03/28 GDT : at Carolina Hurricanes 4, Red Wings 1

Oh Osgood, no....just no. Ben street to play in undisclosed player doesn't? Maybe AA out to protect from revenge? I see street in, who's out? -
I'd take Tippett at #7 honestly. Then try to trade an NHL player and a 3rd to get Hague. I honestly believe those two are game changers. But, it is just my opinion.
-
I really liked the idea of dealing the #7 to St. LOUIS for the 18th and 31st. That plays right into my wish for Tippett and Hague.
-
Maybe we'll still get a #10ish...

with 74 points, if we win our last 7 games and no other team gets an 88th point, we're in! -

He's playing for a contract. It's gonna be $5M for at least 4 years. -

OK, when did we get Paul Coffey back? Who's wearing 77? -
I would be OK with giving Vegas a 3rd to take Helm. Also if we were able to pull off trading a #7 to St. Louis for the 18th and 31st, I'm definitely taking Tippett and Hague. Outside of vilardi, some of those other guys the author listed are very disturbing. Mittelstadt would be fine, but the rest give me shivers. No thanks. I understand the idea of keeping Sheahan, makes sense. I really don't like leaving DD unprotected, but if you already have an agreement with Vegas to take Helm or Abby, then it'll work out OK. The rest I'm fine with, yes even protecting My quest and Tatar over Abby and Helm. I still find it hard to believe he'd leave Abby open, but whatever gets us back into the playoffs next season.

Yes, that was the game where I worked the door on our bench, which is the door on the Wings bench in front of the hallway down to the dressing room. Of course the door just inside the hallway was closed and locked, but it was still very surreal to even be standing there. The actual bench is an uneven crappy piece of wood. I was surprised how it looked. It looked like a bench at your local ice rink. I'm sure it was the original one that was installed there.

Another great regular season game I went to was a game against the Northstars, back in 89 or 90, we won, but the two highlights for me was Kocur beating the snot out of Link Gaetz and to a bloody pulp. Shawn Burr netted a hattie, an even strength, pp and a shortie. We sat right above the zamboni entrance.

Obviously going to March 26th, 97 was at the top of my experiences too, but here's a couple of crappie times. Playoffs, 1991 vs. St. Louis. We were up 3 games to 2, we bought tickets to game 6 hoping to see the elimination of Scott Steven's and the blues...but we lost 3-0. Ugh....fast forward to 2008, our first game against the Pens since our Cup victory...we lost 3 leads, including a 3 goal lead only to lose in OT. To top it off, we sat in a section full, and I mean FULL of visiting pens fans. They were nice people (probably because we had our young sons with us) but it still sucked to be next to them celebrating....bleh!

Of all my good memories there, watching my son's play there is one of my greatest! Here's a photo of my son Mat, #21, waiting for the puck drop!

Kid's amazing. We knew that in his small doses last season. Happy Anniversary Patrick and Claude.

That's what the quote button is for.

You have an argument with that other guy. If I would've directed toward you personally, I would've quoted you. When I went back and read what you told me you wrote, we were basically saying the same thing about quantity and quality. So, not sure why you re-directed your anger towards me. But if you want to think it's everyone vs. You, that's on you. To be honest there were a few users going back and forth, so I really didn't know who took which stance on nationality. I agree that a large quantity of NA players are better, but it's not out of the realm of possibility for a few Eurostars turn out better than most NA's. Chill out Gordie.

I know my two guys have dropped some, but even is Tippett is rank #20, I take him at #10. IF we have #5 or #6 I may reconsider. I know another one of my favorites, Nick Suzuki, is showing at #9 and I may roll the dice on him if I had a #6. But ideally my two main targets are Tippett and Hague. If tippett was still available come #20, I'd try to make a player trade to acquire athat pick and draft him, then even with Hague showing #55 right now, I would take him in the 2nd, especially if we dropped to the 10th pick in each round. So Tippet at #10 and Hague at #41. My best case sceanrio: Get a top 5 pick, draft Vilardi, if Tippett dropped to #20ish, trade a player to acquire that 1st and draft Tippett, then draft Hague with my Top 5 2nd rounder or if there was another guy we wanted in the early 2nd, I'd try to garner a trade to get another 2nd and get Hague.

One of the major factors for me, if I chose a center is he is going to be on the team next season. We need to draft a player that will be here now.
-
I was just making a couple of statements, nothing I said was directed toward you in any way. But to agree with you, if I'm drafting the best player available, I'm not taking an NA player just because and skipping that best player available. For example, if when we draft and the only player touted top 5 left is say Liljegren, I am not taking Jim Smith just because he is NA. I am taking Liljegren. BUT, IMO if I had a choice of Hicshier and Vilardi, I'd chose Vilardi, but if Hischier was the only top center left, I am not taking Tom Jones because he was born in Western Canada. A Euro can and has dominated the NHL, no question.

I still maintain that Babs was the one who "vetoed" Fedorov's return. No doubt in my mind he was a factor in attaining some sought after free agents. But also, I think Holland's philosophy has also kept most UFA's away. For awhile it was, "no one makes more than our Captain" which was stupid because Lidstrom was taking YUGE discounts to stay here. So other UFA's felt low-balled. Why should they make less because Lidstrom chose to make less? Then it became "we're Detroit, look at our history and our playoff streak." We just need to change it all up. BUT, we'll be stuck with Blashill because Holland isn't going to hire a whole new staff, just to move up after next season and have a new GM fire and hire his chosen staff a year later. I agree with Chelly though, Babs treated certain players bad and made this place a not so good attraction. But moreso it was the combination of him and Holland. He's seems to be doing pretty well in TO.

American here, but if you look at International play, WC's, Wjr's, Olympics, who seems to ice the best players all the time? Canada. When it comes to Olympics, they have enough players to ice two teams that are better than any other team in the tourney. Behind them are the Americans. Say people are Euro-haters all you want, btw there is no denying that a player can come out of Europe and dominate the NHL, it's been done, but, the fact remains that "more" stars are born in North America. When comes to the quantity of quality players, Canada still is the best country to look to. For every one Euro star, you getting 10 NA stars. It's fact. Anyhow, with Patrick getting hurt again, do you think it impacts he draft order?

There really isn't a question that the NHL turns a blind eye to the Pengwhines in general, we witnessed it back in 09. We all know the story about the instigator, but it was the reasoning behind it that threw everyone overboard. When the NHL said that they need to have their stars playing in the finals, that showed right there that they are willing to throw the rules out for certain players so they can play. You can look at game 3 as well when they played almost a full minute with 6 guys on the ice without being called for a penalty. All the linesman was doing was yelling at the guy to get off the ice. Crosby can do whatever he wants. Wasn't there a time he skipped the All Star game and didn't receive the mandatory suspension?

They were known as the first team to have a 5 game sweep.
