It's Jensen time! Now, let's hope he actually gets in while he is here! Who rotates with him in your opinion? Man I wish it was E!

I am all for trading Howard now and letting Coreau come up and play (he can't be any worse than Jimmy is now) -or- if we must keep Jimmy around until summer, trade him then and try to sign Jhonas Enroth on July 1 to play behind Petr...

I guess "hindering" was used in the wrong sense, maybe "hindering" their rise to the NHL is what I meant. Last season, even Holland himself said, he is not going to keep XO here at the expense of waiving Kindl. So right there, we kept Kindl at the expense of a NHL ready XO. Andersson as well. We could've had AA up here all season long, we could've had Pulkkinen all last season instead of Andersson/Cleary. I understand you don't want them sitting in the pressbox, and that would hinder them, but it's just funny that Holland refused to waive these guys because of their value to the team, when in reality, this team is the only place they had any value, and we see where that value is now. Personally this season I would've like to have AA and XO/Jensen (who IMO, earned a spot on this roster out of pre-season, but we couldn't waive our MVP Kindl) up here along with Larkin and Marchenko all season long. They would've gotten plenty of games in thus far and been more valuable to the team than K/Andy and Cleary all of which passed through waivers... I am glad he finally did it, and hope to see some more kids here sooner rather than later! I just found it funny that keeping these guys here over our NHL ready kids, did nothing for us, other than keep kids out of the NHL, and when it came time to trim some fat, 29 other teams thought just as high of these guys as most of us did/do. Thanks, but no thanks...

GDT 1/23 GDT : Anaheim Ducks at Red Wings, 7:00 EST

Didn't watch the game, but it sounds like Howard may have given up a couple of softies...again...I know Petr cannot start all the games, but its getting to the point with Jimmy to where he isn't worth keeping around as a backup. The reason everyone gives to NOT trade him sooner rather than later is that we wouldn't have a competent backup...well we don't now, Coreau can come up and give up 4+ goals a game when he gets a start, and for a crap ton less money! Sure wish we could've seen this downfall coming a few years ago coicinding with the rise of Petr....oh wait, some did. Should've traded Jimmy two deadlines ago when his stock was high and his contract still "looked" good, now we're going to have to eat some of his contract to whomever we trade him to. Howard for Lupul in contract swaps look good right about now! -
Whats funny is, the guy only has 14 more points that Larkin, it's not like he is blowing Larkin out of the water in that catagory. Will he slow down, maybe not, but Larkin could go on a spree like he did to start the year and close that gap a bit...but everyone is talking that Panarin is "so far" ahead of Larkin, when in fact, 14 points is NOT unsurpassable. The fact that he was chosen to go to the All-Star Game speaks volumes of how he is viewed in the NHL, plus the fact that he is a 19 yo pure rookie, leading his team in points and the +/- speaks volumes too. I know the +/- stat is not the best stat, but since Panarin is only a +8 and Kane is +23, shows me that Panarin isn't on the ice in all the important situations as Kane and, in our case, Larkin is. I am very bias and want him to win, but in reality he does have a strong case for actually winning it....that being said, so did Yzerman over Barrasso, Fedorov over Belfour and Zetterberg over Jackman... One other thing we may be missing, what is the amount of games needed to be played by a goalie to qualify for having a rookie season, last year Mrazek played in 29 games, started 26. If he didn't qualify as a rookie last season, he could be up for it this season, right now he sits at .932 SV% and 2.03 GAA...3rd and 5th in the NHL repsectively. If not ROY then serious Vezina talk if he continues this pace...
-
I don't think its bias picking Larkin, he is tied for the goal scoring lead, leads in +/- and really isn't that far behind in points. If Larkin had a player like Kane to pass the puck to, then it would look different in the points department. It's going to be close, but I am used to Detroit being screwed by the NHL when it comes to ROY....Yzerman, Fedorov and Zetterberg come to mind...so it'll be Kane. Oh, I mean Panera Bread.
-
guess nobody really wants our scrubs then...here is the sad thing, we've been hindering the young players by playing guys in our NHL roster that nobody else in the NHL would even take for free...why have we been mediocre again?
-
True, but right now they only have 6 D-men and when Andy clears or gets claimed, they will only have 12 forwards WITH Richards. They could actually bring up 2 players, one of each, to fill the roster. I vote for Jensen and Mantha!
-
No reason, did I say sit him the entire 4 weeks? No, I said rotate him for some rest. I agree he has been playing good, but he still makes boneheaded giveaway's every game. Who else are you going to sit for Jensen, just E? I'd love that, but E is not going to sit, so do you sit Marchy, who seems to be playing much better than E and Smith at times? I was just suggesting ways of getting some looks at another kid...

1/22 GDT : Detroit Red Wings - Buffalo Sabres, 7:00 EST

Lest we forget disney.com 's 2 point night as well! Super win....I'll have to say I've seen a player get waived and still play for the team the same day....I mean what if he got claimed mid way through the game? I guess you'd have to pull him off the ice in that situation...oh well! -
I sure hope we get to see Jensen, its my opinion, he is the better of the 3 down there, PLUS if gets in, we'd have 3 RH'd d-men playing! Crazy! I'd bring him up and give either E or Smith some games off here and there for the next month or so...
-
who? Oh Russo...
-
if Jensen comes up, he ain't going back...it'll spell the end of one of our guys already here...I hope its E! and yes I am just living in my world right now, leave me be!
-
we all know its a prelude to Stamkos and Drouin! Right?

Red Wings waive Joakim Andersson https://t.co/GnzcIRv2u3 per George as well...wonder if something is brewing? You think our former coach will claim him? Is it time for some excitement around here? Get ready guys, I think Holland is going to have something for us!!

injured Kronwall out 2-4 Weeks after Knee Scope
LeftWinger replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Hmmmmm, 4 weeks possibly? Well, Marchy gets in of course, but maybe its also time to see another kid in town. Sit Ericsson and let XO, Sproul or Jensen come up for a bit, then switch back and forth with E...or whoever else needs a break. I'd give Jensen the assignment, we need to see if he is NHL ready... -
A bit late to the convo, but does this spell the end of The Drew in Detroit? I could see Kenny offering him a one year deal, but letting him know that he will spend most of it in GR. This could be a career ending thing for him, not because of the injury itself, I am sure he'll recover enough to play, but because I don't know how much other teams would be interested in him or if Holland is just ready to move forward with the kids. Either way Get Well Soon Drew! are we 100% sure that Bill does NOT have a voodoo doll of Drew hanging from his mirror? Seems pretty coincidental that right around the same time he starts up with Miller, he gets the concussion, then when he comes back, this happens....Hmmmmmmmm

GDT 1/20 GDT : St. Louis Blues at Red Wings, 8:00 EST

Maybe a little Shatty swap prior to the game? Lets Go Wings! BTW, if those are current line, YAYAYA for Helm going back to the 4th. I am not making fun of him either, he and Glenny together are a pretty deadly checking unit. I like Helm on the 4th all day long. -
Cam Talbot signs 3 year $12.5M extension with Oilers
LeftWinger replied to chaps80's topic in General
I think you can only bury $950,000, if so the he'd still have a big cap hit on our payroll...i may be wrong though. -
Yes, but it only shows IR for those two not LTIR....https://hockeyscap.com/teams/blues unlike on our roster, Franzen and Miller show LTIR and their cap's are not counted...https://hockeyscap.com/teams/redwings There is something I am probably missing or not understanding. Whatever works for them I guess...
-
I agree, I thought Q was overpaid, E was overpaid, Howard was overpaid...I do believe Abby and Nyquist got too much per and I am afraid Holland is going to blow a wad on Helm and overpay him to miss the net and hit the goalie in the logo on a nightly basis. Howard was never worth, nor has he ever earned his $5M+ per season...I don't want to hear All-Star blah blah either, he was third string, he was also third string at the olympics as well. I don't even think he played a game over there...I like Holland, but he sure does overpay out of loyalty....I wish he would stop. It's time to pay for performance... Speaking of over the cap, how the hell is St. Louis able to still operate legally being $3M+ over the cap limit? Noone is on LTIR, they are literally $3M+ over the cap, they should be forced to waive player(s) until they are compliant... I'm probably missing/not understanding something when it comes to the CBA, but it just doesn't seem right...

The Post....Ciccarelli bought and absolutely destroyed the lore and attraction of it.... The Post was THE place to hang out with players...they used to let Bob Probert DJ there after the games! ...taken from a local review of the place when it was turning 30 years old. Dino has sinced painted all the grafitti covered walls and bathrooms (which sometimes rivaled CBGB's bathrooms, for real!) He kept the old wooden bartop, I guess to pay tribute to The Post, but the allure of it was all the writing on the walls, it just felt down and dirty, but you couldn't find a better time after an event at the Joe!

Good to see! Too bad that one less destination for Jimmy now! CRUD! I remember listening to a Rags/Wings game on the radio last year and Ken Kal pronounced his name Talbert all the time...I tweeted Ken and reminded him it's Talbot. Not that it mattered, but I grew up with a kid who's last name was Talbott and he always said he hated when people pronounced it Talbert, so each time Kenny said it, it drove me nuts. He tweeted me back telling me he is trying to say it correctly....funny thing is, for the rest of the game he said it correctly, but you could hear him slow down and make sure he pronounced it Talbot...good times! -
I am a huge DD fan, but I also agree that he needs to "grow" into the game more. Whatever he is listed at, he doesn't play like he can control it. He plays kind of lanky and off balance....hopefully he grows more and get more balanced out there. He also has no mean streak in him, that is for sure!
