    Looking ahead at expansion draft

Ok, now that we know what our roster will look like come expansion. Here is what I'd expect to be as our protected list and if it is, I agree with it: Nielsen Zetterberg Mantha Athanasiou Abdelkader Tatar Helm Dekeyser Green Jensen Mrazek ....maybe, MAYBE you replace one of the last three forwards with Nyquist. I've actually seen some mock-ups, cannot find them now, but I've seen the exact list above, but with Sheahan protected. I find it hard to believe that Sheahan garners a protect, but in a rebuild, who knows, ya? So in my list this leaves unprotected: Nyquist, Sheahan, Miller, Tangradi, Frk, Glendening, Nosek, Callahan, Street, Kronwall, Ericsson, Ouellet, Sproul, McIlrath, Lashoff, Howard, Coreau, Pasquale.
  2. Patiently waiting for the photoshop of Holland's head on Putin's shirtless body riding the horse...
  3. Honestly, I'm sure a lot of us have their finances in good order. Just because maybe you are in a different industry than others, doesn't make anyone any better than anyone else. On this forum, finances matter not, we are all Red Wings fans, we all have differing opinions and that is what make LGW.com the greatest Red Wings, who am I kidding, The Greatest HOCKEY forum on the entire world wide web. I am glad that you have made sound investments and have all your money in superb order. But that doesn't make anyone better than anyone else. That is what is wrong with the world today, particularly the USA, the "have's" make it a point to attempt to keep the "have-nots" under their shoe, when they should just build their little wall around their mansion and keep those thoughts to themselves. We are all human, we are all made the same way, we all bleed red. Just because some people make right turns and some make left and some may even do u-turns, when the time comes when our last breath is taken, it matters not how much wealth you have accumulated, it matters how wealthy you've lived your life. If wealth is all that makes you happy, then you are truly a poor person. I for one am rich beyond belief with my family, friends, colleagues and yes, even the users on here that I have exchanged words with (good and bad) the last 14 years. It have made my life even more enjoyable. My favorite sport is hockey, my team The Red Wings, why wouldn't I want to have great conversations across the world with these fine folks? Why wouldn't I value that just as much, if not more than I value the all-mighty dollar? Look at how much love Steve received here after he passed away, something tells me LWING, that when the day comes you pass, and all you've accumulated is wealth, you'll have people fighting over what they can have, rather than reveling in the memories of how much you meant to them and this world. It's easy to have friends when your portfolio is fat and you have millions of dollars, but if you're poor, or make a good modest living and still manage to have a handful of good friends, that is what defines you as a human being. Because they are your friends for who you are, not what you are or what you can give them. I'm not saying don't strive to be rich with money or be the best at what you do, but you also need to be rich in love and a good, down to earth person. Making fun of someone because they may not know the difference between a 401k and a 403b is just you looking down the tip of your nose at them. I make a great living, I've been employed at the same company for 22+ years, I get benefits, vacations, sick pay and enjoy what I do. I have a retirement fund AND a 401k, my wife has a 403b, do I know all the differences between them? No, not at all, I don't care and for someone to judge me or anyone else because of that just shows the type of "friends" you'll have in your lifetime, the type of person you are. If all you worry about is your bottom line and portfolio and treat people with less money or knowledge like they are below you, then you are in for a sad lonely life. I've been married 21 years and have three wonderful son's between the ages of 9 and 18. I own two homes, all my vehicles are paid off, and my son's college is paid for, I am by far not a millionaire, nor do I ever expect to be (come on lottery! ) but I can say, without hesitation, that I am rich beyond my means! I may not know all the wall street lingo like some, but when it come to life, I've hit the (everyone say it with me!) THE JUCK ******* POTT! Now God Damn it can we get back to hockey, f***!

I'd be happy as a pig in slop if Nyquist scored 25-30 goals. But, as we have seen this season and last, he hasn't. My point was, how long are we going to say, maybe next year he bounces back...maybe next year...maybe next year...maybe....not. Tatar has been the same way, although he has picked it up some lately, but again, how long. He'll probably get at least Nyquist money this off season, and then if he continues to only score 10-20 goals, then what, do we wait for his "playoff Franzen" to reappear? We're going to lose a player to Vegas, I hope its Nyquist, but either way, we need to shed salary and a few roster spots in order to start this rebuild the right way...but in reality, we all know Holland doesn't want a rebuild, he wants to hold on to these overpaid, under performing players and hope that, one year, their "playoff Franzen's" show back up. I was encouraged by the audio that he said that he believes that there are a few players in GR that are ready to be in Detroit within the next 6-18 months... I'm ready to build this core of players that will be together for the next dynasty, I'm so ready!
  5. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2017/03/red_wings_ken_holland_on_thoma.html ...as much as I'd like to see him in Detroit, he was acquired to add toughness to GR. Maybe if he does a good job down there, he'll get a contract offer and get to Detroit next season. But add this to the audio from yesterday where Holland said he got him to be in GR, I don't think we'll see Dylan here in Detroit. Possibly never...

And one day 2008 Franzen may show back up. We can't just keep holding on to players saying "this could be the year" and then saying "what if next year is the year..." over and over and over...

If he could do that, without trading the 1st, AA, Mantha or Larkin, then ya, I'm in. But....

Did you listen to the audio? He was acquired to be in GR and help the development of the young players down there by being tough....in GR.

Comparing The Wings to other disappointments?

I compare to that time when I wanted a puppy, but got a rock instead. That was disappointing... or when I thought I could afford a new truck, but settled for a used pinto...

...and that's that...Holland on 97.1... But Holland is staunch on this: The Red Wings are not burning things down and starting from scratch. He doesn’t think they need to. “We’re going to look at (things) this summer and figure out a way to get back in the mix. It’s a fine-line league, and right now, we’re (nine) points out of a playoff spot — it’s not like we’re 29 out,” Holland said. http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/ken-holland-appears-on-97.1-the-tickets-jamie-and-stoney-show?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

    I am The Game.
  14. I love looking at the draft class of players we've traded that were drafted by us. We all know that drafts are a gamble, but the year we selected Smith in the 1st round at #27, the 43rd pick was Subban. 16 D were selected that year before Subban... The year we traded down to choose Ferraro at #32, #33 was Ryan O'Reilly.
  15. My only question was if Holland asked for him, then he should be called up, ya? If he never gets called up and leaves as a ufa, then what was the point of him being involved. Did Florida have to move a contract, maybe adding Vanek would've put them over the max contracts allowed? Nevermind that, they gave 46 players under contract, max is 50. Holland must've asked for him..bring him up!
  16. So why was he part of the deal? It's not like they had to include him in the trade...we asked for him for some reason. I Hope NOT Just to stay in GR for a month...if so, then kudos Kenny, kudos... I'd expect Dylan to be called up, if not, we got even more raped on DL day.

Who sits for the new Dylan? Kronwall? Doubt it, so ya, he will take away from one of the kids. Kronwall won't sit for more than a game here and there because Ken Holland. All hail the 3rd worst team in the league with the highest payroll in the nhl! All hail the GM who refused to clear cap space off next year's roster, because what if Nyquist 2014 returns? Next season well be worse with an even higher payroll. All hail Ken Holland! He got us some low picks to chose another or two 5'11" d-men that weigh 156lbs.

Ken Holland wouldn't lose sleep if he did nothing or traded a 1st for a bottom 6 defender...he's in his own world where he thinks that this is the year "2008 Franzen" turns up. Nyquist will never be any better, Helm will never be any better, Ericsson is not going to show up one day and be lidstrom. Howard will never be a Cup goalie. The time has come to cut ties with these players that were so graciously and grossly overpaid and for far too long. Highest salary in the nhl, 3rd worst record...what does Holland do? Nothing to make room for a rebuild. But, we'll see if he can clear $12M or more over the summer...he has time, but I doubt he'll cut ties with anyone. And we'll still be the highest paid team and finish in the same group of basement dwellers...

    Grade the deadline

Toronto did it right in the last couple years...they moved cap and opened up nhl roster spots to bring in new, young players to rebuild with. Holland got a few extra draft picks that won't see the nhl until 2021...if ever. He'll have ZERO room for new, young players next season, and zero cap to sign anyone not already here that may take less to stay.

No rush but he did nothing to help a rebuild. He cleared zero cap or roster space for next season. Well have a higher payroll and the same (worse without vanek) team. Unless McIlrath has a miraculous summer of redefining the direction of his nhl career, we'll have the same D...Smith barely played anyhow. Same goalies, same full time forwards minus Vanek. Be ready for another abysmal season in 17-18. Plus still having the highest payroll in the nhl...again.

D- My reason explained in the deadline thread. Would've been an F, but he at least gather a couple extra picks. But when it comes to selling for a rebuild F, F and F.

    2017 NHLTrade Deadline Discussion

Holland failed. This was supposed to be a sale to help our rebuild. He was supposed to make it to where we can start calling players up to play here permanently. He did nothing to help in that. He did nothing to lighten the cap next season, unlike Toronto last season, Holland just dumped a few free agents that probably weren't going to come back here anyhow. Sure, he got a couple of draft picks, but we aren't going to see those players for about 5 years, if at all. Dumping UFA'S for picks is child's play, your grandmother could've done that. He needed to dump about $12m in salary and at least 3 roster spots that were to be taken up next season. Selling is dumping players that take up too much cap and valuable roster spots keeping the rebuild in Grand Rapids. We didn't need to sell off UFA'S for middle round picks. We needed to sell off millions of dollars for middle to low round picks. If 1st rounders weren't being offered to you for your coveted UFA'S then you may as well kept them for the remainder. The focus should've been dumping Nyquist, Helm, Ericsson, Howard, Green, contracts like that. Montreal was looking for a scoring winger, call them offer them Nyquist for a 4th or lower. At least 3 of those 5 mentioned should be on other teams today. What Holland did was not sell for a rebuild. He pawned off players he wasn't going to resign for picks that mean nothing and will probably never see the nhl, at least not until 2021. Meanwhile, we still only have $6M in cap space for next season...that is not selling to make room for the rebuild. That is failing your fans, your team, your owners and yourself. Look what Yzerman did with flip. That's selling. He cleared cap and a roster spot, for middle or lower pick. Just keep thinking Holland knows how to run a team, today was his chance to truly show he is a good gm. He failed miserably. I like draft picks and was excited in the direction he seemed to be going, but he values his players too much to truly rebuild. Hence the reason he was still trying to sign Smith yesterday. Like I said at least 3 roster spots and $12M should've been freed up off next seasons roster, but you're going to once again have the highest paid team in the league with damn near the worst record. And this is what you call selling for a rebuild... absolute fail.
