  1. The Wings now sit at 12th overall. Their final 2 games are against Jersey and Toronto, two teams that are in the playoffs and might not care too much about losing to the Wings. I don't see them climbing into the top 10 unless they move up in the lottery. It's time to move that pick for a player to help this team. If that is before the draft or at the draft, it's time. Moving one 1st round pick for an impact player will not hurt this franchise in the draft moving forward. You might even score a young talent that'll step right in, forget the vets. Acquire a younger forward that will help turn this franchise around, picking 12-15 this draft is not going to do that anytime soon. Buyout Tarasenko and Holl, trade Rasmussen and Berggren, throw the kitchen sink at Mitch Marner.$13M+ minimum! Get Ekblad here, even if it cost $8M+! Those are the only 2 UFA's I wanna throw money at. ( I am sure there are more out there that would help, but these two are tops on my list.)

Red Wings 2024-25 Season Catch All

I think just split up those two (Larkin and Raymond) teams know they are our best, if we can split them up, make things harder on other teams. Soderblom - Kasper - Raymond that could be a good one! On the top line: Debrincat - Larkin - Oh, I dunno, maybe Marner?
  4. I was thinking Berggren and their 4th back to them for just Howard. If they want a RHD, I'll give them Tuomisto. BTW Wings win 6-4 tonight vs. Dallas. I watched the 3rd period, where the hell was that team through March? Ugh!
  5. Speaking of Eiserman, man, how can we pry that kid out of Long Island? Do they have any bad contracts they want gone? Also, Jacob Truscott has signed with the Griffins. A 2 year deal. I expect a Dominic Shine type situation coming up when he proves he's ready for the NHL. He'll replace Chiarot sometime next season I predict. Also, keep an eye on Tampa prospect Isaac Howard, he is returning to MSU for his senior year and has yet to sign a deal with Tampa. They have until Aug 15, 2026 to get him inked or he'll become a UFA. I feel if they think that he won't sign in Tampa due to no room for him to play on the LW, he just may be traded. Time to make a good ol' boys trade between Brisebois and Yzerman? I mean, we did retain salary on Gourde in order for them to re-acquire him, maybe it's time to pay us back!
  6. I agree with a lot of this! One thing I am mad about is, when is it time to trade a 1st for a player that immediately makes your team better? How many 1st round picks do we need right now? Giving away one in a package, for, lets say a Byram, isn't going to kill our draft capital in the future. Like you said, we'll be picking outside the top 10 again, so yippee! I think if we could package with the 1st, Ras, Berg, maybe a 3rd and/or a prospect like Viro or Tuomisto, it'd be worth getting a player like Byram. I've been off the Rasmussen bandwagon for a long time, he does need to go. He is easily replaceable from within. He doesn't even use his body. Another failed Holland pick. I do give Yzerman credit for his drafting, his 1st round picks are top notch! But again, using one, just ONE, to upgrade your team immediately would not kill them. We need younger, NHL players, under 25, now. That being said, I wouldn't mind if Yzerman threw a bunch of cash at Ekblad, but heck, he's only 29. I actually wouldn't mind if he traded for Stamkos. 3 more years at $8M isn't really that bad considering the cap going up in each of the next three years. I know he has a NMC, but considering that he was inches from signing the same contract with Detroit before Nashville, he'd probably waive it to come here. Send them Rasmussen in a package.

    Lalonde FIRED. McLellan Hired!

TITLE CHANGE - 2025 UFA/RFA July 1! (plus summer trades)

Ekblad? Here's something I cooked up on puckpedia. Retain Kane at a discount, sign Marner and Ekblad. Still allowing room for Mazur, Shine and Wallinder as a 7th D. That's 10 players on the NHL roster now all 25 and under. Only 7 players are 30+. The other 5 are between 27-29. (bought out Tarasenko and Holl)

The problem is Larkin and Raymond have disappeared. Raymond has fallen under a PPG and Larkin has just slowed down.

I'd re-sign Kane if he wanted to come back, but ya, unless we could get a #1 LHD, I agree. Just promote a couple more prospects. I would buyout Tarasenko and Holl for sure.

I hope ASP comes right to Detroit (don't wanna go over in games though, can't burn one of those contract years) and Holl sits the rest of the season. May as well sit others too and bring up a couple more prospects.

2025 NHL Draft - June 27-28 ; To Tank or Not To Tank

Draft Day Blockbuster Trade the #2 OA and Rangers 3rd to Buffalo for the #4 OA and Byram, draft Porter Martone. -or- Same trade with Nashville for #4OA and Stamkos. IF we stayed similar here, I would entertain a trade back with Vancouver for their 1st and Boeser, then trade that 1st, Liam Dower Nilsson (rights) and Rangers 3rd to Buffalo for Byram and their 2nd, then draft Amico.

Red Wings 2024-25 Season Catch All

Rumor has it, ASP will be coming over to Detroit after the Swedish season ends. That is when Holl will be waived again. Of course we cannot have ASP play more than the allotted games so he doesn't burn a year of his ELC. I think 9 games?
  17. It's essentially a make-or-break situation for Detroit. This race is incredibly close and they have wasted 10 points in the last 5 games—games that were within their reach. Can Smith and Mrazek provide the necessary depth and experience? Or will they simply be press box warmers who indulge in hoagie snacks? I don't care if we lose in the first round; I want to make the playoffs. I am exhausted by lottery picks and the disappointment of missing the playoffs. Current Wild Card standing March 10, 2025
  18. Talk here about any movement that may happen, or things you'd like to see. I still maintain The Wings should be in on trying to acquire Cam Fowler. I also think they should be in on acquiring, if indeed Toronto is going to move him, Tim Liljegren.
  19. OFFICIAL 2025 TDL THREAD It's time to s*** or get off The Juck ******* Pott! In my view, the team ought to focus on acquiring players for the future. Notable examples include Dylan Cozens, Bowen Byram, Zac Jones, Morgan Frost and Ryan Lindgren. This approach should be pursued regardless of whether they are contending or not. It is essential to acquire young talent who will contribute to the team for many years to come. While draft picks hold value, Detroit requires immediate impact players in the NHL, rather than enduring yet another cycle of three to five years spent on development. It is imperative to utilize those draft picks for trades. *UPDATED* https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/vancouver-canucks-j-t-miller-will-remain-no-1-on-trade-targets-board-until-hes-traded notably not on the list is Elias Pettersson, who, on one podcast I watched, is basically 1B with Miller. (just to keep this epic quote alive!) (plus I bumped the original thread so we could relive the original text! Page 12)
  20. Senators vs. Red Wings Date: Monday, March 10 Time: 7:30 p.m. ET The legendary showdown unfolds as the Detroit Red Wings aim to break their five-game slide with a crucial victory over the Ottawa Senators. Ottawa stands at 32-25-5 overall and 7-8-1 against the Atlantic Division. The Senators command the ice, ranking seventh in league play with 246 total penalties, averaging 4.0 per game. Detroit, with a record of 7-9-1 against the Atlantic Division and 30-27-6 overall, faces their challenge. The Red Wings hold a 6-7-3 record in games where their opponents navigate fewer penalty minutes. The teams will clash on Monday for the third time this season, with the Red Wings having triumphed in the last encounter, winning 3-2 in a dramatic overtime finish. TOP PERFORMERS: In the spotlight, Tim Stutzle dazzles with 20 goals and 45 assists for the Senators, while Brady Tkachuk has netted six goals and provided two assists over the past 10 games. For the Red Wings, young star Lucas Raymond shines brightly with 22 goals and 43 assists. Meanwhile, Alex DeBrincat has scored six goals and tallied five assists in his last 10 outings. LAST 10 GAMES: Senators: 4-5-1, averaging three goals, 4.9 assists, 3.8 penalties, and 8.5 penalty minutes, while yielding 3.4 goals per game. Red Wings: 3-6-1, averaging 2.8 goals, 4.6 assists, 2.4 penalties, and 5.9 penalty minutes, while surrendering 3.8 goals per game. As the tension builds, who will emerge victorious in this battle on the ice? Critical game for playoffs! I certainly hope Mrazek is starting because we need to see what he can do. This is no time just to have him as a depth 3rd starter, put him in and see if he makes a difference. Smith better be playing as well. The projected lineup shows them not even dressing, I certainly hope this is not the case or else why even trade for them? It's not like they're on a 5 game win streak and they don't want to mess things up, put these guys in and lets see if they can help turn this around.

Wildcard Race, Detroit vs. Everybody (literally)

We wouldn't need to shed cap, they'd both fit under the current available, but we'd definitely have to make a spot available for one or both of them. Holl and Lagesson are good choices if Yzerman wants to see if either of those guys can play with the adults.

Wildcard Race, Detroit vs. Everybody (literally)

No, no, no, I am not saying you are wrong, I am saying that if they lose tonight and decide to pull the plug, they may as well have pulled the plug on Friday instead of waiting only 2 more games. It's too late to sell, so they really can't just bring up more kids to play instead of the vets because there are roster limits. They could totally afford to bring up a couple kids, but the roster is full and they'd have to waive players to make room. That is why we lost Fischer for free. I would be fine if we could still trade a player for at least a pick, but I don't want to lose anyone for free via waivers. We sit at 23/23 right now. Anybody left on our team right now, who would have to clear waivers, probably wouldn't...except for maybe Holl and Lagesson. I wouldn't mind giving Wallinder or Buium a shot if we waived one of those two back to GR.

Wildcard Race, Detroit vs. Everybody (literally)

Thing is, if this is the game to decide the season they should've sold all the vets Friday and let more of the kids play now. They already had a 4 game skid before the TDL, Washington would've been a tough game even if they were on a 4 game win streak. Mrazek is good depth and Smith is probably better and has more experience than Veleno. I'm hoping they just decide to "play ******* hockey" again and fight hard until it's over. There's 38 points available until the end of the season. Other than Ottawa, those other teams really didn't do much to be "in" for the playoffs. We have to hope that we can heat up again and Columbus and Montreal cool hit a snag like we're in. My thing is, you acquired players to see if they can help get you into the playoffs. They better play until we know if that answer is yes or no. If they're going to sit out, why acquire them at all? They aren't helping them from the stands. Yzerman obviously thought this could help, or he would've sold off players for only picks, and not depth, so they better damn play.

    The Holy Goalie Hoagie Hex

Well, Hmmmmm.... I guess Yzerman will not be satisfied until all his goalies are hexed! Welcome back Petr? Your hoagie awaits!

2025 Trade Deadline March 7 - Playoffs? Buy or Sell or Build?

Could you imagine the old Leftwinger on this day!? anyhow... Veleno hasn't been effective here, so it's not a significant loss, but the return we received was disappointing. It takes me back to when Holland made questionable moves, trading away too much for David Legwand, and then again for Erik Cole. I am not casting any negative light on Mrazek or Smith personally; they might turn out to be fine here, but it was indeed the defense that needed the most attention. This is an utter failure. Adding to the frustration is the return San Jose received for Walman; it felt like rubbing salt into an already open wound. That, I believe, is what troubles most fans the most. I would genuinely like to understand what Walman did to irritate Yzerman... Can we look towards the draft and perhaps hope for a trade to improve the defensive lineup? I still contend that there isn't anyone in our draft range who will surpass Byram. I don't think any fan would express dissatisfaction if Yzerman decided to trade the #13-ish pick as part of a package for him. Of course, that being said, we remain unaware of what the asking price was for players he may have initiated discussions about. In my opinion, Danielson, Kasper, ASP, and MBN are practically untouchable unless we’re talking about a significant upgrade in return. I even hesitate slightly regarding trading Wallinder or Buium. So I understand, prices were high; we observed that (except for the Marchand deal, which raises some eyebrows), so perhaps a few of these young players they were linked to were simply too costly to acquire. I am playing devil's advocate, but we just don’t have all the information. That being said, Yzerman has made some poor trades for quite some time now, which is peculiar since he used to outsmart the other GMs, or at least secure great deals. Every trade, including and leading up to the Debrincat deal, was favorable. Although, Dcat was clear that he would only re-sign in Detroit, which gave Yzerman the upper hand in that negotiation. Let’s hold on tight, hoping that Smith matches or exceeds Copp's production and significance, and for Pete's sake (pun intended), let’s wish that Mrazek comes in and performs as well or better than Talbot. It's difficult to assess his statistics given the struggles of that awful Hawks team. He was quite reliable in Carolina, with his save percentages for all three years exceeding 90%. His best season featured a save percentage of .923 and a GAA of 2.06. I hope we achieve success, but considering the way Florida, Tampa, Toronto, and Ottawa left us behind during the TDL, it’s going to be challenging. We face a tough battle against the Metro teams to secure that last wild card spot. I don’t believe we will surpass the four teams ahead of us in our division. However, we do have a fighting chance against the Jackets, Rangers, and Islanders. Moreover, we also have Montreal and Boston tied with us in points.
