So, another thought of mine would be to have Sergei sign a one game contract to play for the Red Wings and then retire in the jersey he belongs in....if it won't be retired, at least let him retire in it. One game, league minimum, retire. We will see then, when he doesn't get booed...#91 may not belong in the rafters, but #91 belongs on the JLA ice...one more time.

To sum it up, every year since 1987....sans 90.

Detnews.com says Wings are waiting on Holmstroms decision.... No Homer, no....

If the rumor is that Minn wants Hedman and Malone for Heatly, we will be in trouble if they do it....If I were Holland and Stevie is willing to give up Hedman and Malone, I would be throwing Franzen PLUS MORE his way and hope that Steve wants some former Wings down there!!!!

Our Current Defense / What Holland Can Do *merged

Total different players...they can and will both be here eventually. I do like Dekeyser and think he is just a step behind Smith in developing. Holland may or may not pick him up. Either way, the defense looks very bright! Kronwall, Quincey, Ericsson, Smith, Sproul, Ouellet, Mckee and the possibilty of DeKeyser....that is a nice lineup when you take a step back and look at it. Very nice future without Suter/Weber or Yandle...Wings D looks hot in 3-4 years! -

I have to believe Holland is waiting for the CBA to be renewed before he takes a stab at a defender (trade or UFA.) He only has 6 right now, he needs one more for sure to complete his NHL roster. With Nyquist, Brunner and Smith getting full time jobs, along with Kindl having a top 6 spot (thus far,) I find it hard to believe that Holland will bring up yet another rookie to fill his NHL roster... He has to eyeing a few 2nd tier defenders aw well as still looking at Yandle. I just think he is going to see if teams will be looking to have to dump some salaries after the CBA... No it won't. Because Holland would be a dumbass to trade Smith. Again, the ONLY way I ever want to hear Smith evening whispered in a trade scenario is if Weber was coming back in exchange. Even then I would be hesitant to trade Smith. The future of Detroit's D is Smith, McKee, Sproul, and hopefully Dekeyser. Kronner will be the leader and it will be either Quincey or Ericsson to be here long term as well... -
I may be chiming in a little late, but if the Isles do move west, then with Winnipeg already west, but still in the East, that would mean TWO teams would move East, and those teams would most likely be Columbus and Detroit.
-
I like these lines. Considering that there are still 4 forwards, and we can only keep two of them, which two do you trade? Eaves, Miller, Emmerton or Mursak...I guess I would trade the two that bring me the best draft picks and that is up in the air. Either a team wants youth more or experience...its a tough call. Nah, Franzen is a 3rd liner. Only put him on the top powerplay.

It was proven last season that Cleary is no good unless he is on the 3rd line with Helm. He is NOT a top 6 forward!

Ok, so, lets sign Arnott and Kubina (and of course Abby) and hit the road running... We'd have to lose three of Emmerton/Mursak/Miller/Eaves/Cleary though... but I do believe Arnott brings more to this team than Emmerton or Mursak...unfortunately for them. Of course I think I heard Nyquist has options left to be sent down, so that is always a possibilty to start the season to see who steps it up... Trading Mursak/Emmerton would bring a couple of draft picks and if they to dump one more of Miller/Eaves or Cleary that would also bring a fairly nice draft pick, if Nyquist just tears up training camp and GR... FORWARDS Damien Brunner ($1.350m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Mikael Samuelsson ($3.000m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Danny Cleary ($2.800m) Justin Abdelkader ($1.250m) / Jason Arnott ($3.750m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / Drew Miller ($0.838m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Pavel Kubina ($4.550m) Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Brendan Smith ($0.875m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) ------ SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,733,712; BONUSES: $425,000 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $5,466,288 -
Well according to our favorite hockeyyinsiderr, Pitt has offered Doan a 4 year $24M contract....$10M the first year, $8M the 2nd, $4M the 3rd and $2M the last... Thoughts? Should Holland offer something like this?

No, this guy was mentioned on here around the same time Brunner was first mentioned... Edit: Jonas Holos was his name...wonder what is up with him.... Yes....yes....and yes. -
Wow! that would be a lot of trading!
-
I'd love to have Ryan here, but I think the Wings should make a trade for Yandle and then hope he can sway Doan our way... edit: Still would LOVE for Holland to sign Welsh to an offer sheet just to get him in the organization! Him along with Sheahan, Smith, (hopefully) DeKeyser and soon enough McKee will solidify the future for sure! I love College hockey players making a big splash! (except I hope Schultz fails epically!) Lest I forget Abdelkader! The future so bright, I gotta wear shades!

our current defense is incomplete...there are only 6 of them. Got to have that #7 guy. I wonder who it will be? What was that guy over in Europe that the Wings had interest in? There was a thread about it, but I cannot seem to find it... I know he had an O with a slash through it or something like that... -
Feds has wanted back in the the Winged Wheel since he left...he was a little mad that Holland didn't re-acquire him in 2008... Well, that is my little fantasy at least! I too will be SUPER excited to see #91 out there with the Wings again...at least in some form. Too bad he didn't re-sign here for a year to finish his career. I liked the Modano signing, but Feds would have been great!

What no Kozlov? Must still be pissed they traded him... anyway, if somehow, someway Vladdy skates out onto the ice, the crowd will bring down Comerica! Could you imagine, Vladdy in full uniform, skating in the #16 again? referring to the Fedorov thread, asking our feelinsg about him....guess we will soon see the fans feelings! I missed it, was Chelios playing?

Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?
LeftWinger replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
anyway...centcouger (new account?) I think Detroit is still a desirable place for UFA's or nobody would ever come here...ever. There has been plenty of UFA's pass on Detroit throughout the last 20 years, has it made Detroit any less dominant? No, and the fact that Mary Kate and Ashley chose to play close to family (for more money too mind you) does not mean Detroit is not a destination desired by most NHL players. It is only the situation that are in and looking for that leads them to where they go. Ask yourself this if Detroit was such a horrible destination, why is it when players are asked to submit a list of 5 or 6 teams they would waive their NTC/NMC for 95% of the time (if not 100%) Detroit is on their list...Seems to me I rarely see the likes of Minnesota or St. Louis on anyone's list... Sometimes, more cash and family are things that another city cannot compete with...I am good with that, and can understand. I have pride in the fact that, when a UFA does sign here, he RARELY goes anywhere else after, unless it is for one of those reason's, family or just looking to cash in. The ONLY reason Hossa isn't here for 12 years rather than Chicago is the fact that Holland chose Franzine and wasn't sure what Hudler was going to do re-sign or explore RFA, he chose Russia instead and Hossa had already gone due to cap space or lack there of...One mistake Holland will not admit to making. -
Although stat-wise and how much he meant to this club pretty much makes him deserve the #91 in the rafters, the fact(s) that he left twice (for all intents and purposes) will pretty much guarantee he won't get that honor...I am not even sure Ilitch will take the #91 out of circulation. Martin Frk does wear #91 and if he is all he is cracked up to be, that could be the guy to wear it...
-
No, I want them to trade for Yandle or Ryan. That is all we need. Ott would be nice if we weren't so loaded already in the bottom 6. But the only trade(s) I want to see is Yandle or Ryan...Haven't heard even a rumor ot Ryan, and barely one of Yandle...
-
as was mine to begin with, but I didn't want to start a thread about it and figured if there was a deal going on, he'd be a bottom 6 here anyway, so I put it here...oh well. Still don't know why he is in town, haven't heard a word otherwise about it...
