There's no way Babcock is interested in the Leafs job. If Maurice, Wilson, and Carlyle couldn't win in Toronto, no one can, until they get serious about winning. The Leafs need a complete overhaul from top to bottom. It's a 10 year project assuming everything goes right. First they'd need to get rid of the core they've put together, which will take 3-4 years. Then they'd need to bottom out for 3 years and draft well. 3 more years will be needed to have their draft picks play together and learn how to win. That Kessel trade put the organization back 10 years, I said it when it happened. I still don't understand how Burke, with Seguin and Hall available in the upcoming draft, decided to trade two #1 draft picks and a 2nd for Kessel, instead of bottoming out and trying for one of those top prospects. One bad year, and you'd have your franchise player. Each year that trade looks worse and worse. Seguin, 22, is leading the league in goals and second in points, and Hamilton, 21, could become one of the top 10 Defenseman in the League. And yet, Leafs fans still pay the most expensive prices in the League to watch that garbage.

There's no doubt Detroit is #1. I was at Price's first start in Detroit in mid August, there was 43,000 people at the Tigers game on a Saturday night, largest crowd since opening day, it doesn't get any better than that. I compare that to a Blue Jays game (I live outside Toronto) I was watching in mid-June. A Friday night they were lucky if they had 20,000. I was thinking, "Get to the ball park you idiots!"

Right, there was a lot of people upset when Cleary was signed. I didn't see how a 1 year $1.5 Million deal for a guy who's done a lot for the organization was a bad move. It's better for Cleary to be a healthy scratch then a young player who can get playing time in Grand Rapids. It allows Cleary to leave the game with his head held high, instead of being kicked to the curb. Also it shows the Red Wings are a classy organization.

The thing with a cap, there isn't a dominating team. Every team has holes with talent spread out. On paper, we're probably not a major contender, but we're consistently outshooting the opposition, and Howard's playing well.

I don't think the players should have to salute the fans. It's a nice thing to do, but as a fan I really don't care. If I was a Maple Leafs player, I wouldn't want to salute the Leaf fans either. However, if I was a player, I wouldn't want to play in Toronto. The fans and media never give you a minute to yourself. I live in the Toronto area, everyday the major media outlets need multiple Leaf stories, even if it's the middle of summer.

You can cheer on Jarnkrok 8 Games, 0 Points, 11 SOG

All the more reason to stay away from UFA's.
-
As already mentioned, with Smith and Nyquist up for new contracts, I'm not sure how we can fit Myers under the cap. Unless we can get rid of Kindl and Weiss's contracts, we've don't have room.
-
My only complaint so far is that Tatar should get more ice time. Other than that, I like the decisions Babs had made. I think sitting Weiss has been the right move too.
-
I guess I was in the huge minority this offseason thinking we had a very good hockey team. Holland, stayed away from overpaying for UFA's, and built a team with a lot of depth. I'm not surprised we're 4-1-2.

I agree, I usually eat before I leave, then use the bathroom at Cobo before and after the game. I think out of all times I've been to the Joe, I've used the bathroom there twice. Other then going down to ice level for warmups, I stay in my seat the entire game. I will miss the place, great memories, and there will never be as good of a view from the 2nd level ever again, but it's time.

I was wondering if the reason Franzen left was so he'd be ready to go for tomorrow. Ah, we'll win tomorrow too...

Thanks T.Low

I had to watch the Leafs broadcast, any word on the Franzen injury? The Leafs announcers just mentioned he left, then talked about the Leafs some more.

That, or UFA's are a complete waste of money. It's better to build through the draft.

Toronto Radio: Illitch is selling everything and Babs will be Leafs GM
Barrie replied to Wings_Dynasty's topic in General
Living in the Toronto area, this is why I stopped listening to Toronto sports radio. After 50 years of failure, I don't understand how they can think the Maple Leafs are an organization anyone wants to go to... I get my sports talk now from AM550 and AM1520 from Buffalo, and the Dan Patrick Show online. -
I think Kronwall being stronger on his skates isn't the issue, any other time in the game Getzlaf gets called for hooking. It's typical NHL reffing inconsistency late in the 3rd period. One thing that drives me crazy about hockey is how much the officiating effects the outcome of the game. It's not like that in Baseball and Football. I wish it was something the NHL would address. The players should have the biggest effect on the outcome of a game, instead of the refs.

Right, who cares what we get back for Kindl and Weiss, just getting the cap space to re-sign our players in the main thing.
-
Ouellet will be here once Kindl is traded.

Enforcers are a waste. The game right now is based so much on speed that it doesn't make sense to have an enforcer who only plays 4 minutes a game. Team now have 4 lines that they just put out there one after the other. The league needs to step up to keep the players safe, like the NFL does. I was watching an OHL game last year, and I was very impressed with the "Hit to the Head" penalties. Banning hits to the head didn't take anything away from the game. The NHL needs to do something like this too.
-
No surprise, Kindl's gotta go to free up cap space to sign Nyquist and Smith in the off season.
-
I was 19 that summer. Yes, but we traded Jarnkrok, all the depth is gone.

Datsyuk to play Thursday? Weiss to be a healthy scratch?
Barrie replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Well, then Holland will probably have to trade Jurco. There won't be cap room for him after Nyquist and Smith sign. -

I could see Weiss being traded. It'll free up cap space to re-sign Helm and Abby in 2 years. If Weiss gets traded, we can keep Jurco. With Nyquist and Smith as RFA's, I don't see how there's enough cap space to sign Jurco. -
I've been thinking for a while, because of the cap, Holland is going to have to trade Kindl and Jurco. Nyquist and Smith are RFA's after this season. Base on what Tatar and DeKeyser got, we need $5 Million cap space to sign them.
