeyser - McIsaac I think that would be a very nice 6 D!

...sugue...As mentioned in the 2018 thread AND the Abby thread, let's hope that Larkin gets a fair deal that allows us to be active next July. We have a good amount of Cap coming off the books in 2019. Vanek, Nyquist (maybe re-signed but cheaper,) Z guarantee LTIR, Franzen still LTIR, Kronwall and Howard. Total that is approx: $24M (combined) coming off the books in one way or another. Maybe the Cap increases a few million again as well. But if we can get Larkin signed this year to a team friendly $5M-$5.5M deal, there is a great chance that we could be serious players for Karlsson (if he's UFA) and a hot goalie like Bobvrosky. Ya, he's 29 now, but I think if we can get him for 4 years at around $9M he may be that goalie (along with Karlsson) that we need to take us back to glory within those 4 years. As mentioned in the Abby thread we have a good amount of talented kids up front (plus we'll more than likely be a lottery team again this year) and if we were able to add Karlsson and Bobvrosky (ya that would suck up a ton of cap (probably cap hell) but if we win within 4-5 years, it'd be worth it. Plus within 2 years, Ericsson, Daley and Green's cap will also be gone, replaced by mostly ELC's. This could be a scenario where this tea's rebuild becomes complete.

Had to bump this up due to the re-signing of our RFA's (sans Larkin.) I think Holland has done a pretty good job at getting Mantha and AA (Bertuzzi and Frk as well) signed to team friendly "bridge" deals, lets hope the comments by Larkin ring true and they can get something done that also allows the team to be very active and flexible come next July (which will lead me to the 2019 rebuild thread...segue)

Wouldn't it be a huge curve ball if BOTH Z and Kronner went to LTIR? I am not saying Kronner is close, I haven't read anything to the fact, but man, that would be nuts.

Today, Trouba's signing finally showed up as official on TSN. He is an RFA WITH arbitration rights AGAIN next summer. Someone said something earlier, what is he going to do just keep going a year at a time? If he is not happy with how the Jets are treating him, he needs to request a trade out of there. He wanted $7M, they wanted $4M (insult) and he got the $5.5M, but even, in todays market, is too low for him. I'd gladly be fine with giving him $6.5M for 7 seasons, but it looks like he is gong to just keep this up until he is a UFA and then he won't have but 3-4 good seasons left in him.

That has to be the most stupid trade I've ever seen.
