Well if we go by best chance to win, St. Louis has the best chance of landing him then. -

Well Toronto acquired Rychel...they keep taking guys I wish we could've gotten! Maybe we'll score with Stamkos. Maybe they'll steal him too!!! -
Mike McKee....nuff said.
-
Ok, it was still an obscure pick.... the last two though...SHEESH! Cannot wait to see 5th-7th! Detroit Red Wings select Hok Ptew! Just going by what it says when I google his name, it says 150.
-
Problem is, the last 3 picks are all picks that could've been taken in the 5th-7th. Should've pick three kids with more certain futures. Not 150lb. defensemen.
-
Can't wait Mick to say Alfons & Gasteon now! I got it you take it....oh wait another wasted pick that won't make the NHL....come on July 1!
-
I think I'd rather fleece Anaheim for Fowler TBH! I'm betting Holland goes with more obscure picks the rest of the way.
-
They're going to have $24M to split up amongst our RFA'S and new UFA's. There will be new Red Wings on July 1, I am confident.
-
Holland should be getting ready to fleece Calgary with Howard and our 4th, for Wideman a 4th and a 5th!
-
I'm sorry but if I knew Holland was going to use the 53rd pick to draft a Czech that is 6' and only 150lbs. Arizona could've just kept it. What a total waste of a pick. Kindl was also top euro dman when drafted...this is a waste of a pick. Just like Kindl was.
-
...so, did Holland blow the 2nd round?
-
Most penalized player in the OHL last year. 146 mins.

I think Kenny should be shopping for that D-man HARD right now, before July 1. The more attractive Detroit looks, the more likely we can land Stamkos. I mean, we have Larkin, AA, Dekeyser, Mrazek, Mantha, we still have (even though he's older and slowing down) one of the best two way players in the NHL in Zetterberg, who can actually be more effective as a 2nd line winger. I know Holland is pretty loyal, but he can always dangle the "A" out there with the chance of becoming "C" when Z retires. Holland has to not only make a huge top dollar offer, but he has to make this team look much more attractive than the others. If we could get a deal done with Stevie for a sign and trade, that would be awesome. $11M for 8 years, then come up with a nice package deal. -
I read this as him saying he's glad he isn't in the East anymore and he won't have to play against him. Although he may be joking about him being "in the West," I believe he was jsut saying how glad he won't have to play against him at all. Pav was one of, if not the most respected player in the NHL.

Hey, Toronto may have the inside track being his home town, and it wouldn't be the first time we lost out to that. But at least we have the money to offer him the world. Like I said, there's only one thing keeping him from becoming a Red Wing, himself. If he doesn't want to come here, it doesn't matter if we offered him $15M. If we don't get him, there are more options available. I hope we do, but it's not like when we lost out on Suter, Minnesota went on to win Cups. Last I checked, they scored huge in the FA market a lot since and they still have the same amount of Cups as we do since 2012. Toronto may win a Cup before Detroit, but not within 5 years and maybe, maybe not within the 7 year contract he may sign there.
-
Let us not forget that even though Toronto will have Matthews and Buffalo has Eichel, we have someone named Larkin that just happens to be nearly as good as Eichel. Plus, Stamkos said how much he enjoyed and felt chemistry with him at the all star game. My point is, we have our pluses too that are an attraction.
-
I for one will not compare the two. Especially if it means we land a #1 center and then some. The #20 was a bonus.

Dennis Viale?

Holland wasn't GM at that time.Re: Stamkos We will see come July 1. The only thing preventing Holland from signing Stamkos, is Stamkos. We have more than enough cash to get him here. -

Of the teams listed in "The Running" I believe only Detroit can guarantee him the #1 center and superstar position. This will be his team. Toronto will have Matthews, Buffalo has Eichel. It's either take Tampas offer or come to Detroit IMO. unless he would rather be #2 or #3 on another team. -
This all happened while I was on the road, so obviously I couldn't log on to comment until now. Holland fleeced Arizona. But think about it this way, the high end prospect we gave up was Chychrun. But it was a surprise to get a 1st and a 2nd back, not to mention a player. Now trade Howard and there will be tons of cash to sign whomever they want!

Shouldn't have to eat any salary, how about an even swap Howard for Wideman? Or throw Ericsson in there and reatain a couple million from one or the other... -

I think Vanek is going to go somewhere with a better chance at winning now. I'm thinking Anaheim, Florida, Montreal (with a healthy Carey price) maybe even a $1M deal to Chicago or Pittsburgh.
