Generally speaking, older players start slow and come on strong later, while young players start fast and fade off. I was referring to the list the league came out with before the season. There wasn't a single Red Wing on it. And I agree that it's still very early.

You're trying awfully hard to put a negative spin on the season. We have the 5th best goal differential in the East. (One of the best indicators of team performance). Special teams have been good. All this without a "Top 50" player in the league. Its not amazing or anything but I'm quite happy with what I've seen so far.

Kids + Goaltending + Daley + Positive atmosphere Many prominent players have commented how bad and low the dressing room got last year. It looks like they're actually having fun.

What a fun game to watch -
I could see how if you were just looking at numbers you might think that, but I couldn't disagree more. The average and top end talent is better and much less one dimensional. Everyone on the ice plays defence. The disparity between the players is less so statistically you don't see anyone run away from the pack very often.

Hopefully he develops into a stud for years to come, however he doesn't play anything like Corey Perry.

Why in Zeus's butthole was Kronwall on the ice in the last minute? -
How is Matthews compared to those guys? Curious as he's actually American yet plays for a Canadian franchise.
-
I think you're vastly underestimating how knowledgeable the average American viewer is now compared to the 80s. The fans that "refer to players by numbers" might make up about a tiny sliver of total viewership.

We don't have anyone that would generate that much interest. My guess is it's for Turris. First game back and heavily rumoured to be traded. -

Melnyk can go suck an egg. Big time douchecanoe. -
Agreed. It doesn't make any sense. The first game, I believe it was the Wings/Sabres game they chose instead. That was literally one of the worst games of professional hockey I've seen in a long time. Is it the other owners fighting for their slice of viewership? I have no idea. Just dumb.

Canadian bacon is the same as peameal/back bacon. It's cured and it's from the same cut as pork chops. No one calls it "Canadian bacon" here though. I think that's an American terminology. -

I think it speaks volumes to the blind hatred and revisionist history many seem to have regarding certain players. -
Centers can play wing. Wings can't play center. It's not rocket science. And no, being forced into a face off doesn't mean you're playing center.

Same book. "The retired agitator’s autobiography, entitled Offside: My Life Crossing the Line in Canada and Ice Capades: A Memoir of Fast Living and Tough Hockey in the United States, comes out on Oct. 24" I have no idea why he would give it 2 different names. I'm guessing the Canadian one is the original but didn't test well in the US without hockey and/or ice in the name.

That would make his impact on the success of the team mediocre. Not him. No it's not the same thing. -

Come on Lefty, you've got to admit you always pick a couple favourites and go a little over the top every year. Makes for good conversation nonetheless. Lots of intriguing prospects this next draft. With the amount of picks we're bound to have, it will be hugely important for the organization. -

I guess that's all great as long as you're a well-off privileged white male. I was more referring to the national average. -

In Seattle maybe. I suggest you start watching the national news. Nowhere in Canada is weed legal...yet. -

To be fair, if we had to deal with the "stuff" you guys do in the states, Im sure we'd need cheaper and more readily accessable booze. -
So what would you do with Ericsson? Pay someone future assets to take him? We can't afford to bury and replace him. It's not that simple. Not to mention we don't have anyone who can replace Ericsson's shut down role. He's not a scrub, he's just overpaid.
