Is Smith in for sure? Can't watch tonight, sO I'll be listening....I sure hope Paul Woods doesn't make crap up again tonight! Seriously, I tease, I tease! Pre-game on 97.1 right now, they are really talking up Jensen. Ken Daniels says one of the best puck movers in the system. I agree! I sure hope he gets in tonight. Kenny says they are still waiting to hear from Blashill if Tangradi or Jensen are getting in....hope he isn't making these things up! He is the TV guy, so maybe its just radio guys that make things up! OK, OK, that's the last one!

Cam Talbot signs 3 year $12.5M extension with Oilers

I think if Petr gets a contract similar to this in wages, it would be a bargin. One helluva raise for him, but a nice bargain for us!

I am not sure his trade value can get any lower can it? At least he still has time to turn his game around a bit to finish the season stronger. If he can, then maybe his value would increase a bit, but right now, it seems about as low as it has been his entire career...

not to keep this going, but am I not to believe what the radio commentator says because I didn't see it with my own eyes? It's not like I was BS'ing with buddies and they said he let in a softie. But anyhow, I hear you, I just wish he could make that save more often than he doesn't, especially early during games, it just rattles his confindence and then its all down hill. Plus, a quick comment on Z and Blash, when's the last time any player or coach blamed a loss on a certain individual? Of course they're going to say everything positive that they can. It's just that I've come to expect at least one weak goal from Jimmy each time he starts, and he usually does it early and then his confidence is gone, or he does it late when the team really needs that big save. And you can get that by watching or listening to the game. Mrazek is playing better now, don't get me wrong, I wish Jimmy was playing like he did in Oct/Nov because Mrazek can't start all the games and we need our backup to stand up more often.

Welp, I guess since Nyquist isn't working out, we'll just have to trade him! (see other thread for that! ) I'd like Pulk with Dats, but that puts Ricahrds on the 4th...I don't see Abby going there, so I guess it'll be Helm - Glen - Rich

Larkin - Datsyuk - Richards Nyquist - Zetterberg - Abdelkader Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco Helm - Glendening - Pulkkinen maybe?

The thing is, you cannot deny the chemistry that Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco have. I agree, maybe someone other than Helm should be on Pav's line though..how about Pulkkinen? I really had high hopes for him this season, I really hope that once back to 100%, he can kick it in gear. Richards-Dats-Pulkkinen? Where does Nyquist go? Abby? Only room for one with Z and Larkin. Do you move Richards to the 4th as well as Helm? or just keep Pulk there...

    ROY according to LGW

Hopefully Larkin can keep it going and not start getting tired from the longer season....so far so good! If he can rattle off a nice run like he started the year, he could close that gap by time the season ends. Of course we need the rest to slow down at the same time. No matter what, how lucky are we? This kid could very well be another 20+ year lifer in Detroit. What are the odds that Panarin (sp) plays 20 years in Chicago, if at all? Chicago loves to cycle through players often....maybe he will, but I think given the age of both players, Larkin has the better odds of playing 20 years.

SLAP! Love for Jensen to get in tonight! But then that means that Smith is too hurt to go. Meh, I'll take it for a good tryout for Jensen. LGW!

    Joakim Andesson on Waivers

I heard that Smith may not be able to go, so Jensen would get in if that is the case.... ....Prime, I certainly hope he doesn't get traded or claimed off waivers! UGH! He made such a great case during pre-season to be in the NHL, I hope he stays with Detroit, but alas, it is a business. I'd hate to see him go, but if it meant getting someone back that would help more, so be it....unless they re-sign Q, and have to expose those 3 (XO, Sproul, Jensen) and that would suck!

1/23 GDT : Anaheim Ducks at Red Wings, 7:00 EST

I agree, that is why I said, that it sounds like he gave up a couple of softies, which is what he is known for. I didn't NOT watch because Jimmy was in net, I couldn't watch it because I was driving to Detroit for work, my commute is 230 miles. I listened and all I had to go by was "Jimmy wanted that one back" and then reading this GDT. I said it sounded like he gave up that goal that he needed to stop, which he always seems to give up...even in my last post, I said it doesnt mean he played the entire game bad, but gave up that stinker that he should've saved or "wanted back." But ya, it does seem that when Jimmy gets in, we lose because of him giving up 3 goals on 6 shots, 4 on 12 or when he lets in that back breaker that he should've had. It doesn't take a professional to know that and even though he may have played solid for most of the game, he always seems to give up that soft one....and that's what I commented on. I didn't come up with it myself, I commented on Paul Woods comments about it. I value everyone's opinion on here, those of us that have been around for a decade or more all seem pretty knowledgeable about the sport. Moreso than some of the beat writers or bloggers, et al. I could understand if I made it up, but I simply commented on what I listened to on the radio and what I read here. Jimmy let in a "Jimmy" type goal, ie. a soft goal he should've had, at a time when they needed a big save. Period. Don't yell at me, yell at Paul Woods then. But, yes, I am NOT a Jimmy fan, so like I have been saying for years, he is done. Done in the sense that he wasn't great before, lost his starting job, gets/got paid too much money, and seems to never get over his soft goal issues. But just to reiterate, I didn't watch, but I did listen to the broadcast, so yes, I can comment and yes I do know.

1/23 GDT : Anaheim Ducks at Red Wings, 7:00 EST

Yep. Don't know why Paul Woods even has a job. I should definitely listen to the "pros" that all get the same news clip and they all report the same thing. Ever get the 500 different tweets that all say the same thing? No matter...Howard Slappies will slap. I will take the word of the guy who is actually calling the game over someone who reports off of a news blip. But you're right the guy who writes for Mlive, knows a ton more than Paul Woods. Thanks, I know now not to listen to the radio broadcast because they will say things that totally aren't happening. I will just wait to read my info from mlive or freep. Cool.... BTW, usually when a commentator says a goalie would like to have that one back, doesn't mean he played an entire bad game, but it does mean he gave up a stinker goal that he shouldn't have. Which is Jimmy's problem, and which is what i said in my original post, that it sounded like Jimmy gave up a couple of softies....again. But keep holding on to him, he'll make a comeback....

1/23 GDT : Anaheim Ducks at Red Wings, 7:00 EST

LMAO, listened to it while commuting to Detroit, but when Paul Woods says that "Jimmy wishes he had that one back..." I tend to believe that Jimmy gave up a Jimmy goal. I will take the word of Paul Woods....plus I read a lot of the post in the GDT, not very positive for Jimmy either...but, ya, Jimmy played well! Sorry don't need to watch it, I'll take the word of professionals, and pretty much know that when Jimmy starts, we lose. what's his GAA the last 4 games now? Like I said, we can bring Coreau up and at least if he plays this bad, it is to be expected and he's not getting a $5M to give up so many goals. He may have been "alright" but he cannot make that save when the Wings need it....he is not big time, he gives up the soft goal all the time, and at the wrong time. Again, this is come to be the norm with Jimmy, so I am not surprised when it happens. He is done.

I am all for trading Howard now and letting Coreau come up and play (he can't be any worse than Jimmy is now) -or- if we must keep Jimmy around until summer, trade him then and try to sign Jhonas Enroth on July 1 to play behind Petr...

I guess "hindering" was used in the wrong sense, maybe "hindering" their rise to the NHL is what I meant. Last season, even Holland himself said, he is not going to keep XO here at the expense of waiving Kindl. So right there, we kept Kindl at the expense of a NHL ready XO. Andersson as well. We could've had AA up here all season long, we could've had Pulkkinen all last season instead of Andersson/Cleary. I understand you don't want them sitting in the pressbox, and that would hinder them, but it's just funny that Holland refused to waive these guys because of their value to the team, when in reality, this team is the only place they had any value, and we see where that value is now. Personally this season I would've like to have AA and XO/Jensen (who IMO, earned a spot on this roster out of pre-season, but we couldn't waive our MVP Kindl) up here along with Larkin and Marchenko all season long. They would've gotten plenty of games in thus far and been more valuable to the team than K/Andy and Cleary all of which passed through waivers... I am glad he finally did it, and hope to see some more kids here sooner rather than later! I just found it funny that keeping these guys here over our NHL ready kids, did nothing for us, other than keep kids out of the NHL, and when it came time to trim some fat, 29 other teams thought just as high of these guys as most of us did/do. Thanks, but no thanks...

Didn't watch the game, but it sounds like Howard may have given up a couple of softies...again...I know Petr cannot start all the games, but its getting to the point with Jimmy to where he isn't worth keeping around as a backup. The reason everyone gives to NOT trade him sooner rather than later is that we wouldn't have a competent backup...well we don't now, Coreau can come up and give up 4+ goals a game when he gets a start, and for a crap ton less money! Sure wish we could've seen this downfall coming a few years ago coicinding with the rise of Petr....oh wait, some did. Should've traded Jimmy two deadlines ago when his stock was high and his contract still "looked" good, now we're going to have to eat some of his contract to whomever we trade him to. Howard for Lupul in contract swaps look good right about now!

    ROY according to LGW

Whats funny is, the guy only has 14 more points that Larkin, it's not like he is blowing Larkin out of the water in that catagory. Will he slow down, maybe not, but Larkin could go on a spree like he did to start the year and close that gap a bit...but everyone is talking that Panarin is "so far" ahead of Larkin, when in fact, 14 points is NOT unsurpassable. The fact that he was chosen to go to the All-Star Game speaks volumes of how he is viewed in the NHL, plus the fact that he is a 19 yo pure rookie, leading his team in points and the +/- speaks volumes too. I know the +/- stat is not the best stat, but since Panarin is only a +8 and Kane is +23, shows me that Panarin isn't on the ice in all the important situations as Kane and, in our case, Larkin is. I am very bias and want him to win, but in reality he does have a strong case for actually winning it....that being said, so did Yzerman over Barrasso, Fedorov over Belfour and Zetterberg over Jackman... One other thing we may be missing, what is the amount of games needed to be played by a goalie to qualify for having a rookie season, last year Mrazek played in 29 games, started 26. If he didn't qualify as a rookie last season, he could be up for it this season, right now he sits at .932 SV% and 2.03 GAA...3rd and 5th in the NHL repsectively. If not ROY then serious Vezina talk if he continues this pace...
