Red Wings trade Vanek to FLA for (D) Dylan McIlrath and Conditional 3rd Round Pick
LeftWinger replied to FireCaptain's topic in General
So why was he part of the deal? It's not like they had to include him in the trade...we asked for him for some reason. I Hope NOT Just to stay in GR for a month...if so, then kudos Kenny, kudos... I'd expect Dylan to be called up, if not, we got even more raped on DL day. -
Holland will not draft those players. Get ready for Liljegren.
-
Who sits for the new Dylan? Kronwall? Doubt it, so ya, he will take away from one of the kids. Kronwall won't sit for more than a game here and there because Ken Holland. All hail the 3rd worst team in the league with the highest payroll in the nhl! All hail the GM who refused to clear cap space off next year's roster, because what if Nyquist 2014 returns? Next season well be worse with an even higher payroll. All hail Ken Holland! He got us some low picks to chose another or two 5'11" d-men that weigh 156lbs.

Ken Holland wouldn't lose sleep if he did nothing or traded a 1st for a bottom 6 defender...he's in his own world where he thinks that this is the year "2008 Franzen" turns up. Nyquist will never be any better, Helm will never be any better, Ericsson is not going to show up one day and be lidstrom. Howard will never be a Cup goalie. The time has come to cut ties with these players that were so graciously and grossly overpaid and for far too long. Highest salary in the nhl, 3rd worst record...what does Holland do? Nothing to make room for a rebuild. But, we'll see if he can clear $12M or more over the summer...he has time, but I doubt he'll cut ties with anyone. And we'll still be the highest paid team and finish in the same group of basement dwellers...
-
Toronto did it right in the last couple years...they moved cap and opened up nhl roster spots to bring in new, young players to rebuild with. Holland got a few extra draft picks that won't see the nhl until 2021...if ever. He'll have ZERO room for new, young players next season, and zero cap to sign anyone not already here that may take less to stay.
-
No rush but he did nothing to help a rebuild. He cleared zero cap or roster space for next season. Well have a higher payroll and the same (worse without vanek) team. Unless McIlrath has a miraculous summer of redefining the direction of his nhl career, we'll have the same D...Smith barely played anyhow. Same goalies, same full time forwards minus Vanek. Be ready for another abysmal season in 17-18. Plus still having the highest payroll in the nhl...again.

D- My reason explained in the deadline thread. Would've been an F, but he at least gather a couple extra picks. But when it comes to selling for a rebuild F, F and F.

Holland failed. This was supposed to be a sale to help our rebuild. He was supposed to make it to where we can start calling players up to play here permanently. He did nothing to help in that. He did nothing to lighten the cap next season, unlike Toronto last season, Holland just dumped a few free agents that probably weren't going to come back here anyhow. Sure, he got a couple of draft picks, but we aren't going to see those players for about 5 years, if at all. Dumping UFA'S for picks is child's play, your grandmother could've done that. He needed to dump about $12m in salary and at least 3 roster spots that were to be taken up next season. Selling is dumping players that take up too much cap and valuable roster spots keeping the rebuild in Grand Rapids. We didn't need to sell off UFA'S for middle round picks. We needed to sell off millions of dollars for middle to low round picks. If 1st rounders weren't being offered to you for your coveted UFA'S then you may as well kept them for the remainder. The focus should've been dumping Nyquist, Helm, Ericsson, Howard, Green, contracts like that. Montreal was looking for a scoring winger, call them offer them Nyquist for a 4th or lower. At least 3 of those 5 mentioned should be on other teams today. What Holland did was not sell for a rebuild. He pawned off players he wasn't going to resign for picks that mean nothing and will probably never see the nhl, at least not until 2021. Meanwhile, we still only have $6M in cap space for next season...that is not selling to make room for the rebuild. That is failing your fans, your team, your owners and yourself. Look what Yzerman did with flip. That's selling. He cleared cap and a roster spot, for middle or lower pick. Just keep thinking Holland knows how to run a team, today was his chance to truly show he is a good gm. He failed miserably. I like draft picks and was excited in the direction he seemed to be going, but he values his players too much to truly rebuild. Hence the reason he was still trying to sign Smith yesterday. Like I said at least 3 roster spots and $12M should've been freed up off next seasons roster, but you're going to once again have the highest paid team in the league with damn near the worst record. And this is what you call selling for a rebuild... absolute fail.

No s*** we can't win every year. But we haven't won in what's going to be 8 years. Barely backed into the playoffs the last 3 years, missed them this year. Holland reeks of s***. Teams sure would expect happy with what we had....but it is HAD, not have. We've had nothing since 2013. If this team, come training camp, still has Nyquist, Ericsson, Howard, on it and Helm Brimfield played top 6, Kenny should be dealt with swiftly. He has f***ed the fans of this team far too long. Kenny it's over, you ******* suck. Should've just kept the players, all he is going to draft is a bunch of Nyquist playing mother f***ers...he'll blow the 1st as well in someone Italian league kid named Hok Ptew...
-
Kenny would've gotten a 4th and an AHL player...
-
He should throw Nyquist in the river then. I just want him gone, as soon as possible. He damn well better not be protected.
-
Just because we're done calling, doesn't mean gm's won't call Holland. If this day ends without Nyquist being dealt, Holland failed his fans and should be thrown in the river.
-
So, McIlrath is in the minors...ufa after the season...does he get called up, re-signed, protected? Someone is going to call in with a sweet offer near the deadline. Too many teams out there still need offensive help.
-
The condition is, if the Panthers make the playoffs, the 3rd becomes the 3rd the acquired from Arizona. Which means it becomes a late 2nd basically. I still think Nyquist will be dealt today.
-
I guess I'm ok with McIlrath though. I was hoping to be able to draft him when was drafted. For a moment I confused his name with the kid we traded to Florida for Bertuzzi.
-
I thought you were ******* joking. Not happy...once again, Holland proves he's not good. What a ******* waste of a ******* day... Jesus!
-
If it's only a 3rd, I would've just rather kept him...the good old Holland is back, he must've missed Oakland Hills.
-
What the f***? A 3rd? Are you ******* kidding me?
-
Freidman just said he's going to Florida...
-
Damn, I wish we were also selling Nyquist, Sheahan and Ericsson...and Howard. Kinda hard to sell hurt guys though....
-
How about Vanek for Petry?
-
I'm holding on to Vanek for Fowler.
-
I hoping for three more sales. Vanek, Sheahan, Nyquist.
