Free Press: Pavel Datsyuk to return to Russia following Playoffs
LeftWinger replied to jdwheelz's topic in General
absolutely agree about the contract. Holland must, MUST trade that contract if Pav decides to retire. I understand a bit not being able to rid yourself of Ericsson's contract or even Z's, but to just let a player retire and NOT dump that contract...not even TRY to? That is completely unacceptable. GM's do it throughout the league, swap dead contracts around in order to free up or take up cap. Just imagine this sceanrio....Holland trades Pav's $7.5M, trades Smith ($2.75M) Franzen on LTIR ($3.9M) and is able to dump Howards $5.25M....add all that to the projected $17M in cap space we have already for next season...WOW! Thats nearly $37M in cap space before we re-sign our RFA's....that's a s*** ton of money to spend on pursuing what we need. If Holland doesn't trade that contract, he should be fired. Someone will take it for cap floor issues, absolutely. -
Ugh....you're right....Holland will strike out on Stamkos and Yandle (Suter and Parise part duex) and then rush to give Richards and KFQ contracts with raises and NTC's as a panic move...its all so clear!

Why not Detroit? You use the example of Buffalo as an "up and coming" team, but isn't Detroit also in that category? I dislike Holland's (lack of) moves as much as the next guy, but with Datsyuk most likely leaving, not that he was the problem, but he is about 50% of what he once was, that makes the team younger, opens a spot up to sign someone like Stamkos and if we cut ties with our other UFA's, that leaves a spot to get a #1 defender plus bring up some more kids permanently. Detroit is indeed an up and coming team, Nyquist and Tatar are 30 goal scorers. They had setbacks this season, as did most of our players, but I equally blame the coaching system they had to play under. They are still young. You have Mrazek, Larkin, Mantha, Anthanasiou, Dekeyser, Sheahan...still have Pulkkinen and Jurco. Like the term or not, Abby is in his prime and can still net you 20 goals. If Helm comes back for a nice price, he can and will get you 15-20 goals. You have Bertuzzi, Svechnikov, Saarijarvi, Russo and Hicketts in GR as well. The speed on this team is unmatched, Larkin, AA and Helm alone have to be three of the fastest skaters in the NHL. This team is up and coming, there is no reason why Stamkos wouldn't at least consider coming here. He also said he enjoyed paying with Larkin at the All Star game...not that he would say something negative about it or anyone else, but it does make Detroit at least a bit more interesting for him... Not to turn this into a Stamkos debate, but his name had been brought up as possibly coming here especially if Pav leaves and we can shed that cap hit...even if he doesn't its still possible. -

no brainer, you trade the contract. If you don't, shame on you, for once again screwing the fans of this team, Ken Holland! Good Bless you Datsyuk, thanks for the highlights and the advent of the term "Datsyukian" into the English language. -
Holland is still thinking that 2008 Franzen will return soon... Honestly, I don't understand the thinking of this guy, and Blashill for that matter. Your top 6 playoff roster should be: Larkin - Z - Abby AA - Datsyuk - Mantha ...and I even second guess Z as the #1 center. How about Larkin - Datsyuk - Abby & AA - Helm - Mantha?
-
How is he a defensive liability? He's a +1 on a team that is -13 goal differential? He is by far one of the best players on the ice for the Wings. Everytime he is out there, more times than not, he makes something happen. 5 on 5, PP, PK...he makes s*** happen.
-
This just makes me believe that Holland controls who comes and goes and plays...probably why Babcock left. No reason why Blashill would be playing s***ty vets unless he's being told too...it's high time Holland and his entourage are let go. New blood is needed now! Holland is also the reason Pav is leaving early, IMO. He signed the 3 year deal with the promise he'd get him to the Cup again and great players to play with. He failed last season to get him someone and Pav wanted to leave. Failed again, Pav's done with the bull...

Honestly, Larkin and AA are already better than those two. They need to be the focus rather than Nyquist and Tatar... -

No, his contract was only 3 years. Should be no penalty if he retires from another team. Trade his contract to a floor team...if Holland does not, then he should be fired!Stupid rule if true, no reason to charge the trading team. Either way, Holland needs to find a taker or else he'll screw this club for next season. -

In that article, it says that the Red Wings told him they will not trade his contract to relieve the cap. Holland, in his obsessive loyalty will eat the $7.5M hit for the year and handicap his team for no reason but to stay loyal. f*** Holland, he needs to be fired! -

http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/pavel-datsyuk-thinks-he-is-done-playing-in-the-nhl-after-this-season?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Best trade his contract to a cap floor team, or be handcuffed all next season. If Holland doesn't do this he is worse than this season have proven. -
Did we lose our way in or did Boston lose their way out million-dollar question... which loss was more catastrophic today us losing on an empty-net goal or Boston getting blown out?
-
I guess if you think about it the Red Wings did what they had to do to just make it yes we lost the last two games but honestly it's not our fault that Boston s*** the bed today. We are lucky that Boston lost but I guess in the grand scheme of things they should have gotten one more Point than we did the last 82 games. I still think we're a pretty bad team but you never know what'll happen. And for all the grief I have given him Darren Helm was clutch down the stretch. As was Jimmy Howard. I still believe there are a few players we could do without and next year but this group did a good enough job when they had to and Boston didn't. Maybe they sneak in a Philly loses out. We may not win the Cup this year but for the way the team played all year long just extending the playoff streak is like us winning something. It was absolutely one of the worst seasons in a long long time but we made it and all that does not matter now. Let's see what happens. Let's go Red Wings!
-
It was stupid to not have Mantha in, guess they are done with both Jurco and Pulkkinen. If that's the case, trade them both. We all know who needs to go over the summer, we'll see if it gets happens.

The Red Wings owe Ottawa a TV dinner.

That's Abby, you're 7 year $4M+ per year!
