Not if Holland is going to screw the pooch with his top 10 picks though. I agree though, this team needs a rebuild not a retool, and that starts by dumping all the salary we can, even if its for 7th round picks....E, Nyquist, Helm, Howard, etc...we need to open up about $20M in cap and be one of those team that needs to meet the cap floor. Then we can maybe outbid some teams for a REAL upgrade to out team.

So let's pass on the best shooter in the draft...the decline is Holland's fault and he should've been dealt with years ago. He's proven over and over that he cannot function in a cap world. Back when we had superstars on this team players were lining up to take discounts to play on this original 6 team. Remember when pretty much everyone here made fun of Wiz when he came out and called out Holland for lowballing players and not paying them what they're worth? Well look where we are now, Holland now pays his players more than they're worth, but nobody really wants to come play here still because of Holland's past practices. Add that to now overpaying mediocre players and making stupid decisions. Helm, Abby, DD, Howard, Ericsson, Nyquist....the list goes on. I like Abby and DD, but he still overpaid them. Add that to the other wasted contracts and that's why we were the top paid team last season and missed the playoffs. When you're paying bottom 6 players and mediocre defensemen as much as we are, you have no room to improve your team. When your drafting projects instead of best player available, you belong in the Looney bin. This team will not compete for a Cup until 5-6 years after Holland's garbage contracts are gone and his junk players are dealt or cut.

I wonder why we haven't heard anything about Detroit and Nick Binino...
-
Just so we all know...RFA compensation.
-
I can see it now, Hartnell, Vanek and Daley.
-
Lost his battle with cancer. I wonder if he a Probie will go a few rounds up there? Of course then have few rounds as We'll! Rest in Peace Dave. https://www.google.com/amp/www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/former-edmonton-oiler-dave-semenko-passes-away-age-59/sn-amp/

Why are we after a 33 yo D man who score 19 points last season?
-
Welcome to Boston Trev. Ya, watch him become the D we all hoped he would be here...oue luck.
-
Yes but the cap can't just keep going up. Eventually it will burst. We, as fans, sat through how many strikes and lockouts because of this, and now player salary is getting out of hand. But, owners are making more and more as well, I get it. But it just has to pop sooner or later.

I don't know, that Lefty guy did a whole lot of off the subject name calling... We all kind of understand the anger towards Blashill though. Maybe it's for the good? Maybe he's trying to make them all complete players? I just remember when Larkin hit the scene he was right up there in points and superstar chat along with Eichel, et al. He went to All-star weekend and was part of all the buzz about future stars. Then it seemed like the more he learned Blashill's system, the more his numbers declined. Look at AA, he's electric, makes things happen offensively when he's on the ice. But all we hear is about he needs to get better. Sometimes you just have to let the snipers snipe. Plus his line combos are somewhat questionable at times...but maybe it's with good reason, We'll see...

Bet Brian Boyle gets a call from Holland.
-
Would any of you want Jumbo Joe?
-
Ugh...no, God no.

Honestly, unless he re-signs, I'd rather save cap and go after Fowler next year. Unless he signs players to 1 year and flips them for picks again. I can see Green getting us at least a 2nd at the deadline. Players like Daley or Girardi could tech the same. It'd be nice to have a couple of 1sts and 2nds next draft.
-
I agree, but we're talking Holland here. Plus Blashill and his stupid line combos. Holland loves the vets and Blashill will probably rotate sitting Sproul and XO before he sits E anyhow.
-
I suppose they could just go with 13 forwards and 8 D, but as long as it's 1 year deals so we can flip them at the deadline for picks. It's just a cap issue unless there's a cap dump coming, but I doubt it. I say that because with AA and Tatar,We'll have 11 forwards signed. They could bring up a kid that needs to clear waivers and maybe another, or sign Vanek. Then with the 7 D they have now, they could sign an 8th and still be at 23.
-
Well so much for the funny name line. Wait, we could still eventually have: Frk - Ehn - AA
-
Waiving him doesn't give us any cap relief except $950,000ish. I believe Holland is going to do some stupid stuff Saturday.Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him try to make his team better, but I think D will have to be acquired via trade, there's just no spots available without losing someone for free. I hate that. I wouldn't mind giving Vanek another chance, but then again we're looking at cap issues. We do have over $11M with Franzen LTIR, but I still believe Tatar will get $5M-$5.5M. AA will get at least $1M. Maybe less, but we still have very little room to make our team better via UFA.

Spencer said Foock off Holland....
-
I just don't understand signing a D when we have 7 here already and a couple that can be called up. You start signing D you're going to have to waive some. Don't think that a team won't take any one of Sproul, XO or Jensen. They'd be gone instantly...for free and You know Holland won't trade E.
-
Well who's the next unsigned college FA we'll target and lose?
-
Guess family is always right...i think he made a foo-lish choice. But,dammit I am tired of losing out in these guys. I know we got DD, but he was a hometown guy. The culture in Detroit has to change.
-
So, is this going to be an 11th hour decision?
-
We'll, just like you guys were telling me all this time, just because he's there doesn't mean they'll draft him. Holland proved this with Vilardi and Tippett, the no-brainer picks according to TSN. But he took who he wanted. He could've passed over Chychrun and chose Cholowski anyway. With the dumbassness of Holland, I'm almost convinced He'd do it...
