2018-2019 Opening Night Roster - Dedicated to BlueAdams!
LeftWinger replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Well, if he is, then we'll have no cap issues and Zadina will be here. I just get that bad vibe though from all these interviews. They all have a negative aura about them... -
2018-2019 Opening Night Roster - Dedicated to BlueAdams!

I don't think he's playing. https://www.tsn.ca/blashill-noncommittal-on-zetterberg-s-status-1.1145599 -
But we all know a trade is not going to happen. Here is our situation after giving $6M to Larkin, having Rasmussen on the team and having Frk as the 13th FWD and Witko as the 7th D, BEFORE counting Franzen's LTIR of $3.9M. ...so if you do not waive ONE of Frk or Witko, what are we going to do? Even With Franzen we are still over the Cap. Here is what happens when I try to assign Franzen LTIR: We all agree that if they do give Larkin $6M a trade will HAVE to be made, but we know better than that, it won't. Not until the TDL. So either we waive Frk or Witko or Holland knows that Z won't be playing. But if Z is playing, Holland will waive someone. If he keeps Rasmussen in jrs. then he lied to us the entire off season about 2-5 "new kids" (not the ones on the block ) being here. That is why I say they wasted too much money on Green, Vanek and Bernier. They soaked up $11.375M of our available cap. Not that we can't use them on the roster, it's just too much money wasted. At the very least Rasmussen and Zadina should be here or maybe another young D instead of Zadina. But as it looks right now, if Larkin gets $6M, not even Rasmussen will be here, so our "new kids" are Vanek and Bernier plus a re-signed Green. Mantha and AA did us a favor by signing the contracts they signed. Vanek, Bernier and Green (and hopefully Larkin) should've done the same. Our only saving grace, so we don't have to waive anyone, is if the Team and Larkin agree on a $5M-$5.5M contract. We'll still be the top paid team in regards to cap hit, but at least we'd be compliant. But we'd only have 1 "new kid" here instead of 2-5 and right now, IMO, we won't even have him. So if we cannot waive Frk or Witko (in your opinion) Here's your team come October, with $0 available cap: (lines not set up, just roster)
-
So $5.5M for 1 year. There's no chance Winnipeg doesn't accept that award.
-
Without waiving one of them we'll be over the cap, even with Franzen LTIR. Plus, we'll be so close to the cap after waiving one, we'll still have no cap space for Zadina. Not unless or until Z is done. So once again we'll be the highest paid team in the NHL and still be a bottom 10 team. Too much money for the UFA's we signed they sucked up all the cap.

A good comparison for the Larkin contract is Ehlers in WPG. Although Dylan is a C and Ehlers is a LW, they had similar numbers last season and for their 3 year careers. Ehlers has him by 22 TTL points. Ehlers has had TWO season's of 60+ points, Dylan only one, plus last 2016-17 was dismal in comparison. But anyhow, Ehlers new contract takes affect this season and it's 7 years $42M, $6M AAV. That is what most people are expecting Dylan to get, a $6M AAV. I would love to see him settle for a $5M AAV, for 6 years just to get that extra $1M in cap space. Anyhow, it'll probably end up 6yrs $36M and then we will be set, except for clearing cap by waiving Frk or Witko.
-
I hope he gets 2 yrs $14M and the Jets walk away from it. But I doubt it. They have $18M in cap space, although they only have 10 forwards signed.
-
He's wearing#72, that says it all.
-
Thanks for that link, a lot of good reads! When/if Z is on LTIR, Larkin will wear a 3rd A until Z's contract is up, IMO. Then taking over the C.
-
I sure was hoping for a more team friendly amount, I must be out of the times. I happen to think that Mantha gave us a team friendly deal, it would be nice if we could get Dylan for around $5M. I know it's only $1M from the source, but that $1M can be helpful in giving him a better team to play for. If Larkin gets $6, you have to think that Z is LTIR almost for sure.

Ok, so here is what I understand, since Trouba was the one to file, he cannot refuse the award. The team can decide not to honor it if its a 1 year award, or if its a two year award, they can still walk away after year 1, IF the award is above $4.2M, which I am sure it will be. Both of these resulting in Trouba becoming an instant UFA. If the team filed then, Trouba has the same options as the team in the first paragraph and could reject the award making himself a UFA.
-
Does anyone recall what could happen after the ruling? Do the Jets have to honor it? Can they trade him? Does he have to honor the ruling? (btw, don't try to press play, it's just a snipit pic from TSN)

Andreas Athanasiou Officially Signed 2 yrs. $3M AAV
LeftWinger replied to SwedeLundin77's topic in General
I am not arguing at all. I am not part of your debate, I just said IMO if he was given top 6 minutes and line mates, along with top PP, he score 30 or more goals. He is a good enough scorer that given the minutes, he would excel. -

I continue to believe, if AA is given consistent top 6 minutes (and line mates) and top PP time, he'll score over 30 goals and net about 50-60 points. 1st PP Line: Zadina (Rasmussen) - Larkin - Mantha AA - Green I know it's a bit different than in my "lines thread" but I think that he may be deadly with that on-timer from the high slot opposite side shift. -

Well I certainly hope AA's stats don't go the way of Franzen after his "serious contract" -

He'll get there. Remember when they all said Datsyuk was not a playoff performer? AA's game will round out. -
I just think, for now and in the near future, there are far better options for him. But hey, you never know! But I still wouldn't want to give up more than Svech and a pick for him. Which means I am not getting him, but I just think anything more, especially the Chicago rumor, is catastrophic overpayment. Especially us being a potential lottery team again.
-
Calgary has not signed Hanfin yet, he also has no Arbitration Rights, so if I offer sheet anyone, it'd be him! But Calgary has $7M in cap space, so they'd match anything I'd offer him! Shea Theodore is another, but again, Vegas has $13M in cap space, so I am sure they aren't worried about someone offering him a contract either.
-
The only D I give up Mantha and the 2019 1st (Lottery Pick) for is PK Subban. ...anyhow... This is, IMO, why Larkin is going nowhere and will be the next Captain of this team. https://mynhltraderumors.com/nhl-rumors-detroit-red-wings-and-the-nashville-predators/2018/07/15/

No way. That is extreme overpayment. Faulk is a rental (basically) for two years. Unless we become a contender by acquiring him, there is nearly a 0% chance he does not test the UFA market. Even if he did decide to stay on, it would still be too much to give. Svech and a 2020 1st (or a 2019 2nd) is the most I would offer for Faulk. I'm not even dealing AA for a rental. The ONLY way I see Faulk staying for 8 more years after his contract is if we make the playoffs this year, sign Karlsson in July, somehow get a playoff proven goalie and we are in the top 5-10 in offense within those 2 years. There are just too many teams out there that are way better than us that have a ton of cap space to offer him PLUS be on a legit Cup contender. Has anyone heard anymore about Krug being available?
-
Ya, but there is the outside chance they wouldn't match, ONLY because next year we're more than likely still a lottery team, and they'd get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd from us. Meaning they'd get a shot at Jack Hughes for sure, PLUS our high 2nd and 3rd. They just may let him go for that.

Makes sense. His mother needs him more than we do. Never, EVER did I think I'd be saying this, but Thank You Chris Chelios for all you've done for our organization! ...and the infamous interview in January 1999. It's 17:00 minutes long, but skip to 10:00 and listen through 11:00ish to hear the "Never play for Detroit, that's how much I hate them..." Low and behold, two months later...
