Just by listening to Holland, I get that feeling he's looking at getting that type veteran backup to be behind Petr. Just a sense I get i guess.

He's saying no because he's team Jimmy. But ya, Howard will be moved and i believe Ryan Miller will be signed as the veteran backup to play behind Petr. Which means Drew will be re-signed as well.

There wasn't much good about our Wings this year, but i think they just may have been better than frozen wings from target...

while I agree we don't see anywhere near as much information as pro scouts do, it's not like you can't get a good gauge on someone from what's available. But no, I don't just read one source. I look around for as much as I can. Do I research every player? No. I research mostly the ones I'm interested in.

While I admit, I don't see it all, but it's not like I only read one source. I didn't say I never heard of him, just saying he hasn't seemed to have gotten as much fanfare. You're probably right about the connection with his father. But no, I don't miss that much info.

I like his numbers the last two season at Brooks as well. It's just so hard to gauge these kids. Do you pass on someone like Foote, that has received a lot more talk around the experts, or do you go with a dark(er) horse? I guess that would be my issue with Norm Pettersson, not that he is not ranked pretty high, but its also not like he has received as much fanfare and hype as the other 5-7 guys that are on most people's radar.

I am your typical diehard Wings/Hockey fan and when you have your heart set on an outcome and then something comes in from left field that you don't like, you tend to fly off the handle a bit! I'll be mad if we drafted Norm, but it's not like I have any control over it! All I can do is express my dissatisfaction! I do have plenty of responsibility, but other than this forum, all I do is pay bills on my computer. So that is why I have been here so long and post so much. I mostly post here while I am away at work. I commute to Detroit every week to work and am away from my family. So when I have down time or nothing going on, I come here. looks like he's committed to UMASS at least for a year. I've heard his name kicked around here and there, but haven't followed to closely.

Ya, but #2 or #3 should get us Vilardi! I wouldn't be upset, but honestly, I am huge Tippett fan. Would love him in a Wings Uni. I know we need a C just as bad, so that's why if we got top 3 and didn't get Patrick, Vilardi would be great! But I couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't draft Tippett at #3....it'd be a tough choice! My top three picks in the 1st round are Patrick, Vilardi and Tippett. If I chose Vilardi at #3, I would do may damnedest to trade up to get Tippett as well! So lets reset my ultimate 2 rounds at the draft: We get a Top 3 pick, where we get Patrick or Vilardi...trade up to get Tippett, draft Hague in the 2nd round.

I don't think there is any compensation, besides the cap relief. FWIW, I'm with Chaps above with his take on exposing as many "bad contracts" as possible in order force Vages' hand into possibly taking one.

If I'm both a betting and a conspiracy theorist, which I don't bet, so that leaves the latter, I'm willing to bet ( ) that Vages is gifted the #1 overall so they can have a young star on their team.
